Finding the Balance #3 (MF & RF Tournament)

2.5 hours in...well pleased with the finds so far. Switched from CS to AT to compare those two. XP is only 3,300 XP/s as compared to 5,800 XP/s for CS and I have to see, if boss packs make up for it - but I guess CS will still be better. We will see...

I thought this was sexy, what do you think?

19 hours down and one to go. Can I improve on the 9 S&U and 20 rune qualifiers? And no I don't have any Zods, at least not yet. I'm disappointed in te number and quality of the S&U items. Rune wise I'm pleased though they could be better.

5.5 hours in. You can't imagine how satisfying it is to watch your XP bar move again after 23 hours of it not even moving a micrometer... 🙄 I already gained 55% percent to level 96! No drop can ever compensate for that! Still, happy to report that my 2nd Rising Sun dropped and man .- is it a changeof playstyle in CS since I switched my +2skill/9%FCR/all res/21% MF amulet for the Rising Sun! Runs are so much safer and I was able to make some gear changes in other slots (namely ditch Fire Resistance).

Does anyone know, if less resistance is actually more beneficial with The Rising Sun? I am not entirely sure after taking a look at the formula at the amazon basin, because I am probably too stupid to figure it out...

I'm done and score reported. I did find 2 more rune qualifiers in the last hour, but nothing to nudge up my score.

Running Baal was a big disappointment. He was even stingier than normal.

Definitely not. If you keep your resistances low you might heal more but that means that you will also take more damage. For example you may heal 50 health but still take 20 damage.
If you keep your resistances high, you might heal less but you will also receive less or no damage at all. For example you may heal 20 but won't take any damage.
Resistance is calculated first so final outcome will always be better with more resistances.

Absorption is a nice idea to write a guide! :)

Finished my second set, but didn't improve my previous entry, so I haven't sent the results. 4 of my best 5 qualifiers were runes this time :ROFLMAO:.

And that's for me, guys. Won't be able to play much more till the end of the tournament. I'm quite happy with what I've obtained. Filled a lot of grailers and got a lot of good, useful drops. I'm still missing a couple of stubborn items, though.

Hmm, then I probably really misunderstood it. Generally speaking, your explanation seems completely correct. But what about the Balrog"s Inferno especially? It does a rather low damage per frame, as far as I know. Let's say it is 54 (the number from amazon basin), that means even with -0% fire resist that is completely negated and I am then healed by 54 life (with 72 fire absorb). But if I have 90% fire resistance, all would be absorbed again but I would only be healed by 6 (the amount absorbed), correct?

Of course, this is completely something else for high fire damage numbers, but for Balrogs especially it looks like you get more healing with less resistance. Of course, that doesn't really matter if you are at full life, but if one hits you with a melee attack and the other fire breathe in you, more healing would be greatly appreciated.

But I really don't know if I got this right...

Sorry for hijacking - shall I move this to another thread/PM?

@Grisu I didn't confirm specific numbers but generally speaking you are correct, lower resist with integer absorb can be more beneficial. There is a similar thing with hydras in Travincal. I'm a fan of using Hellmouth for those runs and that works best with lower FR (~40 or so) with regard to that specific target/hydra damage numbers. I never checked this in detail for CS fire damage but always when using Rising Sun, you heal a bunch either way. Didn't really feel the need to optimize around that.

Thanks to everyone who already submitted results!

Sorry for being so absent but work has been crazy (still is). I'm still at around 10h so surprisingly it will be difficult for me to finish a set even.. but I will try!

Your scenario seems correct since Flat Absorb against low damage attacks will heal you more. This is also why Lighting Absorb is usually popular due to lighting enhanced monsters which almost falls in the same category!

14:30 hours done
I lost a bit of motivation this week, but the last hour has been very rewarding so I'll try to play a bit more this weekend and get this batch closer to 20 hours and my score a bit higher before the tournament ends :)
