Legendary Item Diablo 4
Ancestral Legendary Item

Diablo 4 legendary items are at the top tier of the itemisation system. As item quality increases, an item’s affixes improves allowing players to dip into areas of their skills that they may not have focused on in their skill tree. This enables players to create more diverse character builds.

Legendary Items and Legendary Aspects (the orange bit of text) are intrinsically tied together.

Diablo 4 Item Tiers

The tiers of items progress as follows.

  • Normal: 1 modifier
  • Magic: 1 random modifier
  • Rare: 2 extra random modifiers
  • Unique: 4 affixes and 1 Unique modifier
  • Legendary: 3 random modifiers and 1 Legendary modifier (aspect).

Legendary Items come in different Item Powers and the higher the level the greater the stats:

  • Sacred - Item Power 625 - 750 - Drops in World Tier 3
  • Ancestral - Item power 780 - 925 - Drops in World Tier 4

Legendary items that drop from monsters level 95+ will always have an item power of 925.

Legendary Aspects

For the most part, Legendary items are tied to a class but many function well for all classes. They are primarily sought after by their Aspect (the orange text) and this part of the item can be extracted and stored in your Codex of Power.

Simply visit the Blacksmith and salvage the legendary item, the item will disappear but the Aspect portion will be stored in the Codex where you can access it for evermore and imprint it (at the Occultist) onto any other Legendary item (replacing its existing Aspect) or onto a Rare making it Legendary in the process.

How to find Legendary Items

Whilst you can't target-farm bosses for specific Legendary items you can target-farm some Legendary Aspects to add to your Codex of Power but rather than monsters being the source it's simply a reward for clearing particular dungeons.

On completing the dungeon the rewarded Aspect will be automatically added to your Codex where you can upgrade it (via the Blacksmith as you find better versions of that Aspect on Legendary Items later on. Not all Legendary Aspects can be gained as dungeon rewards but there are enough available to get you started.

The menu below links to all Legendary Aspects available and if it can be rewarded the specific dungeon to do that is noted.

What else can I do with Legendary Items

  • You can salvage Legendary items you do not want at the Blacksmith and the materials will be stored to use later in different crafting recipes. The Aspect will also be removed and placed in your Codex of Power and if it is an upgrade to one you already have in there it will simply upgrade it.
  • You can trade Legendary items with other players unless you have crafted them in any way such as with Masterworking, Enchanting or Tempering, at which point they become 'Account Bound'.
