The latest departure from Blizzard is 20-year veteran Michael Chu. While he may be more recently known for his writing skill on the Overwatch franchise, he also worked on Diablo 2 and Diablo 3.
Between 2000 and 2002, Michael worked as a QA Analyst as well as a game tester in Diablo 2: Lord of Destruction. He eventually left Blizzard for a while to take up a position at Obsidian working on Knights of the Old Republic 2. Michael returned to Blizard two years later and worked on WoW and the Burning Crusade expansion.
Michael then moved on to Diablo as a part of the design team, specifically as a quest designer and also worked on the Monk and Witch Doctor. His writing skills were then called upon for the Overwatch team.
Twenty Years
Michael updated his personal blog with the news. Here’s a snip:
When I first walked through the doors of Blizzard Entertainment twenty years ago, my only dream was to help make the games I had spent countless hours of my life playing. From the battles between the races of Azeroth in Warcraft to the corruption of humanity as pawns of the Eternal Conflict in Diablo, I was lucky enough to tell stories in these amazing universes and help bring them to life. And I have had the great fortune to get to know and interact with the passionate global community that played our games.
Blizzard issued the following statement addressing his departure from the company.
We wish Michael the best of luck as he moves on from Blizzard.
