Lol not left Act 1 normal yet although i do have the two set items i chose to wear on me. Will see what i can do to progress him during the week. Kinda spending some time each day doing Shenk item/Countess rune runs with my freezealot which is helping to level him along quite nicely, will hit level 86 tomorrow

I really dislike all the undead in A2 Hell... Especially anything that gets revived by those awful tall claw things whose name escapes me at the moment. Even at p1 I'm getting overly frustrated with quick deaths. I guess I should have invested more into vitality... I still have some charms I could add for the extra life/resists. If I strayed from my gear choices as well I'm sure these issues would damper, but I will stick with it for now to finish out the challenge. I'm in Tal Rasha's tomb so hopefully the main troubles with all those undead and PI ghosts will come to a halt as I make it through the rest of Hell.

i´m done only thing left is the write-up

The random numbers gave me a planetary or moon theme and my char had to attack with poison or cold damage

First a bit of info about the Planet this char is themed after
Pluto used to be 9th and outer most planet in the solar system. for a long time it had one known moon called charon, which was debated to be part of a twin planet system, as the center of mass they both orbit is located outside of pluto. they both have 3 moons: the inner most was formerly P2 and is now Nix, the outer most and formerly P3 is now Hydra and a very recently discovered one between them provisionally called S/2011 P 1 or P4. in 2006 pluto lost its status as a planet and became the first object of a new category called dwarf planets. Pluto is named after the latin name of the greek good hades, who was ruler of the underworld, realm of all dead people, which was called hades too and out of which the christian model of hell later evolved. Charon has the name of the ferryman, that carries the newly deceased over the river styx into the hades. the name originates from egypt and is an euphemism for death

Let me introduce to you Charon the Paladin.

but now the real story
Charon grew up as part of a twin planet-system, the Pluto-Charon-System. But because he was so much smaller than his older brother, he was falsely called Plutos first moon and not even given the name of a real god. He was named after the Ferryman, that carried the deceased over the river Styx into the Hades - a man of ill temper and rage. So naturally he was the victim of japes and jokes all his life. Yet he knew, someday, when he was all grown up, he would show them all how big a planet he really was!!

The day Charon had longed for all his life finally arrived, the Prime Evils broke free from hell and all gods, the humans had named all the planets after, had long vanished and no one was there to help. His cousins and bigger brother were experienced warriors, but this was his turn, his moment to prove his strength.
His entire family came to wish him good luck and let him go through their loot of battles long gone.

The jokes in his childhood had left him traumatised, he had gotten Selenophobia - fear of moons, so he could not touch anything that bore the name moon or of a moon - even though those were his second degree cousins. So he had to ignore mighty things like Titans Revenge, Moonfall, Bloodmoon and Crescent Moon. But there was lots of other stuff he would put to good use. Everything was stored in a huge backpack and the journey could begin:

His first weapon of choice was a Khalim's Will with the usual other twink things like a mask and armor of envy. Nothing in the Blood Moor could stand this weapon, not even on /p8. But still Charon was unsure about which of his skills to develop. As soon he was able to wear Signon's gloves and helmet, he knew what he wanted to become: a Frostzealot. But he was not experienced enough to use this skill yet, so he had to find a more powerful weapon in the meantime: a Cristal Sword of Wrath

Soon after Andariel lay dead to his feet, he acquired his desired skill, but grew lonely. Never had he been this far and long away from home. When he was still with his older brother, they had a satellite called S/2011 P 1, but everyone called him P4. Once Charon lowered the player settings to /p4 he did not miss home all that much anymore. When he left the rogues, Hannah, the brave rogue, was left behind. Razan would take her place in the desert and help him defeat the second one on his list Duriel. While he was pleased with his choice of skill, he was no longer satisfied with his weapon and neither did he want the support of a desert mercenary. So in the jungle he hired Raldin and took The General's Tan Do Li Ga out of his backpack. Mephisto was no match to their combined attacks. Raldin was a fierce warrior and so he stuck around to help send Diablo back to where he belonged. The heights of Mount Arreat are no place for a warrior of the jungle, but Charon stumbled there upon his future brother in arms Lanth. They were both wielding a Bloodletter at that time, and although Lanth fainted on the sight of Lister and his minion, Charon did not flinch. So it was time to do the great deed, that would put Charon alongside his bigger brother and cousins.

