Diablo 4 Season 8: Season of Bosses - 29 April 2025. Season 8 was revealed during the 6 March 2025 developer chat and includes a PTR.
Season 8 focuses on the game's Bosses, Boss Powers and new Boss additions. Belial is the main antagonist setting the theme of this Season.
New Bosses
New bosses are being added to the Boss Ladder. These include.
- Belial - The new hardest challenge on the Boss Ladder (Available to all players and will be the boss to beat).
- Urvar from Vessel of Hatred will be a boss but on the lower tier of the boss ladder (Difficulty similar to Beast in the Ice).
- The Harbinger of Hatred from VoH has also been added to the boss ladder. (Difficulty similar to Duriel and Andariel)
These new bosses will utilise the same loot pools as existing bosses within their respective tier.
Vessel of Hatred specific bonuses such as Runes and Tributes are available as rewards.
Note that Belial, comes in different forms and will appear in other forms during the Season.
Belial Ambush
If players defeat any of the bosses, there is a small chance that Belial will spawn at the end of the boss fight giving players the opportunity to double their loot.
Belial Supreme Form
To access the Supreme form of Belial, players will need to defeat Belial in an ambush. This is the only way to acquire the Lair Key required to fight his Supreme form.
Supreme Form Rewards
Unlike other bosses, when Belial is defeated, they can access his Hoard of loot. Once accessed, players can mimic the rewards from any other Boss.
Ancestral uniques and Infernal Compasses will also be dropped.
Aparition Incursions
The main open world events are called Aparition Incursions. These are fast-paced, Boss-rush-style events. Players must take down up to two Aparition Bosses from a pool of ten that can potentially appear. At the end of the Battle, Belial appears and only once he is defeated does the event conclude.
Boss Powers
There are a total of 24 Boss Powers to collect in Season 8. These are acquired from a first-time kill of a targeted Boss. Simply find an Apatition Incursion, kill the Boss and the Boss Powers menu will unlock.

Main and Modifier Boss Powers
Each Boss Power has a main power and a modifier power. Each power's tooltip details what the power does when selected as the main power and what it does when selected as a modifier.
Only one Boss Power can be selected as a main power and the remaining three slots in the UI will use the modifier of the others slotted into the UI.
These Boss powers will get more powerful as you level and also scale with your Paragon level, so as you become more powerful, so does the Boss Power.

Boss Changes
Boss Tiers
Note: all the following changes are permanent once Season 8 concludes:
What was known as the Ladder Bosses have been changed to tiers as follows:
- Initiate Lair Bosses: Beast in the Ice, Grigoire, Lord Zir, Varshan, and Urivar (available for Vessel of Hatred owners only).
- Greater Lair Bosses: Andariel, Duriel, and Harbringer of Hatred (available for Vessel of Hatred owners only).
- Exalted Lair Bosses: Belial, Lord of Lies.
To fight any Lair Boss, players must be in Torment Level 1 or higher.
Acquiring Loot Changes
- Lair Bosses no longer require boss materials to summon and provide a vastly reduced reward upon death. Instead, when a Lair boss dies, a chest called a Hoard will spawn containing its loot. Each player must individually spend boss materials to open their Hoard.
- The first Unique item dropped by a Lair Boss will be from their unique pool. Further Unique Items will have a 50% chance to be from the general Unique pool.
- When playing in a party, Lair Bosses have a 33% chance per additional party member to drop an extra Unique Item from their unique pool.
- Lair Bosses now drop 5 Unique Items in Torment IV, instead of 6.
Lair Boss Keys
Materials are no longer used to summon, but the phrase "keys" is now being used for the single material required to open the Boss Hoard rewards chests at the end of the battle.
- Each boss requires a Lair Boss Key to unlock their Hoard. This is one specific item for each boss, such as: Malignant Heart (Varshan), Living Steel (Grigoire), Distilled Fear (Beast in the Ice), Exquisite Blood (Lord Zir), Judicator’s Mask (Urivar), Shard of Agony (Duriel), Pin-Cushioned Doll (Andariel), Hatred Hearts (Harbringer of Hatred, Betrayer’s Husk (Belial, Lord of Lies).
- All Initiate Lair Bosses have the chance to drop a Stygian Stone, which can be converted into any Greater Lair Boss Key of your choice.
- Lair Boss Keys can stack up to 99.
Map and Tooltip Changes
- A new icon has been added to the Boss Lairs on the map and tooltips for each Lair.
- You can now teleport directly to a Boss Lair
- Each Boss Lair description on the map lists the required Hoard Key and if you currently own a sufficient amount.
