Hello everyone,

I think it is a very nice tournament idea and I am glad to join it. It was quite a break for me in D2. However, it is going to be my first HC character - Ghostlosity, a summoner Necromancer.

I already passed Act 1 and received a couple of nice items:

I'm in with an assassin who will use fire traps/blade fury. I started her last night, and unfortunately didn't look at the most recent table, so her name is almost the same as Grisu's character. I'll have to see if I can come up with a new name.

She's been going along at /p3, and fireblast is chewing everything up nicely, including her mana bulb. She's been putting hard points in energy, which may not be the best long-term strategy, but has made early Act 1 much less tedious than it otherwise would have been.

@Wolron: Are strength and hp calculated from starting hp/str, and do they include magical bonuses?

I went to my ATMA file of runeword items. The Stealth Ghost armor that I found there has the following name:

Stealth
Ghost Armor
Tal Eth

Thus the name of the item has five words in it. One of those words is "Ghost". It passes the test and it usable.

Arch-Angel does not pass the test because (as you point out) Angel is not at the beginning of a word.

Yes, you were a bit inappropriate. But, looking at the character names, I noticed that you were not the only one. Remember that the letters must be at the beginning of a word.

3. 'Stealth' Ghost Armor (RW)
4. Wraith Spike (rare javelin)

6. Strangely_Frail's Skin of the Vipermagi

All of these except the last one are fine. For armor, the name continues until the "DEFENSE: 111" line for that Stealth Ghost Armor that I commented on earlier.

Skoolbus!!!!!


Considering the recent discussion of names, you must realize that your character name does not pass the test. Amber_Ghost will not work because Ghost must be at the beginning. Yes, I know that DII requires that underscore in the name and you really would have wanted to name her "Amber Ghost". Unfortunately the DII underscore causes this name to not pass the test based on the rule that the first letters of a word must be one of the four words. Note that Arch-Angel also does not pass the test for a similar reason.

Roger that, Wolron. I'll keep on going with Strangely_Frail despite her name. She, as well as many other Sins, went with trap skills.

She started off with an ethereal spear socketed with chipped sapphire. Blade Sentinel worked nicely at first, but started losing power later in act 1. Now in act 2 it only serves her as poison applier.
I'm planning to get her a nice Death Sentry and 1pt Blade fury, but after that I'll probably focus my skills on Discipline tree. Dragon Flight could help with repositioning, but I doubt I'll find a proper claw very soon. 'Strength' RW is on her wishlist. She has an ethereal 2os wrist blade but is missing the runes.

I have 55 stat points unused. Haven't bothered to check the possible weapon base item requirements, mainly claws, to determine how much I should keep for dexterity.

Wraithel's progress through act 1 continued to be entertaining. Things improved dramatically once she started finding a few ethereal weapons. She found her fair share of spears, spiked clubs and a sword or two. An ethereal throwing axe, used in melee, seemed to last the longest.

Her first interesting find came after fighting Treehead. Her weapong broke on the last strike, and she was absolutely baffled by her luck when he dropped these. They will be saved until she has a ranged weapon to use.

In the tower, she met a monster whose name implied that he had been a pervious contestant in the tourney. She has decided to play it single-pass style, so was happy enough to get a Tal from the countess.

Strangling Gas Potions turned out to be very handy for a while, helping to apply some AoE damage to mobs. She found a nice Beryl Jewel of Envy which she put in her Rogue's helm. Later in the Pit, she found a Pluckeye short bow for her as well.

Going was generally slow and cautious, mostly due to the lack of any belts dropping. She was holding out on using her imbue in the hopes of finding one, but it never happened.

On entering Andy's level, she noticed a nice well right by the stairs, so she decided that in lieu of a belt, she would bring Andy to the well. And Andy dropped what? More nice zon gloves? Again, they can't be used yet, but they sure give her a reason to want to get to act 5.