Drunken on victory Charon returned back home. Pluto greeted him ambivalent feelings. His little brother was a real warrior now for everyone to see and he was proud, but his task was not over. Baal and the others were not dead. They escaped and haunted the humans now in their nightmares. Again the cousins assembled to supply Charon with what was necessary, also the previously loaned items were returned. Pluto had a special gift: his name giver, the god Hades (or Pluto in latin), had once been given a cap of invisibility by the Cyclopes, the darksight helm. When the gods vanished he received it and wore it ever since. He had also jeweled it, but now it was time to pass it on. Plutos and Charons little satellite Hydra also had a gift: the shield Tiamat´s Rebuke would spawn little fire spitting Hydras every now and then, so Charon would think of her and not feel alone.

So the journey continued and Lanth was called. Both with mostly fresh equipment vowed to clean the human Nightmares and defeat the Prime Evils once and for all.
The equipment looked something like this
weapon: butchers pupil
shield: tiamats rebuke without a socket
helm: darksight helm with rare jewel
armor: artisans light plate of the squid

They both entered the wilderness on /p4 as to not feel lonely and moved along. As Hydra had promised, many little fire spitting Hydras showed up and always made Charon smile. His brother gift also did hid work and blinded the enemies as to make him invisible. How could he fail with goodies like this? So soon Andariel] lay to his feet once more.
But Baal would not just roll over and his revenge would soon come...through the Nightmares Baal was able to convince the humans, that Pluto and Charon were no real planets! Charon knew as soon as the saw the dwarf star, the badge of the dwarf planets, appear on his right hand. The news were like a slap in the face for him. Through his failure in disposing the Prime Evils the first time, his brother and little satellites was shamed and cast out of the squad of great and mighty planets.
Charon suddenly changed, he became raged and ill-tempered, like the ferryman he was named after. He was no longer on the pursuit of glory, but on a fanatic vendetta. His demeanor was not the only thing that changed, but also his way of fighting: he became what is called a fanatic Avenger.
"Duriel curled up and died like the bug he his" were the words Charon used to describe his next big battle and soon his cruelness manifested in a new weapon: Cruel Mighty Scepter of Alacrity

Fueled by the massive amount of damage he dealt with his new weapon, he went on without spending much time at a place unmindful of Lanths wellbeing. Charon walked right over Mephisto to get one step closer to his nemesis. And Diablo was next. Nothing could stop him this close to his goal, not the ancients and neither Nihlatak nor Lister could save Baal from his anger.

While Charon saw the soul of the slain Evil leaving the body heading back to hell, his rage cooled down slowly. All the Prime Evils were defeated and back in Hell now. With no decent loot he went to what remained of his home: Pluto´s spirit was broken as his honor was trampled by the humans. They were both no longer allowed in the realm of the planets and worth less than any arbitrary moon of his former cousins. This spark of shame re-ignited the fire of anger deep inside him. He knew what had to be done. He needed to become ruler of hell to make Baal and the others suffer for all eternity, like Sisyphus suffered, for the crime they had done against him. To enter Hell, he would need his brothers armor, the body armor of the vanished god, ruler of Hell, the Black Hades. Also a new weapon had to be used to hurt the beings of hell. The name charon itself is an euphemism for death and also the name of Plutos very powerful war spike.

With Lanth by his side he entered Hell at /p4, accompanied by Hydras and in the war-equipment of his brother. Lanth knew it wouldn´t be as easy this time but Charon would not listen to a word he said. At one point Charon was trapped alone by Blood Raven and many undead and it was either him or Blood Raven. After a more few faints, Lanth decided the Oath

