2017 Winter RFL Signup and Running Thread: 2nd Round

Is there anyone else who goes for full second set or I'm the only one?

I'm at 11 hours so got 2hr 15min of playing per day to finish the set which is piece of cake. There is still very tight race in RFO score in between my sets where one drop can change everything. I guess it might be interesting comparison to the very end which I welcome. Also started to use faceted Shako on sorc, I figured I don't pick up enough things (mostly gems) to justify CBF, so I welcome now over 10k damage.
 
What I forgot to mention in my previous post: I always had a shrine next to the waypoint, and really often a second one next to the balcony. I'm not sure how many it were in the end, because I didn't count, but I sure did get a lot of perfect gems this way. Very convenient !!!
 
Well I got a ton of unexpected playing time this weekend and managed to finish my set early! Definitely an interesting experience, especially since it was my first real foray into Trav running.

I don't want to brag, but after last night's session I could totally make an Ancients Pledge shield.

Still kinda fun to just play, might as well get enough Trav in my system to last a while. Died 2 times with the Barb and once with the Sorc, that tells you something how interested I'm in efficiency at this point. I might just have enough time to finish this set, but I'm not counting on it.

Got my first Mara's of the round, with lowest roll possible. That means I've gotten very unique jewelry this round except BKWB and Metalgrid. Got Druid Elemental skiller with 13 life. Found two more facets (cold 4/4, fire 3/3), that makes 8 facets so far, none of them lightning. Also some kinda useful (but not great) res/life/mf small charms.

Also did small video of the Barb, to showcase the better map. Not the fastest running possible, but this is quite manageable for longer period. ~36s average, with decent amount of care put in drop checking.
 
To summarize my running from tonight: finally managed to not find Gul rune for 50 runs in a row

As for other news, by the looks of it I will have roughly 300 small charms after 20 hours to check did I find something good or not. Also good quantity of rare rings, though I don't really think those will score anything. As usual. Can't wait to have Christmas time checking jewels charms etc to see what I actually found during this running :D Only 2 facets so far, not really lucky this RFL with those.

As for RFO score going in between sets, extrapolating second set's finds so far to full 20 hours, it is only 0.1 point away from the first set. It surely can't get more tight than that, very interesting indeed.

Still ~1250 runs left to do till the end, so who knows what might happen...

After I finish this set of mine, I might try to do some proper barb test running on a sorc map (cuz I'm lazy to roll a new one) to compare them strictly and directly. I'm 90% positive barb can't do what sorc can on a long run, but I'm still gonna give it a shot to try to figure something out. Before I didn't do this walking checking thing which is a mistake, but now I'll try to really properly test barb to see what he can do with the same playing rules as with sorc. I never played barb without picking all gems before either. Also found convenient upgrade for him. Nothing serious, I'm gonna put 1 warcry skiller in inventory instead of Gheed to exclude BC from the running completely since he needs all the time advantage he can get.

I'll also try proper travboner test to see what he can do, or also proper poisonnec travtest too. Gear and everything is already planned.
 
With all the talk about Fanazealots in Travincal some time ago, I decided that I will try out a ZealBarb in Travincal at some point. Won't be as fast as WW Barb, but should be quite fast and fun I'd think.

@tokerdin Correct term in this case would be ATMA-bugging, no Zods were harmed during the process :) It's a subject that just got one thread closed so it's better we don't get too much into it here. You can find all the relevant info from this thread.

@Gripphon Thanks! And nice video with the Oaths. I've been thinking of making a video without time travel gear (2xGrief PB, 1.13 Charms and LoH) on the same map, to test out what's the difference. That would however require respeccing, so that'll have to wait for now. But that video kinda serves the same purpose. I think the added range from BAs might actually serve greater purpose than the added damage, at least from the quality-of-life perspective.

I also gave a thought to replacing one GC with Warcry skiller back when I was choosing the charms, but didn't consider switching out Gheed's. That is pretty solid option, and I might try it, especially because my MF quota is pretty much full as far as this round is considered. I might also finally switch out the PTopaz from the Arreat's to ED jewel, just to squeeze out as much damage as possible. I'd loose 62 MF from those changes but I'm ok with it at this point.

But even though the Barb is fun, Sorc still wins imo. It's not only the loot thing, it's also the ease-of-use not needing to bother with weapon switch, not needing to worry about mana burn etc. Barb is fun in small incerements, but has too many moving parts. It's just easier to farm stuff with Sorc.

You can always use War Travelers as a boots. By my calculations, War Travelers + one max dmg GC is roughly as strong as Gore Rider's with Gheed. I used WT pretty much all my career on a barb. With it + Enigma = already ~145 MF. 2 more SC's and I guess you are awesome in MF department. So, I'd definitely go with WT + strongest ED% jewel in Arreat's + warcry skiller in inventory. Net result is slightly lower MF, slightly stronger DPS and slightly faster running (due to not using BC every run to have 56% IF).

Did the last 30 minutes with Barb for a change. Not very efficient, run in this video is about 1m30s. Gear is OK I think. Maybe I shouldn't use the stair case trick, no?


Referring to my awesome video above (which to be honest, I'm a bit disappointed almost nobody found it funny among the super efficient videos in this thread :)), it can be seen that I second that type of Jewel in Arreat's. And make very efficient use of it. ;)

@Gripphon I was already using War Travelers, I figured they benefit me more than Gores in the long run. Those and Enigma puts me at 141 MF which I'm gonna be ok with for now, since I don't really want to switch any of my SCs.

It also looks like all my decent rare jewels with ed and ed to demons have either +dmg or cold dmg, making them useless for this purpose. For now, I decided to go with 40ed/9str jool. Pure damage, but then, that was pretty much the point. Good thing is, I had a sweet Warcry skiller with +39 life, so that helps a bit, survival-wise.

@ffs That is a fun video for sure, but also very confusing. Like, why waste perfectly good rubies for rerolling a Wire Fleece?:p

Second set is done. Last ~1300 runs were a black hole in which I found only 1 qualifier, so that kinda ruined my set in qualifiers part. I ran with dumping all items from inventory directly to gomule, so I have precise number of things farmed for the whole set. Up until this point I didn't check what I found, so even when writing this I still don't know did I farm the fortune or nothing.

As for total playing time, ignore it. Last time it was off by 2 hours (showing 22 hours), now it is off only by 6 minutes due to my clever handling with runcounter. Avg.time * number of runs reveals my real playing time to be 3 seconds off the 20 hours mark. I could share method on how to hande runcounter and what its weaknesses are (total playing time is one of those).
