As we all know Vicarious Visions were the brains behind Diablo 2 Resurrected and it’s been announced they are to drop their Vicarious Visions name and become Blizzard. This follows the merger that took place in January.
According to Polygon, staff were informed on Wednesday at a town hall meeting that the Vicarious Visions name would be dropped and the studio would become a Blizzard studio. It’s thought that they could take the name Blizzard Albany. VV is based in Albany, New York.
Staff were under the impression that the name would be retained but were not surprised by the announcement. An employee told Polygon added:
“For all of the leadership’s talk about being more transparent in response to the lawsuit and resulting fiasco, the fact they decided to blindside us all with this feels about as far from transparent as you can get,”
Vicarious Visions have worked on some of the more notable ports over the years including the PC port of Destiny 2 and the Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 and 2 remasters prior to Diablo 2 Resurrected. According to news coming out of the studio, there will be no layoffs.