hew vowed in Nightmare to back up his brother in arms whatever they would face wasn´t enough anymore, he needed to talk some sense and reason back into Charon. Things went much smoother once they did everything in a slower pace and everything non CI was frozen or chilled. They defeated Andariel for the last time. The army on unleechable undeads in the desert proved to be a big problem. But they survived by zealing them down slowly. One of the many skeletons lost a nice rune for luck and better loot in the future and Duriel left Ariocs Needle. The jungle was very tricky for both of them. So many small things were running around everywhere and swarming them, they had to use up the stash of purple potions they had brought: of the 15 only 3 remained once they reached Lower Kurast. Souls were encountered too, but those were as harmless as the council and Mephisto compared to the flayers. The way to Diablos Sanctuary proved to be full of adventures: more souls were close to fallen angel, but the real problem began in the River of Flame. Only the careful use of the charges on Marrowwalk made it possible to progress further. The final seal was guarded by the Infector of Souls. He and his gang crowded Charon and Lanth, luckily they could hit heavy enough to keep themself alive while the others were under the influence of life tab. Diablo was a wimp compared to the prior fights.

And now the big final: Charon arrived while Harrogath was under siege - big surprise 😉
So he wiped out Shenk with all his slingers and quickly moved on to more worthwhile tasks. Thresh Socket was next on his agenda. Nothing one has to kill, but he always felt better when things were complete. But this was the time when things took a wrong turn. With one hit Thresh could take out Lanth completely and around 80% of Charons life. After the 8th or 9th hit Charon should have learned his lesson and snuck past that big slow tree, but NOOOOOO he had to be this censored stubborn and unable to leave things censored be. Serves you well, you CENSORED!!!!

With all the Prime Evils crushed and no living soul left in hell to question his authority, Baal became in hell what was Louis XVI in France. And so to exploit Charons selenophobia, Baal made him orbit his spiritually broken dwarf planet brother as a moon for all eternity while every planet, moon, comet, asteroid and even satellites around him laugh at him for being a moon and his failure.

TL;DR: i finally played an Avenger, if u want to know more u have to read it all

Getting done with Hell, but I'm not quite there yet. Seeing as it wasn't a requirement I went ahead and got done with the write-up as not much else will change other than level and matriarchal status.

I was given Foxy/Animalistic with a Physical/Summon focus. I decided against the obvious Werewolf Summoner Hybrid for a more creative approach. I took Foxy for the slang referring to a beautiful woman and came up with the following:

Get out your singles and make some noise 'cause our up-and-coming dancer Candy is next! This Foxy Blonde Bombshell has been tearing up the stage! The Diablo Vanity Challenge asked for it, and it sure got it folks.

Candy had a choice to work at Sigon's Shelter or Darksight's Keep and let's just say that the sights there are definitely a little too dark for the taste of this fine lady. So it was off to Sigon's. The only bad thing about working there was that Sigon wanted all the ladies to wear his obscene helmet whenever they got on stage. He felt it kept their identity a secret and made things more mysterious for the customers. On top of that, the ladies had to wear his boots, gloves, or belt to go with it. To try and gain the favor of the boss quickly, she decided to go overboard and wear it all just for him.

And so began her explosive career digging in deep with her Raven Claws. They were gifted to her by some of the veteran dancers from the old 109 District. To help her balance things out and keep her good girl image going strong she put on some Angelic Jewelry and Garments to pair with her glistening silvery-white apparel. Her first hint of competition was from Andy, some red-head that was trying to steal Candy's stage name! With only three swipes this cat fight was over before it even started. Andy had no chance against the fantastic looks and moves of Candy.

As she kept her career going, she became more and more popular. The cat fight led Sigon to order a bodyguard to follow her everywhere she went. He even took care of her personal dance pole at all times on or off the stage. You never know when the opportunity might strike to shake some tail feathers. He became her Guardian Angel[/]. She also acquired a backup dancer that provided a constant shining spotlight on her. She had to carry her own dance pole though.

Candy began craving increasing amounts of gold from the customers and as such did everything she could to allure profits from her customers. With her increased profits, experience, and fame she was able to acquire much finer outfits for dancing and could drop the old, worn gloves and belt of Sigon's. She did decide the boots would be a keepsake for the support and big break given by Sigon. That's not to mention that they were nice and shiny; how could any girl resist some tall, shiny boots?

