SPF Technical Support Thread

Glad you got rid of the symbols in the corner. I think there are various issues that might contribute to load times:
  • Windows 10 weirdness
  • Antivirus and other background processes
  • Runeword mod might cause a performance hit
Not sure as my load times aren't great and windows 10 has started doing a weird black screen thing on initial game launch and between acts and for cutscenes. Seems to be related to screen resolutions but I haven't managed to fix it as 1803 update seems to have changed certain things so that old advice/fixes aren't necessarily easy to implement.
That sounds like things on my side pretty much. After having tried a bit more I will give it another go tomorrow and let you guys know. Latest thing I heard was starting the game with -ns. Will see if no sound fixes the issue though playing with out sound is not really an option for me.

I was in the middle of a pindle run when my computer decided to freeze up(not typical). It shut down, but started up no issue.

I got back into D2, could not find the character. Opened gomule, and character is now ‘disconnected’.

I’m sort of at a loss. What should I do?

Edit: Was able restore character, all is good with the world. *Phew*

Q . The glide wrapper from the stickies, do I just drop .dll file into my D2 file and it will run automatically?

Is it worth it? Ta

Managed to get glide wrapper sorted along with -w command. Thanks

Think I have rwm done as well, will need to wait and see when I start getting some better runes.

Just out of curiosity, do most folk when running have go mule open and using window command to speed up muling?

I just shift-tab and re-open gomule when stash is full. Always with the char closed in GoMule and always open GoMule in the start screen of the game

****Warning Idiot Alert Ahead***********

C:\Users\graha\D2\Diablo II is my root directory for game
The runeword folder sits in here
I have shortcut that Starts in - "C:\Users\graha\D2\Diablo II\Runewords"
I have "C:\Users\graha\D2\Diablo II\Diablo II.exe" -w -direct -text as the target

I have a 4 socket poleaxe with Ral Tir Tal Sol in that order in a game opened with shortcut as above.

I have no insight. (and apparently no clue either)

Can someone who can translate for the intellectually challenged please offer me some help!!!!

I am using win10 if that makes any difference and game opens in windowed mode fine

Last night as I was gambling circlets/coronets trying to up the leech on my merc, I noticed that all of a sudden things would get very choppy while I was moving my mouse. If I left things along, everything was fine (NPCs moving, fire in the central pit, etc) - but once I started moving my mouse, it would be "laggy" (for lack of a better word).

I've never encountered this issue before in SP. Has anyone seen this before and, if so, would you know what's causing it and how to fix it? I use neither Window mode nor Glide - maybe I should? I'm running Windows 7 and have a 27" monitor plugged into my laptop. I'm perplexed because up until last night, I've never encountered any issues before and have been running in full screen....

Hello.

Like many I have been a player of d2 for over a decade and somehow come back to it each time.

Unfortunately, this time I incurred a problem I have yet to find a way to settle so I come to you seeking advice.

My computer shut down and somehow my character does not display in d2 anymore. The character files are all still in the save folder, however, the .d2s file when opened in notepad is blank. I had no yet backed up this character as this sorceress was meaningless until she found an item I would like to keep.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated, thank you in advance.

I tried Google and no help there, although I was impressed to read that the d2 community is still strong.

ok @ddknoll unfortunately I could not load the char in game, it never showed up in the game menu. Also I opened it in GoMule (a muling program) and the character had the status "disconnected"

So I think that char file got corrupted in the PC crash :/ Not the first time I've heard of it.

What you can do in the future, is to make manual backups or get GoMule (which also do backups for you but automatically)

I run Gomule but when I opened the backup files it only showed my stashes.

Can you orient me on where character backups can be found?

I even have old .d2x files from when I previously played but they are empty when I open them in gomule they are empty as well.

Thank you.

In the folder where your chars are saved (/Saved Games/Diablo II) there is a folder called GoMule.backup

In there you will find lots of backups of each char, for instance
Arya.2018.09.16-18.59.11.d2s.org

Rename that file to Arya.d2s and place it in the folder where your chars are saved and you have the char as it was saved 16 Sept 2018 18:59:11
