Who is Malphas?

Malphas was a new boss added in Diablo 4 Season 3: Season of the Construct.

Malphas is a servant of Diablo, he's shapeless, manipulates others, and takes on the form of others. In the Season of Constrcut, Malphas has taken the form of one of Zoltun Kulle's prize Constructs, The Guardian.

After ruling over the Vaults for many years, Malphas has now decided to expand his reach over the rest of Sanctuary. It's only now the people of Sanctuary have been alerted to his presence with the appearance of Arcane Tremors in the overworld.

As players traverse the Vaults, players are going through his literal body.

Fighting Malphas

Malphas is the first stationary boss in Diablo 4. He stays rooted to the center of the boss arena and utlises projectiles and traps to attack the player. You need to constantly be on the move and make sure you look for the telegraphs on upcoming floor traps and then get in behind him to make the hit.

This fight is a little trickier with a melee character.

There is also an Uber version of Malphas and players will have to traverse a very hard Vault to defeat Uber Malphas in in World Tier 4.

The Uber Echo of Malphas fight is a lot harder with him now firing everything almost at once. Make sure you kill the obelisks that appear to stop him using elemental attacks and keep moving.

How to get to the Echo of Malphas

Igneous Core

In patch 1.3.0a, a new item was added called Igneous Cores. These are now required to access this harder version of the boss.

Igneous Cores have a chance to drop from Vault Heralds and are guaranteed to drop from Son of Malphas in World Tier 4.

Malphas Drops

Malphas will not drop any unique items but will drop unique Tuning Stones when defeated in World Tier 4. In patch 1.3.0a, the Echo of Malphas rewards more legendary items.

Genesis	Increase the effectiveness of the supported Skil by 150%.

Changes to Malphas

Patch 1.3.0a, January 27, 2024

Echo of Malphas has had their Level raised from 85 to 100.
The Health pool of Echo of Malphas has been increased by 30%.
A new item—Igneous Cores—now exists for the purpose of accessing the Uber Vault and Echo of Malphas. This item will replace the usage of Pearls of Warding in providing access.
- Igneous Cores have a chance to drop from Vault Heralds and are guaranteed to drop from Son of Malphas in World Tier IV.
Loot Updates
- The drop rate of Unique Stones from Malphas increased from .25% to .5%.
- Unique Stones now have a 3% chance of dropping from the chest after the boss.
- Defeating Echo of Malphas will now reward more Legendary items. Additionally, Item Level 925 items will drop more often.