Her newly acquired costumes included a Goldskin and Goldwrap to help her glow even further under the dim lights and sucker up all of the new customers that flocked to her stage. Eventually, her desire for more caused her to take Aim at a prosperous customer by the name of Lycander. He quickly gave in to her lustful ways and placed his prized Bow in her hair. She kept it close to her every night for protection against the handsy customers that were getting too close for comfort. The symbol warned all who trespassed that they would have to deal with Lycander himself. Some of the more experienced dancers even shared knowledge of ducking, dodging, and jiving her way out of the grasp of her fans.

Eventually, she came to be so renowned that Lycander wasn't even enough for her taste. She set her sights on the one and only Bul-Kathos. The one man every woman wanted to hook. Her Angelic Jewelry had lost its flare and she traded one of the rings out for a Raven Frost to keep her from being slowed down by anything in her path. She kept the other hand free to make sure that Mr. BK knew she was available. With all her leftover funds she managed to obtain the hypnotic and mesmerizing Kaleidoscope of Mara to bewilder BK and, as if that wasn't enough shiny bling to go around, enough Ice Diamonds to blind everyone in the place. The last thing she needed was a special touch from the Laying of her Hands. This final seduction did it and BK coughed up the one thing no other girl had gotten: the Wedding Band.

Now every time she steps on stage the soft subtle glow is refracted into hundreds of spotlights by her Kaleidoscope and then hundreds more through all of the Ice Diamonds. It is a stunning sight, so much that it stops most dead in their tracks. Some are even so stunned that they burst into sheer excitement splashing their frothy cold drinks all over the place.

real travels
While I haven't quite finished up Hell, not much is really going to change for the story. The main difference will just be that I might have some more points to go towards her level and that can easily be edited. I just had to get all these ideas out before I forgot anything or got too busy with work to get it all out.

She ran the standard HAX 1.09 RC all through norm and partway through NM until she reached 42 to use Lycander's Aim. At that time I started using strafe instead of the standard attack with the RC and was pretty pleased with how it went.
In late NM, I think it might have actually been the last seal before big D, she hit 65 and was able to equip the Ice Diamond bow that I was gifted from the Christmas Giveaway. I wasn't sure what to expect but wanted to stick with the strafe for the physical damage portion of my restrictions. It was pretty amazing at the start. I figured I'd have some extra cold damage from the HF aura and would enjoy the freezing aspect but had totally disregarded the ctc frost nova. Man were there some fireworks going off with strafe! It wasn't the most damage, but it is pretty cool to see all of them go off. Through Hell it is less and less effective, but the physical damage is still pretty decent on the bow. Coupled with Strafe, max dmg charms, a decent critical strike chance, and a might merc with an Insight she holds out pretty well. The only real troubles are the PI's and that's only because of her low leeching and low HP.

Here is the frost nova spamming in action against Baal's Minions. It doesn't give justice to how much those things proc

Gear
All gear was specifically chosen for a designated purpose, whether it was aesthetic, the name fit the theme, or some mods fit the theme.

Ice Candy's Diamond Bow was personalized and chosen because her beauty was so stunning it froze all of her customers (HF aura), caused the splashing of drinks (ctc Frost Nova), and the name Ice and diamond bow refer to diamonds (which are a girl's best friend as the song goes).

Mara's Kaleidoscope jumbled up all the lights to make her that much more appealing to all those watching her.

Bul-Kathos Wedding Band was themed for her final success in making a nice catch of a man.

Laying of Hands were themed by the name to disclose her elegant and seductive touch that finally enticed BK.

Raven Frost was to keep her from slowing down on her journey towards catching BK.

Goldwrap and Goldskin both had +to light radius to help her glow for all those around her to see better (along with the glow from her "back up dancer" the Valkyrie) and +%GF to fuel her desire for more.

Sigon's helm and boots (along with the other pieces earlier on) were the club owner's requirements for working and filled the two set item restriction. The required Dol rune was socketed into the helm.

Lycander's Aim was themed to fit in with some of her "customers" trying to gain her favor just as she tried to gain the favor of BK.

The 1.09 Raven Claw was also themed to be her claws in the cat fight against Andy, the rival dancer who was trying to steal Candy's name.

