@Kitteh you could always go with a melee char that gets most of mana needs covered by leech.

I think @zticazzy was pure vanilla and he made a 99 Barb ;)

Oh, and I'm going to need to get used to a lot more potions also when doing my magic and rare only septs. At least with Plagueazon (+CS) it was bearable. :p
 
I respecced my WolfBarb to a ZealBarb after he patted. At first I tried some Travincal at /p3, which went quite well, although a bit slow, mainly because I didn't care to get a great map. 'Problem' is that I also rolled a more than average Pits map there, which I did as well, on /p8. So after a while I decided it would make more sense to gain some levels first, and maybe after that return to Travincal and roll a very good map there.

This way my Barb has gotten to level 89 for now. Nothing spectacular in terms of drops yet, best was probably a lonely Ist from Pits. I also did some dual Seal CS runs, Pindle and Baal Waves, all on /p8, which also went quite ok. So all in all a very fun and versatile character who can run different areas and targets to keep things interesting. Due to the nature of the build, I had points to spare, and as such he also has high level Find Item, but so far I haven't really been using it, except for Travincal and Pindle. No deaths yet with this character, so that definitely is a plus :).

The ring setup isn't ideal, but I don't have a proper dual leech fcr ring. I started out with this setup for Travincal, and kept it because of that reason.
 
Here's pretty much everything in Classic leveling. Due to the +-5, maggots become pretty bad around 80-81. Getting past lv 87-89 is a total joke.

Just going through that now, I am going through the RoF with a nice Maggot lvling map I have kept for 2 weeks using sleep on the OS to freeze the MP game in time when not in use
A nice map for me is tons of maggots and if Hephasto does not spawn with Teleport so he is killable.

With an 8 player with 4 partied chars the main killer is getting just under 7K XP per kill at 80, at 79 is was about 8.5K
I plan to continue until the main killer hits 82 the switch to another set so I am interested the penalty once I hit 81. I expect 81-82 to be a grind

Any ideas about experience about 81 with this setup
 
Once all your toons are to 81-82, i'd kill the other RoF monsters. Udars are good until level 87 or so. I usually check the map and if maggots spawn I reroll the map. They aren't worth killing past 82. They only give 2k XP or so.
 
....but they are soooo many! One WW can kill like 25 of them easy, which translates to 50k xp. I leveled to 87 on maggots, however, that last level was pain. Then leveled to 89 on urdar champs, planning to get to 90 some day, still on urdar champs/bosses. Very slow, though, so needs goldfind stuff and them being able to drop something like ring/boot/belt to break the boredom.
 
Orc mum to her children: Eat your maggots, they are very healthy. Daddy became big and strong on maggots only!
 
Got the ZealBarb to 90 doing Pits. Really a build I can recommend !!! Obviously it's not the best build for any task, but it's a great allrounder, and it's lots of fun.

@helvete how many hours of game time was needed to get the Barb to 87 on a diet of Maggots in 1.00 and was he partied with other players while lvling

I was getting about 5.5k xp per kill with main killer on 81 with 4 partied 8 player game

I don't remember the hours, but he was partied, and the mules were getting pretty high. I stopped leveling the mules one by one, as they reached their target levels, however.

I do remember I had at least 64 of each normal gem afterwards. Probably more, as I stopped sorting them after a while.
 
Weird D2 things for me in past 24 hours:
  1. Rolled a "jackpot baby" Travincal map with a WW barb today, after only about five or six re-rolls.
  2. After ~470M XP @ clvl 98 v. Nihl, I had never seen triple Keys drop. Lady_Fury has had it happen to her twice within the last 2M XP (~eight-eight runs).

It's CRG! Dang old it's been a while. What you been up to?
In no specific order:
  1. Running. (Duh) Coming back after 4 months of a chronically sprained ankle with decreased range of motion. My sanity has been saved by D2, among other things. I can only have one hobby at a time, so to speak.
  2. Bought house across on the otherside of the metro area I live in.
  3. Winning a case at my state's highest court.
  4. Had kiddo #2 last July.
  5. Wife changed jobs last October, and loves it.
In short, life is good.

You can sign out anytime you like, but you can never leave.

I haven't found a good use for Faith on an A1 merc yet, even though I put mine - in part, a long time ago - in a non-zon bow just to have that flexibility. There just aren't many characters out there where you would (when optimizing) take an A1 merc over an A2 merc (using Insight, Reaper's or Infinity, the power trio of A2 merc weapons). (e.g. Riftadin.) You're going to use it when you need the IAS from Fanat and you can't get it sufficiently elsewhere.

Your CoA is a great helm for a bowa - res, IAS, skill, FHR. Only issue is the strength investment to get there.

The thing about Highlords is that you (should) have a huge CS already (likely ~71%, so the plus 35% DS from HW or so actually adds four or five percent on top of that. The +1 skill/IAS/LR makes it a great ammy, but if you're facing a lot of damage to kick out at a concentrated pack - i.e. Baal runs = Atma's **will** regularly trigger the Amp (w/i a wave, e.g.) and you're doing much more damage that HW ever could boost. I run with the Atma's/Pride set-up quoted in the IFT, so no Reaper's for me. I haven't noticed much of a difference, except that when the Amp triggers it shuts down the wave very, very quickly. It takes away from my +2 zon caster ammy I generally use and requires me to use a caster craft belt b/c I don't have a good enough dual leech /w FCR ring, but if you're not going Enigma, you don't need to worry about that route.

You need either Atma's or Reaper's available to you with a Bowa, I've concluded. b/c I have Pride (+300% off-weapon ED), I use that on A2 merc (so I have Fanat, Might, and Conc auras active) plus Atma's now. Works great. If you don't need the IAS from HW, you have options. I think it goes faster than HW + Reaper's in the long run and is less reliant on your moron.

Man, farming essences is hard work. I started running Baal with level 93 Javazon with no zero white on the exp counter. Now she's halfway to 94 (could be over, died once in a ridiculous Gloam assault) and first essence just dropped. I need plenty more. I actually kinda need to respec her too, as she's very poorly optimized for Ball running, having points in Avoid and Evade, with no Decoy.

Pretty bad results with Meph as well, although the runs are of course much quicker. Fire Sorc rules at this. I'm also outta Diablo essences, so Hammerdin's on that duty.

Andy essences are plentyful though, I have like ten of them left. I guess she drops them more often because of the quest bug.
 
@Burgomaster3 I feel your pain on the essences. One reason we get fewer Diablo and Baal essences is because it takes longer to run those bosses. You got to dig through their pile of gatekeepers first. Whereas Andy and Meph you can teleport right up to them and facepwn them, makes for way faster runs which means more kills = more drops.
 
@GooberGrape True. There's also the thing, that you never find what you're looking for, at least not quickly enough. I used to do Diablo and Baal runs for fun and exp, and essences were everywhere. But now I only run the two seals in CS and don't really Baal that much, so my steady supply is gone :oops:

With Meph, my problem is, that I don't need anything else he can drop, and he's worthless from the leveling standpoint, so I feel I'm wasting my time. I'd rather run Pits or AT, or even Pindle, than Meph. Sure, he might drop extra Arachnid Mesh or random HR once in a blue moon, but that's about it.
