Hi all. I am new in this forum but I wanted to start this challenge so for that reason I registered. I discovered this challenge through streamings of @Bewitch and I have all configured to run(gomule and txt ladder rw), indeed I am running my first character wich I am recording to write journal and snapshot some images I hope record all journey to getting registered those gg drops at least I will try to do it, when I finish my gameplay today I will start my journal through here. First must be said i havent setted any extrarule i just want to have fun and reach as max as possible, hopefullu i have enough motivation to do 99, by the way, I always wanted to be 99 in this game and i think Single Player is best mode because if your character is powerful you can handle players 7-8 not sharing experience, so this is the time for ZoiS, a sacred paladin wich calls the nature of greatness and destroy diablo (multiple times)

Welcome to the new and returning entrants in this challenge! It’s very nice to see things continue to remain active, as it’s great to have company in this sort of journey. Speaking of which . . .
Septimus reached level 90, where he’s likely to stay for a while. We left off in his last update (and first here after he reached Patriarch in the Overburdened tourney) at level 87, with the focus on LK. The thought was that he might transition back to leveling at Pindle if he found runes for HotO, which is exactly what happened.
He had found 100 runes from LK in last update and continued to 250 runes found, netting Mal #2, Mal #3, Gul #2, and Gul #3. The second Gul allowed Heart of the Oak, with the third joining the two Surs in the stash and still a third of the way to Enigma:

He then returned to Pindle, with the weapon upgrade allowing p7 runs with the lower resist wand, and some occasional AT runs given the nice WP location. That made for solid XP gain, with useful drops being Crown of Thieves to finally have nice life leech in the helm to pair with Lionheart for the merc, Lidless from AT allowing extra power from shield (and dropping 3 pDiamond shield with resists from HotO), and Duriel’s toward the end for CBF and alternative to Lionheart. There was also an IK armor mixed in, and finally having a base for Rhyme for extra MF on the Pindle runs. I think he had ~350MF for runs once he filled out a 3s mask with pTopzes and built the Rhyme.

He’s now back in LK, with the goal to mix in small batches when needing a break from Nihl runs with Quinta and not feeling up for Baal runs with Death, and not being focused enough to risk progressing my Three Way Dance characters in HC. So it will be pretty limited, and I think I am feeling the cumulative effects of LK runs, as completing a 25-rune set yesterday got a bit slog-y
I think that also foreshadows the likelihood that we will respec to a Windy for leveling. Infinity is really necessary for fire Druid to progress with any modicum of speed on XP. There aren’t other reasonable targets beyond AT and Pindle, and I don’t think Enigma on its own will make AT realistic for leveling in the mid-90s. Mad props to @Pb_pal for sticking with fire on Klaus (and the whole untwinked HC 99er thing), but I don’t think Septimus will fulfill his namesake if that much LK is in his future at this stage .
Quinta has resumed her progress, and I’m hopeful she will finish her journey before year’s end, with a stretch goal of also pushing Death to 96 before she pings. Keep up the progress everyone!

You could try turning off bb code when fiddling with tables. That solved my table alignment issues, though not copy-paste related so I might be wrong in your case.

I can’t imagine how tired of LK runs you must be by now, esp knowing that’s ahead. How many LK runs deep are you on Septimus, approx? I keep sneaking in extra LK runs on Stamina in excess of my daily goal, but I can’t imagine that enthusiasm lasting for too long
What armor are you wearing for LK running? IIRC there is a speed penalty for wearing splint mail type armor. IDK how much of a difference that makes in the end when calculating total frw from your gear and after vigor aura. Just a thought

The second Sur from the poppable has him well ahead of expectations at this stage, but as we know, these things even out and he's still looking at ~4000 estimated LK to complete Enigma.
As for armor, he had Skullders in that screenshot because he had limited options at that point. I thought about Stealth but didn't have 2os armor and didn't feel like searching, and he had plenty of FRW from boots, helm, SCs and Harmony to make up for the penalty. So when a 2os finally dropped I didn't both with Stealth. He's wearing Duriel's now for added safety!

