Varyana

Varyana is a melee Mercenary who thrives in the thick of combat. A former cannibal who abandoned her tribe when they began consorting with darker forces, she rebuilt her life as a butcher, and later as a Mercenary for hire. Varyana fights with brutal efficiency, feeding off the pace of battle and growing stronger the longer the blood flows.

She becomes available once you complete her acquisition quest, Slayer’s Reputation, which appears the first time you visit the Den during the Thrust into the Dark quest.

What Varyana Does Well

Varyana is built for aggressive melee engagements. Her kit revolves around maintaining momentum and powering up through sustained fighting.

Her strengths include:

• Keeping close to enemies and cutting through packs with sweeping melee strikes.
• Gaining strength from continuous kills via her Massacre mechanic.
• Pulling enemies in with certain skill choices, grouping them tightly for fast dispatch.
• Applying utility bonuses, depending on your chosen branch of her skill tree.

Once she builds pace, Varyana can feel relentless so is ideal for players who enjoy a fast, forward-moving rhythm. She's less defensive than Raheir and more direct than Subo. Her value comes from driving fights forward, not holding them in place.

Unlocking Varyana

• Complete the quest Slayer’s Reputation in the Den in Nahantu (Map).
• This quest becomes available when you first arrive during Thrust into the Dark.
• After completing it you can hire her as a Primary Mercenary or set her as a Reinforcement.

As with all Mercenaries, once hired she becomes available account-wide on that realm.

Varyana’s Skills

Varyana's skill tree is built around speed, aggression, and the growth of her Massacre meter. Her abilities fall into three broad themes:

Berserker Momentum

• Skills that reward continuous fighting and rapid kills.
• Increased damage scaling tied to her killstreak.

Group Control

• Options that pull enemies toward her, letting her dispatch tightly packed groups.
• Brief disrupts that help maintain control during large engagements.

Utility and Sustain

• Minor self-sustain tools.
• Supportive bonuses depending on your chosen branch.

Her skill tree allows you to lean into either wider crowd pressure or heavier single-target aggression. You can respec at any time from the Mercenary menu.

Massacre You and Varyana stack Massacre together on kills. Certain stack thresholds grant Movement Speed: 10 Stacks : + 5% Movement Speed 25 Stacks : + 10% Movement Speed 50 Stacks : + 15% Movement Speed 100 Stacks : + 20% Movement Speed Massacre resets after 7 seconds of not killing an enemy. From there, two skill trees are available to choose from. You can respec for free at any time by right clicking on a skill to remove the point.

Cleave Skill Tree

Cleave Varyana swings two axes in an arc in front of her, dealing 60% Physical damage and 24% Bleeding damage over 4 seconds. Selecting a Mercenary Core Skill alters their wielded Weapon and Basic Attack. Weapon: Dual Axes Basic Attack: Double Strike Varyana slashes enemies with dual axes, dealing 58% Physical damage. She has a 45% chance to also deal 24% Bleeding damage over 3 seconds. Cooldown: 11 Seconds Damage: Physical Tags: Mercenary Core

Hysteria You gain + 1.0% Attack Speed for 5 seconds whenever Varyana damages an enemy, up to + 10%. Passive

Recklessness Varyana's Cleave inflicts Vulnerable on enemies for 3 seconds. Passive

Bloodthirst Varyana enters Bloodthirst, gaining + 30% Attack Speed, + 200% Movement Speed, and Unstoppable for 7 seconds. Varyana's Bloodthirst grants + 10% Attack Speed to you for the same duration. Cooldown: 22 Seconds Damage: Physical Tags: Mercenary Iconic

Intimidated While Varyana has Bloodthirst, enemies around her deal 15% reduced damage. Passive

Bloodlust Varyana's Bloodthirst further increases your Attack Speed by + 5%. Passive

Whirlwind Varyana spins violently in a line, repeatedly dealing 85% Physical damage and 30% Bleeding damage over 5 seconds (DoT). Cooldown: 11 Seconds Damage: Physical Tags: Mercenary Iconic

No Escape Varyana's Whirlwind Pulls In enemies every 1.5 seconds and gains 60% Size. Passive

Taste of Flesh When you or Varyana deal direct damage to an enemy inflicted with any of her Bleeding effects, you Heal for 2% of your Maximum Life. Passive

Shockwave Skill Tree

Shockwave Varyana slams the ground for a brutal shockwave in front of her, dealing 80% Physical damage and Knocking Down enemies for 2 seconds. Selecting a Mercenary Core Skill alters their wielded Weapon and Basic Attack. Weapon: Two-Handed Mace Basic Attack: Heavy Strike Varyana batters enemies with a mace, dealing 80% Physical damage with + 20% increased Critical Strike Chance. Cooldown: 11 Seconds Damage: Physical Tags: Mercenary Core

Crushing Force When Varyana deals damage to an enemy, she has a 30% chance to Knock them Down for 2 seconds. Passive

Reprisal If you become Crowd Controlled, Varyana leaps towards the enemy that inflicted it, dealing 128% Physical damage and Knocking Down surrounding enemies for 2 seconds on impact. Can only occur once every 12 seconds. Passive

Earth Breaker Varyana crushes the ground with her mace, leaving a tremor that deals 180% Physical damage over 3 seconds and Knocks enemies Down repeatedly. Cooldown: 17 Seconds Damage: Physical Damage Tags: Mercenary Iconic

Rampage You deal x 15% increased damage to enemies afflicted by any of Varyana's Crowd Control effects. Passive

Dismembering Enemies damaged by Varyana's Earth Breaker are left exposed, causing your next hit against them within 3 seconds to be a guaranteed Overpower. This may only occur on the same target once every 5 seconds. Cooldown: 22 Seconds Damage: Physical Tags: Mercenary Iconic

Ancient Harpoons Varyana launches three harpoons ahead of her, piercing enemies for 200% Physical damage. She then rips them back, Pulling In (CC) and Stunning (CC) enemies for 4 seconds. Cooldown: 17 Seconds Damage: Physical Damage Tags: Mercenary Iconic

Annihilator Varyana's Ancient Harpoons additionally Slow enemies by 40% for 5 seconds. During this time, you gain x 30% Lucky Hit Chance against those targets. Passive

Iron Grip Varyana's Ancient Harpoons travel 33% farther and reduce enemies' Impairment Resistance by 50% for 5 seconds. Passive

Bartering Options

Reaching Rapport Rank V with Varyana unlocks her Bartering options with Fayira in The Den (Map).

Varyana specialises in:

• Mobility-focused Aspect Caches
• Masterworking Materials
• Obols

Higher Rapport ranks improve the quality and quantity of her Bartering rewards. As with all Mercenaries, rewards and Bartering options are purchased using Pale Marks earned through the Rapport system.
