The Spiritborn is the new class that will be added in the expansion for Diablo 4, Vessel of Hatred to be released on 8th October 2024. [1]
Spiritborn are native to the jungles of Nahantu, where Vessel of Hatred takes place, and they are deeply rooted in the elements of nature and the spiritual realm. They are the children of the wild, born from the spirit of the plains, sky, soil, and forest. Their souls are intertwined with the world around them, drawing strength from the very essence of life and nature.
They are connected to four Spirit Guardians: Rezoka (Jaguar), Balazan (Centipede), Kwatli (Eagle), and Wumba (Gorilla), each representing different aspects like courage, balance, awareness, and protection.
Spiritborn are versatile warriors who fuse three-hit-combo attacks and acrobatic fluidity. They are masters of hand-to-hand combat and extend their wrath with the aid of spirit energy and their favored demon-slaying implement, the glaive. They are adept at blocking and dodging incoming strikes, absorbing this power for themselves or redirecting it back at their aggressors.

Spiritborn Specialization - Spirit Hall
Once you’ve reached Level 15 as a Spiritborn, seek out Tarka, a Spiritborn emissary in Gea Kul. Together, you’ll embark on a quest for your destiny, becoming more attuned to the ways of the Spirit Guardians. Completing the Sacred Hunt quest unlocks the Spirit Hall, the Spiritborn’s Class Mechanic.
Using the Spirit Hall, Spiritborn can enhance their connection to the Spirit Guardians. Select one of the 4 Guardian Spirits as your Primary Spirit. Doing so will grant you a special passive bonus, but it also adds that Spirit’s Skill Tag to all your Skills, allowing its Spirit-based bonuses to carry to each of your Skills.
At Level 30, you can choose a secondary bonus, from the same Guardian or a different one. This will either strengthen your existing bond or intertwine it with the mechanics from another Guardian. Giving you the freedom to mold your Spiritborn in the direction that most appeals to you. The 4 Spirit Guardians to choose from are:
Guardian | Primary Spirit Bonus | Secondary Spirit Bonus | |
---|---|---|---|
Centipede | Hitting an enemy with a Centipede Skill reduces their Damage by 2.5% and Slows (CC) them by 10% for 3 seconds, stacking up to a maximum of 8 times. | Heal for 1% of your Maximum Life, for every Nearby enemy you've Poisoned in the last 3 seconds, up to 5%. | |
Eagle | Casting an Eagle Skill grants 2 Storm Feathers, up to a maximum of 8. When you Evade, all Storm Feathers are fired dealing 100% Lightning damage and making targets Vulnerable for 3 seconds. | For every 4 meters you move, your Critical Strike Chance increases by 4%[+]. This bonus is reset 2 seconds after you Critically Strike. | |
Gorilla | Casting a Gorilla Skill deals 100% Thorns to enemies you hit and grants a Barrier for 10% of Maximum Life, up to 40%, for 3 seconds. | Maximum Resolve increased by 2.
When you have at least 5 stacks of Resolve, you are Unstoppable. | |
Jaguar | Every 4th time you deal direct damage to an enemy with a Jaguar Skill, unleash additional slashes dealing 100% of the damage of the 4 hits. | Maximum Ferocity is increased by 1.
Gain 1 stack of Ferocity whenever you kill an enemy or damage a Boss. |
So, as an example, say you pick:
- Primary Spirit = Gorilla (his primary bonus. all your Skills are now also Gorilla Skills)
- Secondary Spirit = Jaguar (his secondary bonus)
All the skills you use will be infused with the bonuses from both of those Guardians. Your Primary and Secondary Spirit choice can be from the same Guardian. This allows for greater flexibility in build choice.

- Quarterstaff - Inherent affix is X% Blocked Damage Reduction and X% Block Chance.
What is the Spirit Realm
The Spirit Realm is a mysterious place where spirits dwell.
When Inarius and Lilith created Sanctuary and altered the Worldstone, their combined powers released a veil of magical energy, giving birth to the Spirit Realm. This sacred plane, shaped by human beliefs, acts as a ghostly mirror to Sanctuary. Within this realm, spirits find purposes beyond mortal life, protected by Ancient Spirit Guardians who shield them from angelic and demonic influences.
The Spirit Realm is home to a diverse array of spirits: certain human spirits inexplicably drawn to the Realm, spirits of animals, insects, and plants that evolve over time, and Spirit Guardians that grow immense from concentrated magical energy.
Who were Akarat and Ysevete
Akarat, originating from Xiansai with deep ties to Nahantu through his mother, was a prophet who preached about the inner conflict between the angelic and demonic sides of humanity. He believed in the uniqueness of human existence and that people held a special light within them capable of overcoming darkness. Traveling across Sanctuary, he spread these core beliefs.
Determined to return to his mother's homeland, Akarat eventually discovered a hidden veil between the Spirit Realm and Sanctuary, untouched by angelic or demonic influences. Recognizing the need to protect this place, Akarat, along with his loyal acolyte Ysevete, spent countless nights uncovering the secrets of the Spirit Realm. This relentless dedication led Akarat to become the first living being to cross into this enigmatic realm.
During Akarat's absence, his acolytes kept his research alive, continuing to study the jungle. Upon his return, Akarat immersed himself in exploring the uncharted territories of the Spirit Realm. When it was time for his final crossing, his devoted followers, including Ysevete, were by his side. Ysevete's cries of sorrow resonated through the Realm and were met with the spirits' support. Hailing from Nahantu, Ysevete later founded the Spiritborn culture, which endures today, based on the principles she and Akarat established.
Who are the Spiritborn
Inspired by Akarat and Ysevete, the Spiritborn dedicate themselves to protecting the Spirit Realm and its spirits, striving to maintain harmony between Sanctuary and the Spirit Realm. This mission is integral to their existence. They prepare for their souls to pass into the Spirit Realm upon death, seeing this transition as the ultimate fulfillment of their purpose.
While alive, Spiritborn elders who have mastered all aspects of their skills may undertake the perilous journey to the Spirit Realm. Those less experienced can still connect with the realm through visions, dreams, and intuitions that offer glimpses beyond the veil.
Loyal and steadfast, the Spiritborn cherish their rich traditions, respect the jungle, and honor the powerful Spirit Guardians in all they do.
