Item Level Breakpoints

From Diablo 4 Wiki

In Diablo 4, there are Item Level Breakpoints (shown as Item Power) that players need to be aware of when looking to upgrade items

What are the Item Level Breakpoints?

Below is a list of the item levels at which players will see improved boosts to item stats when upgrading items at the Blacksmith or Jeweler for jewelry.

  • Level 0: 1 – 149
  • Level 1: 150 – 339
  • Level 2: 340 – 459
  • Level 3: 460 – 624
  • Level 4: 625 – 750 (Sacred)
  • Level 5: 780 - 925 (Ancestral)

Each level comes with its own range of statistics so if you can push it up a level you'll get a bigger boost than if your upgrade keeps you within the existing level range.

How do Item Level Breakpoints Work?

When players go to a Blacksmith or Jeweler and use the upgrade system they need to be mindful of the level of the item before upgrading and whether it's worth making the upgrade to truly benefit from a real boost in item stats. Simply put, players should be looking to push the item into the next higher tier of item with the upgrade.

In the example below, the item has been upgraded 4 times which has pushed the item from a Level 3 into the Level 4 category giving it an Item Power of 626. You can see the increments are quite small until it moves from Item Level 3 to 4.

Each time the Blacksmith upgrades an item they add 5 levels.

Item Level Breakpoints

A word of caution. When upgrading an item so it moves from one Level to another be mindful that it will reroll the statistics. The item below was upgraded 5 times adding 20 points to its Item Power so now at 625 Item Power it's a Level 4 item so all the stats rerolled and unfortunately the Cooldown rerolled at the bottom of the range.
