Not sure about the circlet - It would definitely go ito my stash, but not sure what I would use it for. Feels like it is missing resists, FCR or something.

Eth Duriels Shell can be useful to give a Merc a big polearm at a lower level. But generally I agree, Treachery is better as a cheap merc armour.
 
After finishing my 20 hours in the finding balance tournament, I decided to quest a bit with my blizzard sorceress, to see if I could move her along to act 3. This would have been a qualifier, if only I had found it just a few days earlier.

It's been about a month so I figured it was time for an update. :)

As of my last update I had everything I needed for my 1.11b Hammerdin except a CTA. Kind folks volunteered good ideas for how I might go about getting an Ohm Rune in 1.11b ... and then I went ahead with my own (apparently bad) idea ... more LK! I noticed that players 5/6 LK apparently has two Ohm Rune patterns and two Gul Rune patterns. I had seven Ist Runes from my 18k players 3 LK marathon so an Ohm Rune drop would be great but a Gul Rune drop would work. By my math that meant I could reasonably expect to find a Gul or Ohm by run 2,731 (65,536 drop patterns divided by six chests = 10,923 divided by four desired patterns = 2,731). Alas, it didn't work out. After 8k players 5 LK runs I had neither a Gul nor an Ohm but I had found five Mal Runes:

A pretty unremarkable roll. Not so good that I'm totally happy; not so bad that I'd be tempted to make another one. Anyhow, bottom line, I can do players 8 Baal runs now without (too much) fear of dying (I went from clvl 90-92 without a death ... so, seems like it should be good enough :D ). There's a part of me that wants to go make a beta CTA, get a 1.07 Harlequin Crest, and beta BK Ring but so far I've been able to fight those urges off and keep my character 'period correct' ... so far ...

The 8k players 5 LK runs was a bit of a bust when it came to runes but I did get pretty much everything that I had been hoping to find in LK that I hadn't already found during my 18k players 3 LK marathon. Here's some of the highlights:

My standard early game (from rescuing Cain to/through Act IV) twinking setup uses three part Angelic's (armor, amulet, ring) and then Sigon's or Hsarus' (boot, belts, gloves) ... so no lightning resists. If it looks like I'm going to start pumping out characters at a high rate again I'll gladly use a couple of socket quests to have the ultimate (okay, you've probably got something better) twinking gear!

I didn't really keep track of what I was finding in those departments as I wasn't expecting to do enough runs to be statistically interesting ... oops. 8k players 5 LK runs was a bit excessive, and it did hurt a bit to cube all my Mal+ mid runes to make a CTA, but I got what I wanted and loads of extras so no regrets! (y)

@HanShotFirst Huge grats!. 4BO is definitely a success. Would have been fine, but pretty disappointing if you'd gotten a 1. I really enjoy the bullheadedness to stay period correct on this guys, so am loving your updates. Enjoy that paladin and get him some levels!

If I go for 200 fcr, the question is: facet wizzy vs hoto. If wizzy, I can use 2x soj/bkwb, if hoto, I have to use a fcr ring. But I already have fcr rings aplenty, even with mana or resists (or both in currently lesser amounts). Not that farming up sojs will be too terribly difficult when compared to going for 99. That all presupposes I make a 2/20 ammy. I currently have 2 light, 10 fcr, and resists... Too many factors to consider. The question is do I keep crescent moon and 105 fcr (which is fine. Plenty fun. Though I think I preferred how wielding infinity has gone in the past.), or do I shoot for 200 fcr. Does it lose its fun factor? No clue. I can give it shot without expending socket quests at least. That's all for now!

Are you running Charged Bolt or Lightning/CL?

If it's the former, then maybe go 200fcr (but make sure you reach 86 fhr breakpoint as well). Lightning and CL seems ok at 117 already, might as well stack the -resists.

@Zenigma if you dont have a 2/20, the obvious choices are hoto with 2 fcr rings or wizzy with one ;). But I'll say I've never found 200 fcr to be worth it for anything except teleporting (meaning LK). But either way good luck and let us know hoe it goes!
 
@Zenigma 200fcr imo is more worth it for non-targeting spam skills. Offensively, this means Nova and CB.

Nova at 200fcr just eats up mana like no tomorrow and definitely not worth the drop in damage.

Seeing CB blanketing the screen however..🤩 haha
 
@Luhkoh Cant remember for sure but think I was shaving time on Countess runs with 200 and IIRC we had a few users experimenting with Trav runs having good results?
 
@Jpy true i totally forgot countess. I wouldn't run her with anything other than 200fcr. The run is like 95% teleporting.
Also true gripphon liked that 200 fcr variant for trav, but I didn't see anyone else who tried it like it more than 105.

Regardless ofc 200 fcr is fun and works decently ^^.
 
@Luhkoh @saracen85 Granted, with 99ing, the most important thing is to not become bored. So if 200 fcr is more fun, it probably would make up for the drop in damage. I had originally intended for her to go CB/FW, but in the past couple weeks, I've been considering going CB/nova and trying out a non-lightning skill lightning sorc. Maximize the benefit of 200 fcr, and all spare points would go into warmth to offset mana costs. Especially without having the luxury of meditation aura.

Merc can equip this with the Gface helm he's been using. And we're only five levels away from him being able to use it without that. Even so, andy's visage might be an ideal helm along with making a fort. Already have the Lo, after all. I'm not sure if it's a tremendous loss to have infinity in a subpar base, though I wonder if I would regret filling this. I'd probably farm up the runes again if a 4os ethresh or 4os eGT dropped. I'm getting the sneaking suspicion while writing this that just going for infinity would be the best bet at this point because it would make runs so much faster. I could respec out of FO for backup damage and just cruise on CB for a long while. Another benefit of 200 fcr, using wizzy means lots of extra resistances and I could theoretically drop all my fr and lr charms for mana charms, which I have a lot of stockpiled in her extended stash.

Anyhow, while writing this, I convinced myself to just go for it, and here is my merc's new baby:

So, Friday November 13th 2020 has come and gone. I don't see a compelling reason to start a new item find thread, though - mind if we just continue building new finds on this one?

I didn't realize that it was possible in act 1 to find a rune as rare as this one.
