The Untwinked Level 99 Progress Thread, Revenge of the 99ers

@ffs yea I had been thinking about Phoenix but didn't try it because a) my amulet + nature's gave me 11+24 PDR, which is lovely down there and b) while I know how significant -res can be against barely broken immune, I never calculated it myself (that is some huge difference!)

Well, now I tested it very briefly and boy does the broken FI Nihla drop quickly now. And Redemption is like hittig a full rejuv before teleing to pick drops!

I'm almost sure I'll keep this setup now! (And I get to use my 2/20 amulet again!). Let's see what 10FCR ring fits the best now (I still don't have any particularly jaw dropping ones, but I think any high life + adds will do).

Thanks for the heads up! I'll time my exp/h during the next week :)


EDIT: @T72on1 grats for the DF! But that ilvl eth ToI is truly special. Ouch, I wonder what are the odds agaist Tyrael's for example ;)

Afternoon!

It's been a busy end of year this side of the world (here's to all of you having a quality loot-filled 2018, by the way :) ), so Xul's taking it slow. He's reached his retired predecessor to lvl 60; no major finds so far, other than a pretty sweet Steeldriver this afternoon (nearly perfect, 248% ED). Until I have a better use for it, it'll crush rebel skeletons into bone powder. Gotta keep 'em on the line...

Pure is 76 and running pits. Cleared Hell Andy and did the book quest in Act 2. Going to run Pits for some levels but will push into act 4 today. Figure I better go ahead and Guardian before I get myself killed in pits.

Pure is 86 and running pits. He's finished questing and received Guardian last night. Hell baal dropped nothing worthwhile. I think I took a screenshot just to have but it wasn't pretty.

Here is my gear layout (from what I can remember)
Helm: 48MF Bone Skull --> Unsocketed Shako I nabbed last night
Amulet: +MF Amulet
Body Armor: Smoke
Gloves: Chance Guards 32%MF
Boots: Rares with resists/mf
Rings: rares with resists/mf
Belt: Rare with resists/mf
Weapon: Carrion Shard. However, I did find a unique tomb wand last night. Not sure if I'm going to use it. Can't remember how I felt about the CTC Bone Prison.

Charms: Negligible. I haven't found anything of worth yet.
Merc: Battle Scythe Insight (until I can get something better), rare armor and rare helm.

Believe it or not there haven't been any close calls. I'm running pits repeatedly on /p 1. I'll probably keep him at pits until his gear choices severely improve. Once he's geared up as far as MF/Safety go, I'll change from Pits to WSK/Baal.

Guardian#1 of 2018, with a total of 2 Guardians so far in 2018. I Guardianed a Blizz Sork a few nights ago but that's nothing special.

What's up guys, not much running at the moment it seems!? I've tried to keep the XP bar moving and HelpYourself is edging forward, close to 20% now. Some stuff to report on, but will follow the tradition of bigger updates every 25%. That will be hopefully this weekend, unless @T72on1's TC3 tournament gets in the way. :)

@MizzouFTW Cool, I like the Carin Shard that's a neat drop for a Fishymancer. Stay safe!
 
That reminds me I need to update the table. Pure died at about 4:48 this morning. Walked into Pit Level 2, moved down a couple of yards and tiny lines of death hit him. It was a stupid mistake my mistake nonetheless. I'll update the table tonight when I'm home.

I'm still running ffs :). Not that much, but slowly progressing. Currently at 3.321M.

Compared to last post, I did away with the cube in my inventory again. I just couldn't get used to it and was losing too much time picking things up. So I removed the cube and 4 SC, to get my old and trusted 4x2 free space again. Due to this change I was down to 2600 life, so still 200 more than I used to be running with. A move which I was so thankful for when this happened:

Indeed, way way too close. But I lived to tell the tale :).

Before that I had a run with a close call when teleporting into a cloud of the Vipers, but 'close' still means some 400 hitpoints or so. I also had another eth TC3 drop:

Then yesterday I had a very good run, with

next to another Shako, Crown of Thieves, -3/+5 poison facet and Ravenfrost in some 15 minutes, and a @23 Mara's later that day.

So that's Death's Web, Death's Fathom, Ghostflame, Ravenlore and Shako, some 71 points, in less than the duration of an MFO. Much more than the numerous runs I did with my much more efficient PitBarb in a much more efficient setting. Gotta love D2 drop gods !!!

but had some issues with my computer, which caused a minor setback, enough for this jewel to be gone forever.

So all in all good progress, good drops, only hoping for the rune drops to improve, since I haven't gotten anything above Ko after the dual Um runes in my latest big update.

Neverland will probably be on a break for some 2 weeks now, as my time will mainly go to the TC3 hunting tournament, and I don't expect I will have much more than the 15 hours for that in the next 2 weeks.
 
@T72on1 Nice, glad to see you getting drops like that, seems your bad luck in recent tournaments is being made up for big time. :) I've had similar close calls like that, and let's just say not all of them ended well ;) (luckily no major catastrophe as that Delirium bug crash recently).

@MizzouFTW Ah sorry to hear that. I assume those tiny lines of death are referring to arrows? :) Those Archers in Pits are really quite annoying. Their attack rating is bugged and in fact twice as high as it should be IIRC. Any Fana/Might/Cursed pack can be extremely nasty because of that, even more so without stuff like CtA... But as @T72on1 said it was still a great run and quick progress, hope you'll join with a new character and do this again!

I'll enter another character this weekend. Have to decide what I want to make. Yep! Arrows did the deed. No biggie. He was purely for fun and I didn't expect to get to 99 with him. I'll have to put some thought into what I want to build for the next go.

I don't agree. Amp was on, but I decided to stay around, even though Vipers and Amp should mean immediate exit. Next to this one it has been very safe running. In HC I would also increase my hitpoints more and include more PDR.

So in my opinion Nihl running is definitely doable in HC once you know what you are doing. It's just that in SC sometimes greed (in this case xp greed) takes over too much.
 
My concerns would along the lines of a) Death is most likely when setting up and getting used to the build and b) If you mess up during a CS or Baal run, its recoverable generally, Nhilathak is more likely to end badly. Doable is not the same as good, but I may have been a little harsh on ol' Nhilathak :cool: I will concede to your significantly greater experience with the old guy :p
 
Well from my limited experience I would definitely not run Nihl in HC and stick with Baal or CS. :) But I agree, run safety improves greatly over time and with more practice. So maybe it's indeed doable, but I imagine I would be way too uncomfortable with the risk for HC chars still.