And the Angelic gear was used to give her the good girl image in the beginning of her career.

Her merc wore the Guardian Angel armor as it is fitting to the theme, an Insight pole for mana saving purposes, and a Crown of Thieves (which wasn't mentioned in the write-up, but fits the bill)

stats
She didn't finish Hell, but she is sitting at level 78 in the Flayer Jungle currently.
Here's a pic of the LCS so you don't have to read through every single detail:

skills
20 strafe
20 penetrate
20 valkyrie
8 crit
3 pierce
5 multi
and 1 point for all other pre-reqs/passives.

I hope everyone enjoyed and got as much of a kick out of this character as I did. GL to the rest of the participants

I barely had time to sleep this past week so couldn't play with my toon at all. I am only about to meet with duriel in NM but will have enough spare time to make it to the end before 20th. Those dog tars are a damn good motivation indeed

Well, the challenge is wrapping up. There are 5ish days left, and it will still conclude at midnight on the 20th (that is this Friday) as scheduled. I will try to post at midnight to shut down the thread for submissions, but please try to honor the midnight deadline if for some reason I am unable to post. There have been two official submissions (you guys can edit to update char levels and such until Friday, but please, no edits after that). Actually, I would encourage future submissions to have everything in order so that no edits were necessary.

I also had a question about the personalization points and it should be pretty straightforward as I had it written. Still, to sum it up, you get 5 points per item that is personalized by your character (as long as they are wearing or making use of the branded item) up to 15 points. That means you can personalize a max of 3 items to round out a higher point total. Savvy?

I've also edited the first post to reflect the addition of another judge (now that it's too late in the event for bribe attempts ;) ). I wish everyone well in the time remaining and look forward to all the wild characters.

tl:dr- If you haven't started now, you better get on it.

tbh, I don't think I will be finishing this one...I had one all the way up to NM A3, and it was comming together awesomely, but I will just have to accept a silly dog avvy.

... I was looking forward to beating everyone else to shame with my stylishness, too...:p

thanks for hosting Liq!

Well, you have a few days to hammer out a write-up, so even if you don't think you'll make pat/mat status, that shouldn't discourage you from posting your well written wrap-up. The level of your character only makes up a portion of the total points. (And the Act and difficulty don't contribute any points.)

Awesome. Glad to be a part of this, but I just wanted to point out a mistake.

It is absolutely not too late for bribery! Matter of fact, I'm going to be holding my own separate competition wherein the best bribery attempt gets a shiny prize. Enter early, enter often. :badteeth: ;p

Good luck to everybody entered; really looking forward to seeing these ideas.

Do we Aussies have tomorrow afternoon, or will this be closed before I'd get home from work?

Ahh sweet. Midnight Jan 20th. That should mean I'd get tomorrow night, and a small part of Saturday morning to have this comleted by.

Oh, and I completed Normal Nihl, but thought: Why would you need to actually personalise an item to get the points. The quest is the main part, and the reward will easily go on any final belt/boots/gloves, so why do we need it. So I... Uh, technically just personalised a random item to get the Quest Log completed, and dumped the item.
However, I have no intention of killing him in NM/Hell. Can I still claim 5 points?

How can you say no to that?

Just reached River of Flame waypoint in Hell. Plan on killing both Diablo and Baal tomorrow and working on the write-up on Friday. I was starting to doubt myself about being able to finish it on time but looking good so far =).

I believe you have to have the item equipped to claim the points.

*coughs* Yes, I was aware of that. I was making an attempt for that to be altered, as I cleverly decided to forget the rules. You wouldn't want to make Fluttershy upset, would you?

„Darkness falls across the land…“

…and in its shadows, a baby was born. Cute little toddlers, those babies, you think? Let me guess: you have no children. During the day, they may look peaceful, cute and lovely, but when night falls…the Horror begins! What horror you ask? Come, and let me show you…

The baby was born into a dark and shallow place, haunted by the Prime Evils. Who its father was or is, is not known, and no one can live to tell, because the mother, Aliza, lost her mind in the first nights: Night after night, the baby just kept crying, without pause. The mother tried everything from soothing and rocking to screaming, but to no avail: The baby just wouldn’t stop crying. The mother, deprived of her sleep, grew more wretched with every day by the horrendous screams of her baby, and on the 13th night, her mind finally cracked. That was the time the baby decided to take down the world. Oh yes, with no father and a mother daft as a moron, what would you do? Exactly. And the baby knew just the way it could destroy humankind…the Worldstone! If it was destroyed, then demons would swallow all mankind, and the baby would finally get to know its father.

