Miscellaneous Diablo-related stuffs of recent vintage.
- RPGamer has a short article about the [wiki]Book of Cain[/wiki], as seen on the show floor at Blizzcon 2011. The words won’t tell you much you didn’t already know, but there are six HQ photos of prototypes of the book, which give a nice sense of holding the actual product in your hands. (See the Diablowiki article on this piece of merch for many more pictures, sample pages, and general info.)
- For $.99 you can buy an animated Diablo III logo wallpaper for your Android phone. At least until the Blizzard lawyers catch wind of it. (For free you can get any of the 39 smartphone D3 backgrounds HolyKnight created last year.)
- There’s much discussion of this self-proclaimed marketing expert’s post in which he asserts that Diablo III will be released on January 17th, or 24th, since that timing would cut the legs out from under SW:ToR account renewals. He also says the delay to 2012 delay was to avoid this month’s jam-packed game release schedule. I suppose this is possible; it’s long been noted that Blizzard times their WoW patches to appear just before rival RPG and MMO releases, but as many major rebalances and changes as we’ve seen since the beta began, it seems pretty clear that D3 was nowhere near ready for release this month. I wouldn’t bet on January either, for that matter.
- G4TV posted a very short interview with D3 Art Director [wiki]Christian Lichtner[/wiki], from Blizzcon 2011. It’s typically overproduced, with maybe one minute of actual interview content chop-edited to fill 2:16 of run time.
In an interview in the latest edition of GameInformer [wiki]Jay Wilson[/wiki] fields more questions on the console version of Diablo 3. A small snippet reads
[blue]”People don’t believe us when we say we’re going to make a console game. I understand why they don’t believe us, because we’ve tried this before. We’ve also never invested in it to the degree that we’re doing now, and we’ve never had a product that we felt was appropriate for it.”[/blue]
With the massive console community well on board with the idea of Diablo 3 on console and Blizzard’s steely determination to explore it thoroughly it seems it’s less a case of ‘if’ they’ll announce and more of ‘when’. The rest of the console portion of the interview can be found on Computerandvideogames. Thanks to Donny for sending that over.
