Varshan is a member of the Boss Ladder and classed as an Initiate Lair Boss, an Uber Unique who can be farmed for Unique items as part of the endgame content in the Malignant Burrow. He was added in Season 1: Season of the Malignant.
Following the release of the Patch 1.2.0, Varshan was added to the Boss Ladder on both the Seasonal and Eternal realms. Varshan is available in World Tier 3 and World Tier 4.
He is best tackled at Level 75+ if doing World Tier 4.
How to Summon Uber / Torment Varshan
Originally player's needed materials to summon Varshan but this is no longer the case.
Players now require Lair Keys to open Varshan's Hoard which is revealed once Varshan is defeated.
The Lair Keys that apply here are 12 x Malignant Hearts for the initiate version of Varshan who will occasionally drop Stygian Stones which can be used to create Lair Keys for the Greater Lair Boss hoards.
Note, Belial may appear during the fight and he will drop Betrayer's Husk which is required to open Belial's Hoard.
Defeating your first Tormented Boss drops one Resplendent Spark as a first-time reward (account bound).
Where to summon Varshan?
Varshan is summoned within the Malignant Burrow (Map) next to the Tree of Whispers. Inside the Burrow, you'll see an alter which is where you deposit the body parts to perform the ritual. If you die during the fight you can reenter his arena without using more body parts.
Defeating Varshan
Be sure to get your Shadow resistance up to a minimum of 50%.
Varshan has three main forms of attack.
- Tentacles applying physical and Shadow damage and a spray of putrid Shadow damage projectiles.
- One of the attacks consists of three tentacles whipping you across the head and applying physical damage and it can render you "Afflicted by Corrupted".
- The other is when you are at range. He will extend a tentacle towards you and hoist himself quickly to you, slapping you with the other two tentacles, again applying physical and Shadow damage.
- Stand behind him to avoid his tentacles.
- Summons 3 Elites minions every 50 - 60 seconds that he channels to drain their abilities which, if he completes the channelling, he will offload on you.
- Whilst he is channelling them he's not attacking you so you could use this opportunity to damage him before destroying the minion.
- Area of Effect attack that radiates outwards in patterns on the ground. You have about 2 seconds to get off the patterns before they explode and apply massive Shadow and Physical damage.
- There are spaces on the ground that you can dodge.
Varshan has a barrier that he will erect periodically.
Important Drops
As well as Uniques (see loot table below), Varshan can drop the Mucus-Slick Egg which is required to summon the other endgame boss Duriel in the Gaping Crevasse and you will farm him for the Uber Uniques drops.

Specific Unique items can be dropped by Varshan which means he's an ideal candidate to farm and those items are detailed in the tables below. It is not guaranteed he will drop a unique item.

Like the General unique pool, these super Mythic Uniques can drop from any boss but are much harder to come by. Belial does have an increased change of dropping one of these but the fight will be tougher.

Changes to Varshan
Patch 1.5.0, August 6, 2024
- Summoning Varshan now only requires Malignant Hearts. Trembling Hands, Blackened Femurs, and Gurgling heads have been removed from the game. *Eternal Characters that have the other body parts can convert them to hearts at the Alchemist.

- All Tormented bosses have had their health reduced by 30%. This includes Blood Boils from Tormented Echo of Lilith.
