Knock Back

Knock Back is one of Diablo 4's simplest Crowd Control effects, but it has plenty of uses in both solo and group play. When triggered, it pushes an enemy away from the player, interrupting what they were doing and forcing them out of their current position. It doesn't fully disable them, but it does give you a moment to breathe, or to line up your next attack.

What Knock Back Does

When an enemy is affected by Knock Back:

  • They are instantly pushed backwards from the player.
  • Their current action is visibly interrupted.
  • They can still act normally once the push finishes.
  • It does not Immobilise or Stun them by itself.
  • If an enemy is pushed into terrain, some skills can deal bonus damage or cause a brief Stun.
  • They do not fall over or lie on the ground that's Knock Down, a different crowd control effect.

This makes Knock Back a positional CC tool rather than a total disable.

Why Use Knock Back?

Knock Back is handy in a few situations:

  • Creating space from melee enemies.
  • Interrupting dangerous attacks or channelling skills.
  • Breaking up elite packs to avoid being surrounded.
  • Triggering damage bonuses from skills, passives, or Aspects that care about Knock Back.

Do keep in mind that while Knock Back is excellent for survival, it can sometimes be a mixed blessing for melee or AoE-heavy builds. Pushing enemies out of your own damage zones (or out of your friends' AoEs) can slow down clear-speed if you're not careful.
