Sept completed :) I'll continue this thread for general HC progress reports.

Original intro:
After having a lot of fun with the Zod sept, I felt like starting another long-term side project. Or as @maxicek aptly put it:
There is only one way to get over the post sept blues. Start another sept.
(Btw this does not replace the imperative MP sept, in case you thought you got off the hook.)

Quite simple really:

Trying to get Guardian with each class while using the class specific sets.

The restrictions are rather on the HC wealth side of things, and me being new to HC with only one recent Guardian.

But I had wanted to use each class-specific set for a long time now. At first I thought about SC, and adding a twist by playing each class as Bear on top of it. But that's just not possible with Trang-Oul's and makes absolutely zero sense with Tal Rasha's orb. :D So something else then. My main project at the moment is an untwinked 99er Barb in HC, said recent first Guardian of mine. He's currently lvl 97 and has farmed a basic stash of HC gear by now. All my HC stuff is what's found by that Barb (or the new chars in this sept themselves), so it's not like I have tons of other OP gear for these guys anyway. ;)

Build choice will be somewhat restricted given the sets and my limited other HC resources, but I'll still try to check out builds/variants I haven't tried so far. Here's the initial plan:

All looks pretty solid to me.

I think bear is a great choice for Griswold's set. I'm just planning to finish off the sets in SC, I was considering it but too many bears going at the moment. (I'm going Holy Shock + FoH with all my crappy facets stuffing the holes)
I'm going Aldurs Bear with maxxed Armageddon. Staight up fire druid maybe too as you don't need FCR?


What about merc gear? Do you have infinity or anything juicy in HC?
 
@maxicek yeah I made several Bears too recently, but same was true for Avengers :) and indeed Griswold's will be an interesting one.

Druid is a "pick your poison" type of situation I think. :) Standard Fire druid is another option indeed, but except for sockets, the only useful thing from the set would be a meagre 4 skill points... That being said, other options aren't great. That weapon is total garbage. At first I thought Fire Claws as main dmg source (to bypass the low physical damage) would make sense, but attack rate will be terrible even with 3x Shael in weapon...

I mean what kind of class is this?

Best elemental: Well he beats Barb in this category, that's about it. :D

Enough for another Enigma, and a couple of Mal & Ist short of Infinity and CtA, the latter taking precedence once they drop. My Barb has of course made an Enigma that he could lend to other HC chars... but that would really suck if it gets deeded and my Barb cannot make progress towards 99 anymore. :D But maybe in this case it makes sense to make Infinity, none of these upcoming HC chars can use Enigma anyway after all.

@D2DC Ah nice, didn't know you had a similar project going on, I'll be sure to report on progress along the way and whether things work out or not. :)

I forget where/what I was reading, but the 350% ED on Aldurs set was significant. I believe because you can add min/max charms and jewels and those get multiplied?

@ffs sometimes I forget all my "projects" myself.. need to put someone on payroll to help keep things organized..

I did an Aldurs fire claw wolf and it worked reasonably well with Fury backup. You could go with infinity merc or reapers, although I went with Faith Rogue. And the physical damage isn’t quite as bad as it seems (or at least I remember being surprised that he could kill FIs). He had rabies, but it’s not really helpful as an FI solution, so those points would be pushed into synergies or wereform.

Makes sense. I'd like to try the Flaming Mauler route with him, but may change my mind as I go along.

Included the first sketch of build and setup ideas above. Mostly looking forward to the Pally, with Holy Shock he should be fun and strong. Unfortunately I'm missing shield and weapon from that set currently, likely will be played later on.

I have all the stuff for Assassin and Amazon and will probably start with Assassin. Phoenix Striker will be a real novelty for me, but I just built a Natalya's WW sin for the current MP project and like it a lot. So this one should be fun, too.
 
Off we go, started the Sin on the weekend and brought her through NM. Currenty in Fire Trapper spec.

In the last ~1h I played the Barb, he found Jah and Mal. Both are really convenient. First, we made a CtA, which (after some embarrassing confusion due to only displaying +3 BC/BO on the Barb) was a very pleasant surprise with +5 BC/+6 BO.

While the Jah isn't useful for the chars in this sept directly, it means I have enough Sur-Jah runes to make both Infinity and Enigma, so I will definitely go for Infinity here. Problem is after the CtA I'm missing Mal+Ist to make it. :)

I do want to use it on the Sin, so for the time being I will wait with questing her through Hell until I've made Infinity. Same applies for other chars that should use it, probably including Amazon, Druid and Paladin.

So next I'll get to work on the Barb or Necro, since I've got their end game gear covered. Also leaning towards playing the Barb in WW spec after all, maybe hitting Trav a bit for that Mal/Ist, and eventually making him a HC Trav runner in general. In fact the Barb might become my RFL Trav runner if he lives to see the day.

Indeed I secretly hope that will do it, but otherwise I'm willing to mix in a little farming. Ist/Mal shouldn't take too long.

Legit took me a minute. Haha love it.
 
Small progress update as Necro is now Conqueror.

He's now killed Andariel and arrived in Lut Gholein.

We respec'ed and equipped TO set in A5 NM. Fully synergized PNova, lvl 16 LR post-BO and a couple of points in summon tree. Build is very solid of course and he could easily handle A1 Hell on P8 offensively, but after a couple of encounters whith Amp'ed Archers and the like, we dropped to P3 just for safety reasons. Think I'll go back and forth between various player settings depending on the area, but mostly keeping it at P3.

I first went with Insight IG, but when it died I realized I didn't even need it, thanks to the high mana from set and limited mana needs due to the build nature. Merc is swinging an eth CA Obedience for big boy damage and boss killing capabilities. For summons he's just using Clay Golem and 5 Skeletons.

Drops included an Um (which helps towards Infinity) and a couple of items that could be used to twink some of the other chars. These and a few drops on the Assassin below:

Sin is still in A1 Hell with no quests done, waiting for Infinity. Best drop with her was this one though. Basically first rare pelt she picked up was +5 Tornado, and useful other mods to boot:

Time to get back to D2... HC style. :) With my current main project being the untwinked HC 99er Barb, I'll try and slowly progress this sept alongside of the Barb. Still missing a few things for this sept (Mal/Ist for Infinity, set items mentioned in the first post), so I'll mostly focus on the Barb in hopes of getting more stuff for these guys.

Nonetheless, since the Necro didn't need anything else and was already in the middle of Hell difficulty, I quested him through to be the first Guardian of this sept:

He started out with Envy bow and breast plate, plus Hsaru's boots and belt until lvl 13. Then he used a 6x Tir sword, Tarnhelm and mana/FCR rings, which along with Insight added at lvl 27 carried him through to NM easily. He incrementally added stuff like SoJ, BKWB, Viper etc. until he was able to use the full TO set along with a White wand.

He went through Hell without much difficulty, mostly questing on P3. I dropped to P1 for Ancients and Baal but that made it a bit of a joke as those guys melted quickly, I think he would have been comfortable in all of Hell around P3-P5. Obedience Merc was annoying at times due to the cold damage leading to corpse shattering in situations where I wanted to CE :) but it was definitely worth using because it turned all boss fights into a kindergarten exercise really.

I had hoped for Hell HF to deliver Mal/Ist for Infinity, but was disappointed with an Io. The only two drops worth mentioning overall were a Lem and (fittingly) TO headpiece:

Overall surprisingly smooth journey given his limited power level. The set is obviously catered towards Poison Necro, but I had expected the lack of skillers (and not to mention DWeb) would be felt more. Even mobility was really decent. I still don’t know whether it’s a bug or intended feature, but casting before switching to vampire form (eg by using CtA/weapon swapping) always makes the Necro run really fast for a bit, that is until he is interrupted or casts/does something else. It’s like a built in Vigor aura on demand almost :) so whenever I was in some boring or annoying spot, that was my preferred method of skipping a bit of ground here and there.

Anyways, not much else to say, pretty standard build with straight-forward gameplay.

Next up is probably Barb, just because I've got his gear ready to go as well.

Barb is done and was promptly turned into my future HC Travincal runner. Muled over a bunch of stuff and made my 2nd HC Enigma which will be used for "general HC purposes", while my 99er Barb keeps his own Enigma.

