Blizzard teases us on this momentous milestone. New Diablo 2 content? Now that would be simply outstanding.

Diablo 2 celebrates 25 years and Blizzard hints at new content
Diablo 2 Launch event

It’s been 25 years since Diablo 2 was released, which is hard to believe. We’ve been covering the franchise for 28 years now, and time has flown by. It was five years ago that I wrote a retrospective on the Diablo 2 launch event. Where has time gone?

D2 is without a doubt one of the greatest games ever released, and while gaming has moved on somewhat in the past two decades, it still holds up. The launch of Resurrected was fantastic. Blizzard finally listened and created something we all thought could not be done (even the original devs thought it would be too difficult).

Diablo 2 Tease

While it’s fantastic we’ve got to this milestone with the classic, Blizzard is hinting at something D2 related, and we don’t know what. In their celebratory anniversary post, they state. “If you think you’ve seen and done it all, just wait for the chaos we’ve yet to unleash.” We’ve seen and done it all, so that means something new, right?

That’s quite a bombshell to drop over the weekend. I’ve been moaning about Blizzard not adding any new content every time a new Diablo 2 Resurrected Season starts, and it sounds like we may get something new.

New loot, ladders, modding, hell, a new Act would be amazing. There’s still a lot to consider, and I sincerely hope we get something substantial. The game deserves it, and dare I say it, so do the fans who have stuck by it all these years. Our Diablo 2 forums are a testament to that.

Whatever it is, I think we can all agree that Diablo 2 Resurrected could benefit from a few updates. People want to keep playing it as it serves a very different Diablo audience when you compare it to Diablo 4. The PD2 team has been smashing it with their updates, proving that enhancing and keeping the game updated is a worthwhile exercise.

Finally, happy anniversary Diablo 2!

A reminder that if you are heading back to the game at any point, check our D2 section is packed with content spanning 25 years.

That would be huge.
While I understand some people would prefer to keep the game at a “basic remaster” level, I believe it has the potential of expanding into something more.

What I’d like to see?
> Dungeon-like content that can be enjoyed while playing solo. Some random dungeons to break the monotonny of running campaign content over and over again.
> Some setting that would allow people enjoying Diablo in Single Player, to find the equipment they’re looking for. Currently the single player meta is mindless grinding, and online trading is filled with bots.
> A little balancing of skills, sets and runewords to make more sense as endgame options. Nothing as game breaking as Mosaic, but definitely something as meaningful as it.
