Patch 2.5 PTR Announced - Terror Zones

99 is going to be a joke, especially in SP with /players8 command. It will be extremely fast in comparison to D2L or D2R right now. E.g. the fastest 98-99 being Nihlathak means killing one lvl 95 monster in what usually takes some 30 seconds for most builds.

Now imagine characters like Java or CE Necro plowing through the Pit, killing 100+ lvl 96-99 monsters per minute on P8... seems about right.

I'm not sure MF implications are positive either. I guess the credo will be to just adjust your typical MF Barb so that he can run more targets, i.e. putting on some resists and maybe go for some hybrid Berserk/Conc build or something. But I'm mostly afraid that boring all-purpose builds such as Hammerdin will become the norm again, characters that can run 99% of areas in the game. It will be an easy way to get something out of this mechanic and I wouldn't be surprised if many players will just go for these builds for MF, rather than building characters for specific targets.

It doesn't exactly foster build diversity.

Re loot filters I'm not sure why we need them tbh. D2 isn't PoE where loot filters are absolutely 100% required. @Excalibur mentioned cows which on P7 can become cluttered indeed, but it's managable via positioning or running on P5 which is generally just as good or better than P7 anyway. Otherwise there's no target in the game where there's "too much loot" IMO. The only other case used to be Travincal when running with WW/hork Barb, but gold auto pickup fixes that pretty much.

For a player that litteraly tries to save every possible second from his runs you are very lenient with this issue. @ffs 😮

I don't really care about a Loot filter, all I care about is to see all items on the ground. As I mentioned above a hotkey that simply doesn't show white items would be more than enough and possibly require less than 5 minutes for the developers to implement.
Whether it's managable or not by positioning or auto-picking gold it will never be better than a poor loot filter.

:D yeah I get it would be "nice to have", but this is what a game looks like when it's "needed". ;)
I'm glad I didn't let myself get sucked into POE. I think I got to like level 7 before the aesthetics killed it for me.

I spent about 30 minutes or so on the PTR (including the weirdly geared javazon...no mana leech?) and the mobs didn't seem any harder to kill. With a caster, it seems that the only difference was that you get more XP. What's the point exactly? Just faster leveling?

Edit: wellllllll, you would get more GCs for rerolling, I guess, and have more chances at TC87. Nevermind me, then. You can still boo, I suppose.

By the way, has anyone else encountered an issue where system keys (alt, windows key for example) stop working after launching D2R? Even after D2R is closed again. I have to restart the system if I want them to work again. Can't remember this being the case before.

Hey all - Apologies for the silence on the PTR front. But wanted to provide a few updates here.

The team was spending the last week going through the survey information and community reports from PTR. There may be another iteration of PTR as the team wants to implement some items based off of the feedback but that is still being determined. We are running up against some scheduling timelines and want to make sure we can get 2.5 out the door sooner rather than later and get Season 2 kicked off for ladder. Extending PTR to continue to test and iterate will of course hold those two dates back. We are going to see if we can fit something in the existing timeline for right now, but if we can’t we may use some of the buffer between Patch 2.5 hitting and Season 2 starting to ensure we can get some additional game time from players on some of the Terror Zone items.

Some top level items from the feedback:

  • Players were noticing some zones were kind of not great for Terror Zones so expect some to be moved out and some others be moved in.
  • Players found some of the TZ content to be easy but we also can determine what characters played on PTR who offered that specific feedback and we noticed a lot of this came from Hammerdin players. The team has some ideas on this and we will be sharing that soon. I expect it to create a bit of a shift in build/class opportunities for players.
  • We will have more info on unlock conditions for TZ and how long each zone will be terrorized as well. We appreciate those who offered their thoughts on this.
  • Lastly, I know there were a lot of voices wanting this in SP. I can say that it is being looked into but for now, I would expect this to be a Ladder S2 feature as we are able to make tweaks to online numbers on the fly while SP has diff values for XP and needs to be tuned differently. The desire is high, but we want to get this nailed down for ladder play first and will move into looking at it for offline afterwards.
Lastly, I wanted to clear up on the S2 timing as there is a bunch of confusion on this and honestly it is 100% understandable why there is confusion. Before S1 began, we had noted that we were aiming to have seasons last 4 months. We are obviously past that timeline and to be 100% honest, we kind of didn’t plan very well on our end for that date. Terror Zones was a cool feature we wanted to nail correctly as it teetered back and forth on the line of “Should we do this or not?” many times throughout development and with that it caused a little bit of a delay on the Season transition. I just wanted to state that and apologize for that murkiness around when that season transition would occur. We are looking at mitigating this issue for future seasons in D2R.

The current order of operation is that we will end PTR here soon and start submission for final builds on 2.5 and get out that to everyone on the live environment. Season 1 to Season 2 will happen fairly immediately. We expect S2 to start a week or two after 2.5 hits so we have a date that everyone is aligned on and knows about. S1 will literally end the second we transition to S2.

For example: Season 1 will go to 4:59:59pm Pacific Time and Season 2 will begin at 5:00:00pm Pacific Time.

As more dates become aligned here in the coming week, we will provide updates to give a better window on 2.5 and S2 for the community.

An update from PezRadar today.

Not even a loot filter can save this.
Now you're making me sad for how PoE ended up. It was the first ARPG that had real promise since D2, but you aren't kidding - it probably has the worst itemization and loot system of any game I've ever played at this point.

When will they do a battle pass? Because it isn’t feeling like Diablo 2.

Every build does not need to be viable. This is not Last Epoch, Diablo 3, Van Helsing, or PoE.
It is fine that wave 2 was hard for hammerdin. Heaven forbid they have an alternative skill.
