Wolfbarbs-The ultimate guide (Revised verson)

This wolfbaba was made a long time ago so haven't had time for changes. My wolfbaba is using 1301 dusk enigma and the most AR i can get with it is around 28k, but never had to unless against barbs/pallys. My friend is using a breast plate enigma hence his very high life, but his is meant for casters and less melee, but it can still kill a zealer.
 
Also, how did u both get so many pts. in Vit? My current ladder wolf is lvl 84 w/ 198str, 181dex, and 266 Vit. That lvl 90 wolf had over 500...how in the ****?
 
we both went with very minimal amounts dex/str points. ill try and post an image of with and without gear.

Enigma for base strength

enough dexterity for max blocking after ALL bonuses

rest in vitality
 
:D sup guys..well ive been throughly testing my PVP wolf barb..and yes zero grizz caddy is best..though i have a few questions at the bottom...

let see my ratio of win loss (against a lvl 87 SS with ebotd Tmaul - my cousin :D )

with azurewrath: 2-6
with griz caddy (3os shaeled): 5-0

using same strategies....

havent had to many problems with sorcs (fire, lighting)

had problems with ww barbs
had problems with trapsin with nigma
had problems with pallys with def around 20-25k (this one was a smiter)

still have to try javazons, bowazons, cold sorc, bone nec...etc

in any case i just wanted to report that the griz caddy is most defintely the best for locking....

i did a few questions:

my general stats are after buffing

15k AR feral rage
22k def
4.4k life

i have maxed shout, iron skin, mace mastery, b orders, i still have a few skill points left what should i put these into? Faster run walk...natural res?

i also have a few stat pts (80 or so) my current stats are rougly 195 str, 160ish dex, 300 ish vitality...this is with equipment should i spend the remainder on more health? or more dex for blocking? (im using stormshield)

lastly is cleglaws gloves a good pvp tool or should i stick to draculs?

Well you hit points are definatly low from what I see, you should be aiming for at least 5.5k. Your attack rating seems low too, normally players do well with a 20-25k rating, but all this dependant on your gear. If you can, I'de like to see your equipment and what you have for charms. Now normally, you would have a tough time versus casters if you do not have the right stuff, since they use elemental your shield is of no use unless it provides a real good purpose. Even then if the teleport you have alot of chasing and tricking around to do, never attack in a straight path and damage reduction isn't really important. Whirlwind, tough one to beat but that requires more of your own way of defeating it, I always walk and play the defensive, damage over time attacks are a good way of dealing with them like open wounds and poison, sometimes you can slow them with cold if theyr'e not wearing cannot be frozen. If you fight a Whirlwind cannot be frozen should not be a big facotr on your part but I stress damage reduction alot. Smite, well sorry to have to say this, near imposible. They will always hit, stun, and hurt alot especaily if they get a Life Tap on you. I've fough them many times and often lost. As for the Zealers it requires top gear to beat top gear, and I never really had a problem fighting them since about 60% of the time I would win.

Now your stats. Be sure your blocking is always 75% this is important if you plan to fight alot of melee or Amazons. If you can carry everything leave strength alone, energy is pointless for us, so yes put the remains to vitality.

WW Vs C

well from what i ve experienced so far wwolf vs melee (wwind barbs ,smiters ... generaly high defence , high block ,hard hitting , High faster hit recovery foes) don't do very well (to say the least). Because of no cast - we have hard time against expert teleporters - near impossible to catch'em.

So lets try to orient ourselves against targets we actualy have more of a fight chace . So that leaves as in BVC territory. Only we DON'T have tele, leap , double wiled whirlwind ... and that a lot. What we have gainst clasic tele BVC : More life,beter FHR,better run/walk speed , and hmm - 4 frames crappy damage caducelus atack. Both builds have AR problems. From what i see here it would seem that classic BVC is far superior on the Vs caster role in general and superiot Vs us in particular. That beeig said for the sake of lets diversity lets give WWolf Vs C a try.

General issues/strategy:(regading Vs casters - we would not fight hopeless battles against anybody else so we sould better optimeze ourselfes for what we do best )

Our strengths:

First thing first - Life is everyting - use every thing in your power to increase your life by any and every means posible.(read rest of this huge thread for ways to achieve that).
So we have huge life. But just having huge life aint everything .That life would go down in 2 or 3 hits before your shoked eyes from that the very casters are aimed to destroy. We need to make the most of this huge life that is make it last - Maxed rezists + one legit absorb + slacked rezist on top of that . Your huge life is USELESS if it goes down in 2 or three hits. If you have sacrifice some life to achive elemntal resilience do so. Try to add some DR on top of that as some casters cn deliver seroius physical damage. And against magical damage drop the rezists and stockpile life.
High block: is always good but i think for this build using that extra DEX points for extra life would wield more rewards. That means that we only use shield or an extra weapon on the second hand only for the extra mods on it.
Defence: same as for block - good to have but other things came first (for this build).
So minimum str,dex - all you can towards vit . This will affect the echipment we could use.
FHR - we need 86 FHR - this one of the few avantages we have (3 frames FHR) and we mut make full use of it.
RunWalk spd - well increased sped + ww form add to our run speed. However since we cannot teleport (or charge)after our targets there would be fight we would lose because we re nor running fast enough :(.Try to increase this us much as posible without compromising life ,rez ,FHR ,DR , damage ,OW (tough :( ). Also beeig frozen or decreped severily limits our mobility so Cannot be frozen iz a must. Unfortunaly we cannot have fade or cleansing to shug of curses(decrep.) see weapon selection (last wish in off hand).
AR : use demon limb , use metalgrid , try to have at least 10k AR

A short list of offhand options.
Note (the off hand would not attack so ed ,damage, cast on stiking , leech,ias are irrelevant mod for it ).

