Re: 1.13 Public Test Realm online!
I've found a new way to express my excitement about the rune drops I've beem expereincing with a character who is leveling through Nightmare Difficiulty:
Amn has become the new El. Lower runes do drop, but they are infrequent. Most drops are Amn and higher.
And it takes 59,000 Els to cube an Amn.
13.b is not just a matter of Zods dropping 16X more frequently. Cubing high runes should be much easier as well.
Let's do the math:
3^10 = 59,049
There are ten jumps from El->Amn, and ten jumps from Amn->Pul, so it takes the same 59K to go from one to the other. How many is 59K? Well, if you got one rune per second, it would take 16.4 hours to accumulate enough runes. That's not counting the time it takes to use the horadric cube over 60,000 times, or the time taken to stash everything. Or the number of gems of specific types required for the horadric cube recipes.
We need:
3^9 = 19,683 chipped amethysts
3^8 = 6,561 chipped sapphires
3^7 = 2,187 chipped rubies
3^6 = 729 chipped emeralds
3^5 = 243 chipped diamonds
3^4 = 81 flawed topaz
3^3 = 27 flawed amethysts
3^2 = 9 flawed sapphires
3^1 = 3 flawed rubies
3^0 = 1 flawed emerald
If we assume that it takes 1 second to find each Amn, 1 second to find each chipped/flawed gem of whichever type we want, and 1 second to use the horadric cube with any given recipe, then the total time taken will be:
(amns: ) 3^10 +
(gems: ) 3^9 + 3^8 + ... + 3^0 +
(cube: ) 3^9 + 3^8 + 3^7 + ... + 3^0
= 3^10 + 2*( 3^9 + ... + 3^0 ) = 59,049 + 2*( 19,683 + 6,561 + 2,187 +
729 + 243 + 81 + 27 + 9 + 3 + 1 ) = 118,097 seconds = 32.8 hours
And that's not to cube up a Zod, or even a lower HR. That's to cube up one Pul, assuming an obscenely high drop rate for both chipped gems and runes, that you're very very quick with the horadric cube, and that storing tens of thousands of runes and chipped gems never ever presents a storage problem of any kind.
There are 6 jumps from Pul->Vex, and it only takes 2 runes for the recipes above Pul, so there are 2^6 = 64 Pul runes needed to make a Vex. Using our extremely optimistic estimate, it would take 64*32.8 = 2,099.5 hours = 87.48 days to cube up a Vex.
There are 12 jumps from Pul->Zod, so it takes 2^12 = 4,096 Pul runes to make a Zod. Using our optimistic estimate again, it would take 4,096*32.8 = 134,348.8 hours = 5,597.8 days = 15.32 years.
To sum up:
Using unrealistically optimistic estimates, without sleeping, or breaks of any kind, it would take:
32.8 hours to cube up a Pul
87.48 days to cube up a Vex
15.32 years (without breaks or sleep) to cube up a Zod
So, technically, you're right, it is now much, much easier to cube up a Zod. 59,000 times easier. It's still not gonna happen.