No drops worth of mentioning. Was hoping to get Phase Blade for Grief - but all my attempts in the Cube has failed so far but still I am just at 60% probability to have succeeded.
Special gear I used for the runs:
- Tgods belt (those nasty lightning mages can't be drained from health so I choose this belt to negate their damage as much as possible)
- Ghoulhide (extra damage and AR against undeads which there are plenty of in those old tunnels)
on merc:
- Blackhorns face (similar argument as with Tgods - it helped him quite well)

Ok I'm ready for some technical discussion on how to gear up for nilly for 98-99 as a sorc.
First off I do NOT have griffons and DO have phoenix. I was thinking this would lead me to want to go fire, but you know me, I like to really dig in and see if I think that's true. Plus I know @PhineasB went light sorc without griffons and I THINK @Yng at least began nihla without griffons, but might be wrong on that. Anyways I also have 6 light skillers and 4 fire skillers. So i wanted to see if that would sway the balance at all.
1. Fire vs Lightning
I made THIS SHEET to evaluate the issue, and while flawed, I think its enough to show that they are essentially the same efficiency for the gear I have available. You can see the setup i was considering in the top left for both. Also I found THIS post from @NanoMist discussing nihlathaks probability to roll different modifiers. I think he should have 12 modifiers to choose from (14 minus poison enchanted and multi shot), but please tell me if I'm wrong, that would influence my numbers for sure.
So if they are the same efficiency, I am leaning toward fire because:
If anyone has other points on this or other reasoning the pros and cons of lightning vs fire or thinks I messed something up or failed to consider something in my efficiency calc, please let me know.
2. Fire gear
For now lets pretend I'm going fire, though again I'd love discussion on which is better. I'm having trouble figuring out exactly what i want for the runs. The main issue is how to balance fhr, fire res, and integer DR. My merc will be using a thresher infinity, so CE is more of a possibility than if I'd used a scythe, but ofc phoenix helps a tad with that. I included a CE dmg calculation on that sheet as well.
But anyways the real questions to me are:
1. shael vs sol in vmagi and shako
2. eschutas (3sk, 20% fire sk + 3/3 facet) vs hoto (would require hoto to achieve max fire res if dont use aldurs boots)
3. aldurs vs treks
Anyways just having trouble figuring out what's more important. Don't know the relative risks of CE vs vipers and how much fire res/int dr increases your likelihood of surviving. Also I'd seen a wide range of fhr's used against nihla. If people have strong opinions on that I'd love to hear it. Hope it's not too annoying tagging so many people, but I'd love to stir up some discussion.

- tankier setup (because fewer skillers, maras over caster ammy, redemption from phoenix, though fhr is tough)
- more consistent dmg, so no randomly long times to wait around, increasing chance of death
- better runes potential (I was estimating 4 minions killed per run with lightning and 10 killed from fire from watching @ffs 's and @Bewitch 's youtube videos, in the nihla runes sheet within the file above, you can see that's a difference between 3.9 and 5.3 "expected" vex+ runes+, so yes @Grape 's HAUL seems to be absurd ).

- FHR: note that I have a 12 fhr fire sk. I was thinking of doing shael in shako and in vmagi and then wearing aldurs and using eschutas. Could then use 2 fhr scs to hit 60, or just stay at 42.
- FIRE RES: how big is it really? If you're cursed or something, even 75 vs like 30 fire res isn't a huge difference. But I'm not sure what to expect here really.
- INT DR: will have 11 from nature's. No volcanic amulets of life everlasting or anything . Could also put a sol in armor and helm though for 25 total. Then would have either 14 or 20 fhr with aldurs, or 30 or 42 with treks depending on use of fhr scs.

Hey, i just reuploaded the last million of my sorc on yt cause it was blocked to copyright issus (music). its without sound now, prolly it helps ^^
Well, i cant rly say anything to the CE thing since i had the scythe infi and i think i didnt hav a single CE.
I didnt hav any plain dmg reduction beside the damred from the natures peace itself.
but i did try different fhr caps and rly everything under 60 fhr felt very bad, like rly noticable difference. i didnt hav a fhr skiller so i used sands boots and shael in shako and viper.

@Luhkoh After counting the monster modifiers again- you're right, it is 12. As for the Nihlathak discussion, I'll let others chime in on the Sorceress specific advice. I valued fire res on my Sin, but she's a slower Nihlathak runner compared to a Sorc, so I was hit with CE more often. Fortunately CE from Nihlathak cannot crit, unlike most monster attacks in the game..

@sir_cyclops hey hey havent seen you around here in a while! I have 1 socket quest free. Viper and shako already socketed. But with cheap stuff so i can always hel. Am thinking I'll use the 3rd on eschuta's, but haven't done so yet.
@Bewitch thanks! Your setup is super similar to my most likely one. So you say 60 fhr higher priority than fire res or integer dr. With the possible caveat that I might need to prioritize fire res more than you had to. Thanks!