Lastwish :
Might aura nice bonus dam.
60%-70% CBlow nice also VS high life opponents
6% to cast fade when struck (nice way to get rid of all those nasty curses + all rez + dam red ) low chance thow and not even shure it triggers on offhand

Doom:
Slows enemy - catch them if they dont have tele + makes them recover and block + swing slower witch combined with 4 fps caducelus atack might just freeze them into place.

Fury OW,DS- DS kindda useless considering our low damage - condider Malice cheap 100% efective OW .

Beast CB,OW,+3 Lycantropy,+STR

GRIEF SOMEBODY PLZ TELL ME THAT OF GRIEF OFFHAND ADDS TO THE CADUECELUS DAMAGE JUST LIKE THE + FROM WarTravelers does !!! hmm. I will test this tonigth . stay tunned. Shoudnt work thow - how bot Wwind dualwielding griefs :D. :((. Still im gonna try .

Oath +15 Magic Absorb add more items like this and gain imunity to teeth, and hopefuly reduce BSpirit//spear damage by 1/4 ... 1/6 Versus Necro replace rezist equip with lot of magi abs - Gadiator bane // nagel ring // ..


Spirit (sword (lower req than Monarh Spirit ) ) - FRH ,Mana(mana is useless to us) .Some rez

Silence 75 rez all , 20 FHR ,2 all skills

Uniques

Cold Steel OW,Slow

Crainte Vomir DR,Slow,FRunwalk

HeadStriker - 100% DS for Caducelus

(hmm do DS from the 2 weapons slack ?! , OW , CB ,AR )

AzureWrath - some magic damage

DoomBringer + 20% life ,AR bonus

FleshRipper OW,CB,Slow,DS (mean knife)

Razor's Edge DS,OW

WizardSpike + 15 rez all - massive 90 rez all

NordsTenderiser - Substantial AR bonus + some cold damage.

GlimerShred - Adds some elemtal damage - opponet would have maxed rezists and negate this easly .(however if u re certaint it s not the case go for it)

Some Knolegeble dude should post what efeects from the offhand of the w wolf barb work and witch dont. I ' m pretty certain many of the ones listed berfore won t work :(. I ll do some testing myself.


Combat strategy :

Become as resistant to the enemy as possible ,without exceding BM limits (2 absobs, ..) , use best precast avail ,USE SORT NAME FOR YOU CHAR . For example if u name him IJ,II. This is Pshihological warfare.The enemy will not hardly see your life bar moving after he hits you so he cannot estimate how much damage he s dooing to you. The longer you life bar (your name) the more accurate will the enemy see how much (or less ) he is affecting you.With short name , huge life , and damage rezistance - you will apear immune for the first couple of hits , unslowable, 3 fps FHR - Just a big pissed
off wolf who keeps comming for you at alarming run speed. Might lower their confidence a bit .
 
done some testing :
What dont work on second weapon:

OW ,CB , +%AR , +x damage(grief)

However fade on ofhand LastWish triggers !!!

So remaining options for offhand - Doom , LastWish

hey zero...thanks for the advice...but how do i raise my HP by 1000? i think gearwise im all tapped out...and my ar (now that i put 20 skill points into mace mastery is around 17.5k for feral rage) is still under par....

also how do i check what my blocking % is? i know i can check after someone like baal hits me....etc..that way i know how much i should drop into my dex (i have 81 stat pts to work with)

well i should be on sometime tonight maybe i can look you up and you can help me out with some more streamlining advice =)

Well alot of things factor in increasing life, like your prebuff gear, normal gear, chrms, vitality and so on. You can always check our blocking precent by putting your cursor over your defense, it will show. Sure I have recently reinstalled Diablo 2 so we will meet.

couple of questions:

1. should i put 2 shaels and (15ias+55ar and 15ias 10 max) jewels in gris caddy or go for all 4 shaels.

2. whats better barb mastery gcs or frw/dmg/ar gcs.
i have some like 7frw/9max/66ar gc and 4frw/6max/38ar
i also have gcs like 80-100ar + 35 life.

3.i was thinking to put 10* 20life plain sc(i cant afford scs
with ar or dmg) or should go for some not so perfect ar/dmg/life lc and sc.

4. i was thinking to put a 7fhr/5ed/55ar/33def jewel in wolfhowl or valor or should i go for something else.cant afford runes above ist.

5. what about using blackoak agains cold sorcer instead of
SS?
pls help.
 
asort your gcs until you seem to get the "best" outcome. i prefer ar/life/max gcs over mastery gcs. blackoak is very good for cold absorb, but im not sure how that applies after a sorc's cold mastery totally negates your cold resist. Two Raven Frosts might work well also, leaving you to use the SS. Valor isnt my choice of armor for a wolfbaba because of its "high" str. requirement, but you should try to make a Duress runeword in a dusk armor or archon...its relatively cheap and perfect for this build.
 
im very much confused between

STONE build=stone+wartrav+dracul
VALOR+2 build=valor+2 + steelrend + upped gore
these 2 builds.

if someone has tested both these pls advice which one
performs better.
 
also i was thinking of replacing verdungu with a rare
50-60+life with 20+strength belt

that could save some skill points....
 
why my life is so less ?

i have base life of 1807

battle order lvl26=118% inc in life=2132

warewolf lvl10 with 90% inc in life =1626

shouldnt be my full life be 1807+2132+1626=5565

but its only 4997

can somebody explain why.
