Blacksmith

The Blacksmith is an NPC entirely focused on item customisation and improvement. From breaking down old gear for crafting materials and Legendary Aspects to repairing items, adding affixes and upgrading existing affixes to boost your item's powers. They are probably the busiest NPC in town.

Repair and Durability
Repair Loss of Durability

Repairing

Items have a durability maximum of 100 but this is reduced by 10% every time you die and resurrect yourself. If someone else ressurects you items don't lose durability.

If an item reaches zero durability all the benefits the item provides will stop. You can still use the item in the case of weapons but any stats it has are ignored. Visit the Blacksmith to repair it. They can repair individual items or everything you have equipped in exchange for Gold. Jewelry never needs repairing.

Salvaging

Players can salvage items and break them down to component parts at the Blacksmith. The better the item grade, the better the salvaged materials.

Note: Nightmare Sigils can also be salvaged at the Occultist.

What to upgrade

As with previous games, it's only worth upgrading Rare, Legendary or Unique items.

Upgrade Materials

Transmogs

Salvaging items is required to unlock their appearance for transmogs for the Wardrobe.

Marking Items

Players can mark items as "Junk" which makes it easier to salvage the useless items quickly at the Blacksmith.
