SPF Technical Support Thread

I have been trying to find out how to get RWM on 1.14 single player. Every time I get to a place that gives me a location for the download, I get a 404 error. How can I get RWM???

Is Singling ( fearedbliss - singling ) safe to use? It is basically RWM + number 5 fix + multiple instances, and it is listed as allowed but i just dont trust stuff that overwrites files :) Anyone using it? Is something else changed, no matter how insignificant it may seem?

Try 0.42. I am using that and it is pretty solid.

I’m not sure what the changes are to 0.43 anyway.

Where is version 0.43? Sourceforge (where the link in the OP goes) seems to only have version 0.42 (which I'm currently using) and hasn't been updated since 2013.

If you look at the README file in the root directory of that GitHub repo, it explains exactly what has been changed (under "Features"). There are some other minor changes but none of them affect gameplay.

Some of the changes do require modifications to the game files (e.g. the multi-instance fix, which involves modifying D2gfx.dll, or in 1.14, the portion of Game.exe which contains the code which used to be in the DLL). But you don't have to use those changes if you don't want to run modified game files. RWM and the 5/6 font fix don't require overwriting any game files and you can use either or both of those with a stock installation if you want without using the rest of Singling. It's entirely up to you :)

Version 0.43 is on the Sourceforge website too, here.

Maybe it should be linked too in the op, instead of version 0.42?

Singling (and Bliss Version Switcher) are tricky as they are packaged mods.

You have to be aware of what you are enabling, and what is permitted by the rules. As the author declined to make rules compliant versions when I asked him, the emphasis is on you to check.

Read the change logs carefully - PM both mods if unsure.

Not really a game change problem, but the site itself.. how do i make the annoying smurf colored tab which says privacy settings go away? I'm on chrome on my phone.

Some useful info for Mac Players trying to get 1.14d to run:

Last night I D2 on my Mac from the Blizzard website. 1.14b started without problems, although I didn’t actually play it.

When I patched to 1.14d, the game wouldn’t start (Patched via BNet as I couldn’t get the offline installer to run.)

After many restarts, reinstalls etc, I found some advice not to install directly in /Applications. So I dragged the folder to the desktop and it ran first time. I also tried it in a sub directory /Applications/Games. This also seemed to work.

New first post and thread title. Yes I replaced most of the text in @Thyiad’s post. As she would say “Bite me.”

I wanted to keep the history in this thread but remove all the stuff that overlaps other threads.

The idea is to push all tech support questions into this thread, so please check it regularly to help people out.

If anyone wants to contribute to the FAQ section, just PM me the text.

@Gynli

I got it I think, thanks. :) Is there any way I can verify that it's working? I assume it's Rune words only, doesn't enable anni/torch in any way which is how you guys play here. :D

@Disposition assuming you downloaded RTB's runeword mod, just make Edge or Spirit in game and check. If it doesn't work dont Charsi it, when you get it working it will turn into the runeword. Instructions should be in the links too.

Hey guys,

I'm still trying to figure out how to get rid of the save & exit issue that shows letters and numbers in the top left corner. It happens as well when entering a game, as you may certainly know.

I'm running the game in full screen on 1.13 and I have tried basicsbas everything:
- vanilla / with mods
- full screen, windowed + borderless
- with glide and eithiut
- with and without most options and combinations svens glide wrapper has to offer
- compatibility modes
- other .exe configurations, like color schemes and desktop behavior options and whatever
- going through my graphic card setting and checking various options of the Nvidia software
- various combinations of the above

If there is a way to fix it I would be sooooo happy to find out! It's so punishing to do pindle runs and wait as long to load into or out of the game as the run actually takes. Help is greatly appreciated. Will carve the name of the one helping me getting rid of it into my forehead and wear it with proud ;):p

Thank you very much already. Been hovering over the posts but really need to catch some aleep now. Will try it tomorrow - again thanks already in advance for your effort!

Tried it BTW and got rid of the symbols in the corner. Still the load time is so much longer than what I expected would happen. How do others get the instant game load to work?

Glad you got rid of the symbols in the corner. I think there are various issues that might contribute to load times:
  • Windows 10 weirdness
  • Antivirus and other background processes
  • Runeword mod might cause a performance hit
Not sure as my load times aren't great and windows 10 has started doing a weird black screen thing on initial game launch and between acts and for cutscenes. Seems to be related to screen resolutions but I haven't managed to fix it as 1803 update seems to have changed certain things so that old advice/fixes aren't necessarily easy to implement.

Do you run as admin? I had issues after the last win update, and running in xp compatibility mode and as admin fixed things for me.

So... first time user of GoMule, how exactly do I find the character file ending with .d2s while browsing form GoMule? It doesn't show it to me in the DiabloII folder.

Edit: nvm, this explained it flawlessly :)