So the baby started looking for the world stone, hobbling on a Demon Limb (is a Prime Evil after all its father???), its crazy mother Aliza watching over it and protecting it relentless with the hot fury only a mother can show when her child is in danger. She helped the baby on its journey towards the Worldstone, thus unknowingly becoming a traitor to mankind herself. And a dangerous journey it was. But, the thirteen days of futile attempts to silence the baby proved helpful in protecting the baby: She shooed the enemies of the baby away or blinded them, which was very helpful, because her baby’s sight wasn’t very well developed yet (-12 Light radius from equipment): That’s how dark the world can be for a baby, or even this dark. No wonder babies turn to the light…

So, how did the baby manage to destroy the worldstone?

The baby used its ability to attract people only to deploy a nauseating circle of smelly death, leaving only rotten corpses behind. Sometimes even, the baby just waited for the right moment to set off a giant explosion of poo and miasma, crippling those near by the stench. And if this wasn’t enough, the darkforce spawn used the poisonous sharp blade found in a black bog*. Not the swamp bog, but the other bog, you know…the loo, the lav, the john, the pot…there are a thousand names for the horror of the bog. Sometimes, when someone was resistant to the smells and stenches of the baby, it used its Baby’s Blessing – that is the power to slow down grownups to a crawl and be all fuzzy-wuzzy with the baby – to bring down Doom among those who dare to resist the stench and refuse to flee in Terror. Of course, the baby wasn’t just wrapped in any nappy, either. Some grownups even felt very decrepit when confronted with such a young being, and the baby drew upon their life with its constant demands and screams. Some were even blinded by the beauty and cuteness, but they weren’t spared. All in all, grownups tend to have lower resists to a baby’s wishes and demands, it seems…

Of course, the baby couldn’t have made its journey without its dearest friend Gumby. Having been thrown to the floor some million times, spewed upon and used to hit the table, he had to be very sturdy and survived even the meanest attempts to get past him to stop the baby. After what seemed years, but were only days, the baby finally finished the Prime Evils, but Tyrael intervened and destroyed the Worldstone himself, robbing the baby of its personal revenge. Instead, people began worshipping it as their Guardian. But the baby is not done yet. Not till mankind is destroyed. It has heard, that Diablo will walk the earth once again soon…

*worst pun ever, I know:coffee:

The idea
Being a father since some weeks myself, my wife and I had several talks about the bad sight of our daughter. When I read about the necessity to equip either Darksight Helm or Sigon’s Visor, I discovered the –Light Radius on the first one and thought about building a character with as much negative modifier to Light Radius as possible. I found out that the lowest LR you could get was -12 (and updated the wiki) and chose items to meet that threshold: Darksight Helm (-4), Cresent Moon Amulet (-2), Gloom Dusk Shroud (-3), Nosferatus’s Coil (-3). At first, I experimented with an upped Umbral Disk (to Luna - even had it already socketed) and Highlord’s Wrath instead of Crescent Moon, till I noticed, that Hit Blinds Target and Life Tap don’t work well together and I’d lose the -2 Light Radius from Umbral Disk as soon as I used the weapon switch. That’s why I went with Moser’s Blessed Circle and Darkforce Spawn instead (and Crescent Moon Amulet).

That’s only half of the idea though. The rest was based on our sleepless nights: People would always say about our daughter: “She’s so cute! So lovely! And so good and quiet! I could take her with me right now!” and we used to respond: “Go ahead – as soon as night falls, you will beg us to take her back…”. So I thought: Well, being parents can be a nightmare, too…the lost sleep, the smell, the cries…we look like zombies some days, but still we have the unbreakable wish to be there with the baby and unconditional love, no matter how bad some nights (or nappies) might be :) That's where the idea of the Rogue merc as mother came from. (Disclaimer: I really love my daughter dearly and have no bad feelings whatsoever about her. But life with a baby is not as shiny and easy a life as non-parents picture it either. Hence the introduction of a baby in the Horror theme).

