MFO Summer 2020 Signups and Running Thread

@Pb_pal now we're talking :D Your safety concerns will be your downfall!

It's been months since my sorc had her last gear upgrade. A couple of 7% MF charms isn't too much to ask I hope?
I could also use a 30% DF 🥶 and shinier rings would make me happy.

Other than that, a new HoR record after the MFO and some progress towards 98. Estimated about 11k more runs required, going to put in at least 3k.

Now now, I did run only <5 hours last year.

We could also look at the prior 2 MFOs I competed in where I placed 3rd in A85 and 2nd in Baal, respectively. My team placed 2nd and 1st in those MFOs as well. Neither of those years were run with a character properly decked out for MFing either. Feel free to focus on the outlier if it helps you sleep at night. ;)

I mean, 'safety concerns' is relative with a Singer. I will still have 600+ MF on my horking switch, so I think I *should* be able to find some cool stuff. My one regret is that I don't have enough Ists in HC to make dual 6xIst Crystal Swords for his horking switch. Yet...

Personal Goals for MFO

Don't die with my HC Zerker running Pindle. That shouldn't be too hard to do.
Find either Death's Fathom or Griffons.
Maybe bring my Grail from -18 to -10 (only 2 items he can't drop that I'm missing Tyreal's and Azurewrath)

Goals
1. Any one grailer (am at -5)
2. Get faster with the zerker so I don't feel like such a slouch talking to ResTTe and ffs (currently ~80s runs)
3. >20 hours
4. Tyraels and fathom (why not?)
5. Up my trash talk game

Singing is for barbs too weak to swing a phase blade...

Goals?

- Run for 20 hours. Gonna be tough for me, but I'm dedicated to trying.
- Find 10 grailers. I don't think I'm asking too much since I'm currently at -80, but with a handful of random exceptions most everything I'm looking for now is either jewelry / facets, very high end stuff, or TC3s. One of those exceptions? It'd be nice if one those finds is my first pair of War Travs. ...And because RNG has a cruel sense of humor, I must stipulate non-eth Travs, plz.
- Find anything that improves this Blizzsorc, the biggest potential upgrade being a Fathom. I'm locked into a full Tal's set for MP play with John Remedy and I haven't come up with a good alternative to balance damage, MF, and safety (we do WSK runs at /p5), but a Fathom would shake things up most considerable.
- Perhaps a bit esoteric, but find my love of item hunting again. I was once a highly dedicated & motivated grailer, but that was many years ago. It's great in MP since we just talk and chill and make dumb inside jokes / references while on the lookout for runes and random lucky finds, but I lost the spark for solo MF'ing. It'd be cool to rediscover an old passion.

Rolled up a decent AT map over the weekend and did some practice runs to get a feel for the pace of play, and I found myself a Grandfather (not a grailer). I'd hate it if my best find from this map came before the MFO even started... 🐼

And I don't know why, but I'm considering streaming my runs during the competition. No one's gonna care about the events, myself or any potential viewers out there. I won't be paying attention to chat, I don't care about building a fanbase because I don't plan on doing any other streaming regularly, and other alvl85 runners can't watch because of spoilers. ...But it'd be cool as heck to have something amazing drop and I had video proof for it. If I'm honest, though? All it's gonna do is prove how noobish I am at playing the game after all these years. Still, can't shake the idea...

Late to the party as work's been kicking my behind. I'm joining my first MFO nonchalantly, mainly for personal focus on MFing/XP goals. Despite being a relatively long-time SPFer, and a D2 player since 2001-ish, I've never been interested in the D2 grail until last year, and never in the MFO or 'the grind'. For the record, I'm happy to take part in the post-tournament item distribution, regardless of where I place.

Goals: Currently at Grail -27 after finding my first pair of War Travs earlier this week (perfect 50% MF!). Hoping to find an Ethereal Edge, which has proven very elusive. I was planning to run Pindle with my BlizzSorc and make use of the War Travs, but I think I'm going to enter in the Baal category and add some XP to my Lite Sorc (currently at L97.05) and continue to make use of the near-perfect Griffon's I still can't believe I own. A continuation of the WSK rune luck @Trim and I have had in MP would be fantastic as well.

Edit: On topic, goal is simply to get untwinked 99er Barb to 97.75. Work is shaping up to be busy, so we'll see. Also, have Tyrael's drop to complete the grail with the massive 164 MF the Barb is packing for Baal runs . . . so highly likely :rolleyes:

If we're talking goals, I hope to...

(1) Run enough for my wrists to fall off and eyes to bleed, then run some more for good measure. My body can't take much punishment these days sadly, but I still want to experience the pain.

(2) Get something resembling a reasonable Hall of Records number. I'll probably be doing 100 run bursts as much as possible. In the test runs, I was at 32.5s / 5.9 packs in AT, which is pretty frustratingly bad. I've always been more about attrition than skill, but it'd be nice to at least get back to form somewhat.

(3) Demolish frozzzen so I can have bragging rights in the final MFO we'll participate in, because we absolutely totally won't be suckered into another one whenever it happens. Nope. Definitely not.

The last time I participated in an elite magic find contest was over nine years ago, so I think a reasonable goal will be to beat my last result by collecting more than ten qualifiers. I have even prepared another Moz running paladin, which is what I used back then, but I'm wondering if I should also get my pure blizzard sorceress up to hell AT in the next few days.

(More recently, I also competed in a TC3 magic find contest a little over four years ago, but of course that was nothing like an MFO.)
