First rule of the bar is you have to read every single post of the bar. It got nutty around 2012 when the spam was at full tilt.

Heh, just realised I'm playing Steam's Magic Duels, not Magic Arena, even though I've been calling it Arena. XD
I looked at both, and I honestly like the older styled, simplistic Magic visuals, rather than the (my personal taste) cartoony/animated Heathstone-styled graphics. It seems Arena (Arena) is more honed in on the rulesets and infinite cards.

eh I don't think Arena is really that cartoony - definitely not to the extent of hearthstone. It's generally the exact same art as the physical cards albeit with some animations on legendary cards.

Duels it pretty dead from what I understand and I don't think you can play draft on there either?

Cat o'nine tails ye say? I suddenly feel naughty! But I apparently have quite some posts to read through first - I guess that's what happens when you show up late to a party! Good thing I brought my wallet, I will need plenty o' drinks to get through all these posts.

My initial waypoint was nothing you lads will have ever heard of - a country far far away named Denmark. Things are disconcerting there, for example our cats only have a single tail!

Welcome. The history of this bar is the most amazing thing about this place. And we still have Durfs card anyways....
 
He doesn't realise we have copies of his card and copies of those copies and then some more copies and the real card is 'lost' but it will turn up whenever we need new copies.

Sorry @MadsRJ I forgot to warn you about the old folks that will try to get you of their lawn while there is no lawn in sight, they will also occasionally kick your shins. The ones to look out for are @TheNix and @kestegs.
No one really has a clue how old Oldstegs is but there is a theory he caused the big bang and is the cause of everything.
Another one to look out for is @Leopold Stotch she loves the cat o' nine tails and she is a wild one.
We hope the penguin she married can calm her down some.
For the moment he has succeded in keeping her away from the bar, he planted some seeds and she is now growing a new addition to the family.
Occasionally she can be found in the Noodle House.
 
Back to Magic.
There is something about the RNG/player base that is incredibly ... /interesting/...

I find games are pretty common most evenings my time, while if I'm home during the day, I generally couldn't find a match. All fine since evenings are a lot better here.
But, in the evenings when I do play, there is something very unusual about the RNG. I play my normal decks, either Red/Black or Blue now. But the decks I verse, even if the player name is different, share way too many common themes. Tonight, after a couple nights break, I play 3 different players. ALL three are a combination of White, Green and Black, and ALL 3 play the exact same card.
Coincidence? This isn't a one off, and I know the human brain likes to pick patterns. I know on every other night, the decks I face are also very predictable; they follow the same patterns. One night, I verse more Red, Red/Black, Red/multi decks, and the CARDS themselves are the same. Tonight, the multi Black/Green(with White) decks, all played the exact same card, from three different user names. No Blue mill decks, no Red burn decks, no Zombie Blacks, no White Angels - all three games, all three opponent decks, have been focused around the exact same deck. I've actually been beaten three games in a row, by three different players, playing the same deck and winning via the same card.
And this has been replicated every night that I've played. The decks from night to night vary, but each night, it's a certain style of deck that is repeated...
 
The disconnect, as far as I can tell, comes from this all happening on different OT threads... like, there's actually still spammy threads sprinkled through the forums besides this one. You should check them out, then come back and tells us of your adventures.

as I say that it occurs to me I haven't posted in those threads... hell, I may not have since I got zapped, so effectively haven't...

That's not unusual - normally there is a metagame of sorts and therefore some specific decks that people will play. I don't really know much about Duels as I believe it is no longer supported as Arena is the new version.
 
That does sound possible. Maybe there are some more active community working on decks/games, and trying out meta-decks to skew the types of decks I've come across.

As to Magic Arena not being cartoony. I stand by my comment. A comical voice that sounds like it is from an anime dub, Avatar:TLA, or Path of Exile, which tries to teach me how to cast a land, with a Forest backdrop, birds tweeting in the background, and an over the top card draw animation. It looks like Hearthstone to me. I'm not a fan of the over the top background, need for a voice tutor, spirit guide, need to draw out the card in a strange arc (you could just flip out the card and zoom to identify it,) card Tap animation being for-front (cards approach the player, run an animation, and then tap) to indicate you've played a card, the fact that the card has to physically move and attack with HIT/SOUND the target to do damage.
Will I get used to it? If it's more active and can get some good games, yes. But it's... I don't want to offend, but visually, cartoonly, animatedly, it's sickening to my taste.
MtG is simplistic in design, but incredibly detailed and thorough; the greatest draw coming from the intricacy of the rules and card interactions - the more you learn about it, the more there is to create synergies between the cards.

I know this is the tutorial, but... this isn't story mode, this isn't multiplayer. This is the very first time I've run it, and it's... It's Hearthstone with the cartoony graphics, audio and dialogue.
It's Magic, wrapped up in a cartoon. (The Card design/animation is fine. It's the added animations, sounds, cartoons, backgrounds, voices that detract (or not) from the intricate Magic Card Game.)

Yeah the tutorial sucks - I guess I can understand why you might find it a little over the top. Once you get into the actual multi-player though it's nothing like that. At least I barely notice it and I am not a fan of catoony style stuff.
 
Damn... I know I never have cared for the more over-the-top bits of Hearthstone, or the sounds/animations that you just cannot turn off, but never realized so many people thought it was THAT bad... maybe you just have to have played WoW to really appreciate it. It's really kind of a big running joke at this point. And now that I think about it, most of the people I know who play Hearthstone, played WoW....

(NOTE: not an endorsement... the whole meta is kinda borked right now... like, they got tired of trying to balance properly, so they just made everything OP and crazy. Hard to believe of a Blizzard product, I know...)

Oh I played Hearthstone for a long time - started in the beta. Stopped when Arena was released as I always preferred MTG over hearthstone - just didn't really like MTGO that much.
 
It’s a card game similar to magic but online. I haven’t played it either but it’s listed in my games from battlenet.

It's a little too busy but perhaps some style changes are forthcoming.

I like change though, especially when that means I get all kinds of new toys to potentially blow up the forums with. :D