Gear
My main goal (besides the –Light Radius) was to get AR (AR charms, Raven Frost, Rare ring with AR, Argent Jewels, Demon Limb), then resists (Scintillating charms, Um rune) while keeping true to the idea. Plus, I needed a lot of IAS for the zerker axe (used the only 3 argent jewels of Fervor I had). There weren’t as many items as I wished there would be for the baby theme (Orphan’s Call sprang to mind, but it offers a lot of +Light Radius…), so I filled the spots in question with items to make the build somehow viable (IK boots and gloves for example). Here’s a list of the items I used:
  • Upped Blackbog’s Sharp Fanged Knife (“Dol”) /Darkforce Spawn (“Um”)
  • Weapon switch: Doom Berserker Axe/upped Baby’s Moser’s Blessed Circle(2 Argent Jewels of Fervor)
  • Pre-Combat-Boost: Demon Limb for the AR.
  • Baby’s Darksight Helm (Argent Jewel of Fervor)
  • Baby’s Dusk Shroud “Gloom”
  • Nosferatu’s Coil
  • Immortal King’s Forge
  • Immortal King’s Pillar
  • Crescent Moon Amulet
  • Raven Frost Ring (for the AR…)/Rare Ring Chaos Touch

Skills
I had to use mainly Poison and/or cold, so I used only Poison Nova/Dagger/Explosion and Doom (cold) as well as Clay Golem, because it fit my idea (and besides: Clay Golems aren’t exactly killing machines, if you know what I mean…)

Gameplay
-12 Light Radius left me with no light whatsoever on the character. Additionally, I only played the character after dark, because that’s the time babies start to be awake and keep you awake. I thought about only walking instead of running (babies aren’t too fast after all), but dismissed the idea as soon as I tried it out (gosh! Did the journey take long walking!!!). So what? Sue me! I mean, subtract style points! 😉

I was able to equip everything I wanted to equip at level 69 (upped Blackbog’s Sharp), which was in Act 5 NM. Up till then the game was very easy, because Poison Nova really is overpowered, and the Baby used its favorite rattle "Bonesnap", first as Maul, then as War Club. Once I got Blackbog’s Sharp and Darkforce Spawn, things got even worse for my enemies. 30% FCR is enough for Poison Nova/Explosion, and Poison Dagger is great with “Hit causes monster to flee” (Dol Rune in Blackbog’s Sharp). Poison Explosion's radius is somewhat small, so Poison Nova was the main skill used, except for difficult enemies, where I didn’t want to get too close too often (higher damage, longer duration). Poison Dagger was used against bosses, on switch with Doom and Life Tap or Lower Resists or Decrepify, depending on what was needed.

The curses, the Holy Freeze aura from Doom and Silence on my merc made this a very safe character, esp. as Gumby got stronger and stronger. He could handle some boss packs even on /p5 in Hell, but most of the time /p1 was more than enough. The Ancients were actually a piece of cake: Decrepify and slow from Gumby to separate them, then Decrep/Life Tap and Poison Dagger/Doom/shooting from my merc to take them down one by one. The hardest fight was probably NM Lister on /p8. I didn’t have a sturdy Clay Golem back then and those guys are immune to some curses, so it was a lot of hit and run (IIRC Lister was extra fast).

Overall, it was a fun character and I was surprised by the killing speed of Poison Nova and my merc…Silence really is an option for an Act 1 merc in my books from now on, even if the “hit blinds target” mod overrides curses – but only from one monster most of the time, because the merc concentrates fire on one target. The chance to flee from the Dol rune and Silence were a nice addition, too, especially with the poison damage and added safety. The chance to cast Dim Vision from Gloom was a life saver in two or three situations, too. So all in all I’m glad I tried something different for a change and am proud to announce my first Doom Guardian :jig:
