Tigra has cleared Act 1, even managed to tick off first grailers (starting from scratch, again):
When starting Act2, I've not found a single rune yet. Kinda expected, but I was hoping to even see an El or Eld in Act1. While beating Radament, I did see my first rune, Tir. Old memories coming back and I immediately thought of a handy early game runeword, did 15 min of shopping and one single Countess run, to get my first runeword and probably a weapon for the rest of Normal:

And Death made another quarter level, sitting just past 98.75, and about 22 hours left to go. Item drops? Nope, not really. He picked up a Grandfather and a sharp LC that replaced the Fine GC noted in the last update, and that's about it. Runes? He picked up two more high runes . . . both Mals
And an Um. So a total of 8 Pul+ runes so far: 3 Puls, 1 Um, 4 Mals.
I'm still hoping to finish him up over the holidays, but it's looking like I won't have much time off at work. So he may have to wait until January. Good luck to everyone still running, and keep the updates coming!

Nice to see this thread still being active, and congrats on the progress @PhineasB! Gogo!
Haven't been playing for a while, but holiday season back home always means some spare time for D2.
Realistically there's no way I'm going to take this guy to 99, but I always meant to finally get a Guardian. In my case this is by definition untwinked, so why not share the progress here in any case, and who knows where he'll end up (probably dead though).
Long term I want him to be a Singer, so that I can safely farm some HC gear when I feel like it. Getting to 30+ will be enough of a pain, and just when he'll be reasonably comfortable, the LK grind for Enigma awaits... so you may not hear from him for another few months.

@ffs - I totally don't mind hearing about the progress of your HC barb, even if it doesn't end up being a serious 99 attempt. Other than my tournament characters, I also have a couple of paladins I'm working towards trying to get my first guardian as well. The furthest one is right now bashing the NM Mephisto piñata with dreadful MF, hoping to find some goodies for his Zeal build.

First off huge Congratz @Kinkara !! Awesome job man!
After getting to level 96 and 25% I died again to Lister. Thiss bastard just 2 shot me instantly.
That 10% loss tilted me super hard once again and I took a break from diablo 2 for almost the whole month of dezember.
I Just started to do some baal runs again and Iam trying to get back into it. Kinkara getting to level 99 woke my interessed in diablo 2 and this challenge agian. I hope I can achive 97 soon. Alltough Iam not super motivated to grind hard atm so I will probably take it slow.

After testing Nihlathak runs until 3306 mark and a failed start on fresh ladder, I decided to start grinding on single player mode. I really do not know whether it is my Wifi or bnet servers, but online games are currently unplayable. It is just way too laggy over there and I had a quite hilarious rip on nightmare level.
Anyways ... I have put in some hours and Fragile´s journey will end this year. Probably it will happen on 31st of December and I will record the final hour to post it on Youtube or somewhere. Still running on low-end M/h rate, which has been constantly between 2,1-2,2 M/h after I decided to skip checking the drops all together. As you remember I was actually trying to gear up a bit by rerolling Nihlathak´s grand charms and crafting amulets in the beginning of level 99, but I figured that it was just not worth it. The chance of getting a 15+ fcr +2 fire or all skills is quite slim and I estimated that it would improve my M/h rate about 100-200 k per hour, which would be more or less the same amount I´d lose while crafting amulets in the first place. Nevertheless, believe it or not, I still need to farm items for gold sometimes and I found one Jah rune by doing so.

@Luhkoh No i didnt put together a body recovery kit and iam too scared of dying again and loosing even more exp while trying to get my corpse back :/
@Luhkoh No i didnt put together a body recovery kit and iam too scared of dying again and loosing even more exp while trying to get my corpse back :/

@Pax1990 pleeease put yourself together a body recovery kit for me (I recommend naj's staff for teleport and vmagi and some fcr/res jewelry with str/dex if you need that to equip najs staff). Truly no reason not to. Cutting the loss down to 2.5% really takes a lot of the sting out. You have to die >3 times attempting the recovery for it not to have been worth it.
And for what it's worth, I have never failed a body recovery when I had teleport and battle orders, and have failed countless ones when trying to go naked.

@d2lover it's 10% of the XP needed for the level, so it's the same loss at 98.1 as 98.9, with the only difference being not being able to lose full 1/10th when under XX.1. So Luhkoh's explanation is correct, with 2.5% of the XP needed for the level with corpse recovery.

A little bit of an update on Tigra, to finish up the Xmas holidays!
Normal and Nightmare were not the most eventful ones I've had. Pretty standard questing through and stopping at Act5 to level up, mostly at Pindle. On Nightmare, I did spend a wee bit of time at Mephi to try and pull some useful gear, but I think the most useful item I found was Duriel's Shell for my Merc.
Yesterday, I moved on to Hell at a ripe level of 77. I died instantly outside of Rogue Encampment to a Fallen boss pack. How come? I realised I was still using +5 light res Leather Armor I got myself in Act 1 Normal. So I essentially went through both Normal and Nightmare with this armor. So I went through my stashes and the best I could find was... Hawkmail. Hey, 10FRW is kinda useful, right?
Pretty much teleported through Act 1 and until Act 2 and Lost City, to see how I could fare in Ancient Tunnels. I believe I was lvl78 at this point. AT, not much fun, yet. I'm wearing a Spirit sword, Rhyme shield, rest is similar to Hawkmail, where I'm using just whatever random bits and pieces I've found along the way, but nothing outstanding. Best items would be 36mf Chance Guards and Tal's belt. But stopping at AT landed me my first "better" rune, a Mal from Golden chest. Apologies, no screenshot as I was just trying to stay alive and grabbed the rune and S&E due to mobs.
I've since then moved to Act 3 this morning and hit LK. That was my initial goal before Xmas, so I could try and land few runes for RWs to get Tigra geared up. I did 13 runs before finishing up for now.
Once I'll reach Act 5 and Pindle, I'll add in Tigra to the running table, but that might take a bit since I want to keep pushing in LK for a bit. Kinda want CTA, HOTO, COH, but I might settle for just HOTO for now.

Similar update as @Neksja here, as my HC Barb arrived in Hell LK.
Well, actually not the same HC Barb, as it turns out rushing an underpowered HC char was not the best thing to do when returning to the game after a couple of months break.
Naturally I swore Revenge, and that (Revenge) is what I called the new Barb to replace him. Things went better with this guy.
Normal/NM:
I took inspiration from some speed running strats, and employed this approach for both chars: Starting out in normal, he first farmed Countess for Malice, Stealth and Tals. He used Malice and Tal'ed Flails with Double Swing until Eldritch. There he leveled to 30 and respec'ed to WC, then got another few levels there before finishing A5 to hit cows. Farmed them for Insight base, after which he went on to NM Countess. She was run for extra runes including Ort Sol helm, and in particular dual Spirit swords. Bases were cubed/dropped en route, and by end of A2 he was all set with those items. The rest of NM was a breeze. He made further pit stops at Eldritch (and later Pindle) to level to 73 eventually, beefing up his survivability and damage for Hell. There was a shrine and 1-2 extra packs at Eldritch which meant rather quick leveling. Next he moved on to Baal and hit NM Cows briefly for a better Insight base. I finally settled for Bill after other cube tries failed. Drops of note until this point included 40 MF Chancies dropped by NM Diablo, and +3 WC/+1 FI barb helm that helped his leveling.
I started without extended stash actually, which was an interesting limitation given the amount of stuff new characters need. But by now I switched to extended stash, because he's already found a decent amount of nice damage charms and gear for both physical and Singer build. At some point I decided I kinda want to be able to switch between Singer and WW or maybe even Berserk/Conc builds (and according charm collections) in future.
Hell:
Actual Hell gameplay was not the smoothest, with a weak Merc and low damage from WC. However, thanks to a teleport charges staff he picked in A3 NM, he basically skipped through to LK directly, only freeing Cain, killing Andy, gathering staff and killing Duriel in A2. In A3 he didn't do anything but go directly to LK, and quickly rolled this map:
Normally would look for closer to WP, but I settled for this one because the longer distance is made up for by (1) a really good amount of poppables en route and (2) at least one, sometimes two shrines which I always like to have for LK maps in order to maximize crafting efforts.
Been at it for 6 hours or so currently. Finally got a Harmony base ~5h in. Drops so far:
Java Life skiller
Trap life skiller
Offensive Aura life skiller
3x Sharp GCs: 13 Life, Cold dmg, plain
4x Fine SCs: 19 life, rest plain
2 Barb/3 increased speed helm
3 WC ammy

@ffs love your update and am super pumped for some reason that you've started hc. Makes me want to join you sort of, but have too many other projects as usual. Good luck! And I'll be rooting for revenge!