@Luhkoh my take is that -enemy resistance for your damage element is key for Nihl, mainly because you will likely have to abort more runs without it. For example, I ended up having to bail on breakable LI rolls with Hiatus because it was just too slow; compared to Quinta who only bails for unbreakable LIs, that really impacts the XP/hour.
The issue for Hiatus was lack of Arachnid's making Crescent Moon unworkable to hit FCR, maintain reasonable FHR, vita, and fire resist. When Arachnid's finally dropped just before 98.5, I didn't try to regear due to risk of early mishap, but in retrospect it likely would have sped things up (as I believe @ffs and I discussed later).
Vipermagi, Magefist/Trang, Arachnid, and 35 Spirit get you to 105 FCR, with the massive FHR boost from Spirit. That means needing only a 12+ caster ammy and potentially allowing Nature's Peace and even Dwarf for fire absorb (or 10 FCR ring + any FCR on ammy). Resists may be a challenge, but I'd prioritize maxing fire and Aldur's are a huge help there. With the 6 skillers, I think it will be plenty powerful with CM, with the key of figuring out when to bail when amp'ed because Sorcs aren't as tanky as the other classes. With Phoenix shield, it seems that fire would also be powerful and solid choice.
In terms of other modifiers (and regardless of your element choice), I think FHR is critical, and I'd recommend aiming for the 86 breakpoint (but definitely no less than 60). It made a big difference for Hiatus in terms of safety and smoothness of runs when I switched to 86 FHR part way into the level, if I recall correctly. So I'd prioritize FCR -> fire resist -> FHR -> vita -> iDR. Personally, I haven't found iDR to make that much of a difference, but I've also never had more than Nature's Peace + Sol.

Very clear. This is the exact kind of input I was hoping for. Thanks! I'll definitely go for 60fhr at least. You and bewitch both saying to do so are more than enough to convince me.
Ah i didn't realize you didn't have arachs. I was wondering why you weren't running with crescent moon. That should change the abort rate (due to nihla's res anyways) from like 1.5% to like 16%. Kudos for pushing through on hiatus.
So would you say your input on fire vs lightning is just that easy fhr (from spirit), and the ability to go for 86 instead of 60 is potentially a big point in favor of it? Thanks so much!
After hitting lvl 80, it was very difficult to level anywhere because the merc didn't have life leech and meteor relies on merc doing the tanking. Once I've found a tal's mask, things became a lot easier and I farmed Eldritch to lvl 89. By that time he dropped a Gul, eth 4s thresher and CV and finally a 4 socket monarch. With the new found firepower, things became fun and for no good reason at all, I started running Andy.
I'm not 100 % sure what happened, but I suspect I was just in range of a cold enchanted ghoul boss pack. It was the last run before I planned to go back to Eldritch to reach lvl 90 and then hit LK. God dammit lol!

I took a break from the game shortly after the last RFL Tournament, so not much has happened with VelvetSky. I do notice that my last update here took place a couple months before my break. She reached level 92 and started running LK since then. Had the first Sur drop back in May. I started to do a few more runs with her yesterday and did a couple more today. Got pretty lucky with Sur #2, Sur #3 and Ohm #2. No use for them yet, though, since she has only 1 Ist and no Mal runes. I'm also still undecided on her endgame gear once I respec her into a Lightning Sorc. Currently leaning towards a Crescent Moon + Chains of Honor setup, though. 200 FCR setup would be option 2.

Hello guys!
Update time has come... My barb is half way there after 7k Nihlathak runs. If you are similar with number of runs required for 99, you've probably noticed that 7k is around 300 runs too much for 50% of the lvl. Yes, i died with him on run number 5459. Not proud of this, especially because i went with safety setup, but bad things happen to good people as some say XD Check the clip below if you are interested. All i can say is that i was exhausted after a long week and sometimes my mouse's right button locks itself in a pushed position. This is why it looks like i just walked through vipers' clouds like a suicide man XD
It is not a big loss (around 2 hours and 20 minutes), but the perspective of doing over 13k Nihlathak runs without a single death was super nice. It is history now and i have to keep going though ^^ Have about 45 hours of grinding left. Have to do more runs per day if i want to get there before christmas.
Every update comes with some nice items that i found and this one isn't different. You can see them below as always. The most noticeable ones are: 2nd templar's, 2 wisps (3 total from nihla), 2/20 necro circlet with str, eth nightwing's and 40 MF chancies. Unique jewelery drops like candy lately.
I hope to not die anymore and get my goal in planned time. See you around in a week or two.