He found Aldur's weapon during his playthrough, so remaining missing items now for Sorc and Pally sets.

My 99er Barb remains in D2 legacy, but is slowly progressing towards 98 and found an Ist last week:

I could now cube a Mal to make Infinity in HC/D2R as well, but there's no rush. While I do have a 4os eth CV on my 99er Barb, I don't mind doing some general farming and hope for a faster polearm to drop.

Started the Druid too, he's just about to start NM. Pure Fissure so far, obviously OP throughout Normal and NM.

As mentioned elsewhere, I'm continuing HC generally in D2R and I've mostly been running with the Trav Barb to farm some gear basics. In fact I started the Druid to get socket quests for the Barb's Merc gear really.

After an unfortunate mishap I actually lost a set item, namely Aldur's boots, by accidentally ctrl-clicking in a vendor interface... and ofc in this particular case Larzuk had no space available for it to show up so I could buy it back. :mad:

But I'm mostly running Travincal with the Barb. Big upgrade when he finally found a HLW. Runs are sooo much better now.

His gear is rather solid now and runs are starting to feel like proper farming. :)

No luck so far as to any of the missing set items (now with Aldur's boots added to the list again..), but he did find a couple of Pul and Gul runes (madea 2nd Hoto with them), 2 facets and a few decent magic/rare items:

Not a huge fan of CL as main skill, but still loving this orb given 20 FCR and in particular some MPK in addition to the skills:

EDIT: Nevermind, Trav Barb quickly found Aldur's boots again. So Druid will be pushed next. :)

Once he's in Hell, I'll probably mix in some area farming to get a faster eth elite polearm and then make Infinity.

I respec'ed the Assassin to Phoenix Strike now.. and gotta say, I'm a bit scared. She seems pretty squishy and damage output is not very good at this point. Not having played Phoenix Strikers before and still need to get a few levels before I can use the full set, plus I need some practice with the charge-up gameplay. I've been reading @maxicek's helpful guide on the build as well, but so far I'm still feeling a bit uneasy playing this in HC...

I hope once I make Infinity she will be stronger, but then again I'm honestly afraid I'll just quickly lose Infinity when she RIPs. :)

Played the Druid to A2 Hell. That set is such garbage. :D What makes matters worse is that, while I have found the weapon twice, it rolled 2os both times... Of course having another socket for on-weapon IAS really makes a difference for shifters. It works alright, but just isn't a lot of fun to play. The set weapon being very common, I hope I'll find a 3os one soon and have parked him in Lut Gholein for a bit, instead farming Trav with the Barb and finishing another char with some farming capabilities...

As planned, we went Magezon after beating Normal and NM in Java spec and leveling to 70 in A5 NM. Gear used in Hell:

Also, a grand total of zero bow skillers. :( Hell progress was really slow. FA is pretty strong with just the set so fighting non-CI monsters was more than fine, but I still kept it on P1 for basically all of Hell because overall she was definitely rather weak. Especially durance in A3 was tough with those nasty dolls, causing one REALLY close NDE (<100 HP) despite constantly refreshing BO and visiting town whenever amp'ed. A4 was difficult too, moreover had to abort the first Diablo attempt when she was imprisoned by big D.

A5 however was pretty easy again (on P1 mind you). Also her drops were pretty good, with a real big boy from a brief stint at Pindle to get 1-2 levels after rescuing Anya:

She got a Gul from HF, too, so not a bad rune yield for one playthrough.

After beating Hell Baal, she again respec'ed to Java in order to run Pindle and cows. Especially looking for an Infinity base from cows and missing set items from Pindle (Gris + Tal sets), but also just generally building up a decent stash of items in HC.

I will build some kind of MF Barb in HC, but for now I only have this guy (Latro) in D2R and he will be staying in Travincal for the foreseeable future. Don't even have a Sorc yet either, so yeah, Java is my HC MF char for now. :D

I generally had nice drops on both Zon and Barb these last few days:
Luckily finding Aldur's boots again after accidentally selling my other pair to Larzuk :)

Congrats on the Guardian, and the Ber. Also, Viper Crest :love: Fissure Druid respec for Cows may be in order if you can get the Aldur's Set character through!
