Blacksmith

From Diablo 4 Wiki and Guides - Season 11
Revision as of 16:10, 9 May 2024 by Elly (talk | contribs)

The Blacksmith is an NPC entirely focused on item customisation and improvement. From breaking down old gear for crafting materials and Legendary Aspects to repairing items, adding affixes and upgrading existing affixes to boost your item's powers. They are probably the busiest NPC in town.

You won't get access to the Blacksmith until you reach level 10 at which point you'll receive a priority quest from the Blacksmith, Zivek in Kyovashad (Map) and after completing it you'll have access to all their services.

Repair and Durability
Repair Loss of Durability

Repairing

Items have a durability maximum of 100 but this is reduced by 10% every time you die and resurrect yourself. If someone else ressurects you items don't lose durability.

If an item reaches zero durability all the benefits the item provides will stop. You can still use the item in the case of weapons but any stats it has are ignored. Visit the Blacksmith to repair it. They can repair individual items or everything you have equipped in exchange for Gold. Jewelry never needs repairing.

Salvaging

Mark Item as Junk

Items you don't want to keep or sell can be salvaged for free by the Blacksmith and broken down into useful crafting materials which are stored virtually in the 'Stats & Materials' tab of your Character Profile. All gear types and tiers can be salvaged at the Blacksmith.

The better the item grade, the better the salvaged materials.

All Common, Magic and Rare items can be salvaged in one go but Legendary and Unique items have to be salvaged one at a time with confirmation however you can speed this process up by mousing over each item you wish to salvage and marking them as 'Junk'. Do this anywhere, better still, do it as you pick up the loot and review when you're playing then it's one-click salvage when you next visit the Blacksmith.

When you salvage Legendary items, you'll upgrade the Legendary Aspects in your Codex of Power if the new Aspect is higher level than the one you already have.

When you salvage any item it has the possibility of updating available looks in your Wardrobe which allows you to tailor your look regardless of what you have equipped.

The following Crafting Materials are salvaged from items from the Blacksmith.

Rogue Tempering Manual

Tempering

Tempering enables you to add up to 2 Affixes to Legendary and Rare items.

Manuals with a set of 4 or 5 Affix themed 'recipes' can be found throughout the world and once learned these will be stored in the Codex of Power in 1 of 6 categories so you can browse them at any point.

To Temper visit the Blacksmith to select which Manual has the Affix you want on the item and they will apply a random affix from that Manual.

1 Affix can be added to Sacred items and 2 to Ancestral. If adding 2 they must be from different manuals. Once your initial Affixes have been applied you can reroll Tempers another 5 times per item and once done that is it, the Tempers are set in stone. The item can not be reset like it can in Masterworking.

You can't Enchant a Tempered affix into another affix at the Occultist but they can be Masterworked boosting their stats even further.

Tempering never fails but it will bind the item to your account.

Masterworking a Legendary Ring

Masterworking

Masterworking is an endgame service enabling you to increase all the affixes on your Legendary and Unique items up to 12 times. This includes any affixes you have added via Tempering or Enchanting and any Greater Affixes too.

From materials gathered in The Pit (Level 100+ multi-level dungeon), you can visit the Blacksmith who will upgrade affixes each time by 5% however, upgrade numbers 4, 8 and 12 will give just a single affix a massive 25% boost. These three boosts could potentially land on the same affix. The stat will be colored as follows:

  • 1 x 25% Boost = Blue
  • 2 x 25% Boosts = Yellow
  • 3 x 25% Boosts = Orange

Masterworking doesn't fail and can be reset at any point, removing all Masterworking, to begin again but the materials aren't refunded.

As with any alterations to items Masterwoking renders the item account bound even if you reset but you can still sell or Salvage.