Knowing that she will never return to act 1, she used her imbue on an eth skull cap. Nothing great, but it did get self repair.

She is now ready to tackle the sewers and gain her stash. She has made a point of saving chipped diamonds, so is also looking forward to cubing a merc stick when (if) that time comes.

Spirit_Rod has continued his journey onward. Act 2 went by rather smoothly, though I left the act with nothing on other than rings, amulet, and my repair durability shield and belt(wirt's leg really doesn't count) and my new repair durability ethereal studded leather armor that dropped in one of the false tombs. Nothing was to difficult and I leveled up to 28 or 29.

Act 3 finally allowed a few items to be aquired. A two socket Hard Leather Armor Eth dropped which I used to make a Stealth. later on a 2OS Spirit Mask dropped which provided +3 carrion vine. I went and killed Mephisto at level 31 then went and mopped up two more of the kurast bunkers to put me 15k away from 32, which I hit instantly in act4 upon killing a couple mobs off to the side.

Playing is getting a bit rough, as I decided to only place 5 points in both wolves, 1 in Heart of Wolverine, and I'm going to place 10 in Dire Bear, leaving me with over 20 points once I get to nightmare to spend on a windy druid(I've never played one but it seems to be a solid idea for this tournament) I am thinking I'll be underleveled for a normal tournament normal done with by a few levels because I am probably going to adjust it done, hopefully I can pick them up on the later end in NM.

(I have 30strength used, but can go up to mid 40's with some ease if something nice drops.)

Considering how inept I am at doing anything a bit new, and also considering that people seem to be doing fine with the single thread, I am not going to make a separate thread for comments. Strangely_Frail found her first self-repairing ethereal item during her journey in Act 2; boots with PLR by 25%. Other than that, she's only wearing a broken sash and her weapon. It's hot in the desert, you know. Her killing method is her mercenary. With Savage Bill (cubed), Haseen deals mighty amount of damage and mows through the skeletons like and old lawn mower mows through too tall grass. I help him with blade fury if I see it necessary. I don't deal a lot of damage, but my weapon, ethereal 'Steel' Scimitar opens wounds quite effectively.

Well, I thought of a new name for my assassin: Angela. There seemed to be a strange lack of angel prefix names, and after I noticed that, the name seemed obvious.

She has yet to find *any* ethereal boots, but all of her other slots at least have something in them. Her weapon is a set of rare ethereal balanced knives, nothing special except -20 WSM. She spent her normal imbue on an ethereal body armor, also in the 'better than nothing' category. She stopped running countess after 2 Rals, but she had enough runes to make a 'Nadir' helm as soon as a 2os ethereal helm dropped.

Spirit_Bull has made the Horadric Staff and is ready to enter the Palace. He has 492 life, level 25, 36 strength and has found 15 waypoints. That adds up to 361 points.

He has been using a rare ethereal large ax with auto repair on it (charci imbue). He will be using the Horadric Staff until he gets to the tomb now because it is faster, gets almost as much damage and has good resistances on it. The only other lasting item is a pair of rare boots with auto repair on them. No "Named" items have been found yet, but I wonder if I will actually be aware of it if I do come across one.

I have noticed the scores and wonder why I am higher than others who are way ahead of me. I guess it must be that the barbarian gets a lot of life. I have put a lot of points in Vitality.

Well, on March 1 my Scavenger Hunt tournament ended -and my Skunkbelly character got killed. So that seems to have cleared up some playing time to join this tournament.

I 've decided to try something fun that I know is a long shot to make it through Hell: A Molten Boulder Druid. Named GhostOfAChance. I will play elemental tree first, to be different than Vang's Summoner Druid, and I will pump points into Boulder, Firestorm and Volcano. In NM, if I make it, I will put points into Grizzly and Dire Wolves. That's about it!

Molten Boulder is loads of fun to play and has two damage types -fire and physical. It also has knockback which is handy for a fragile character. It has a cast delay of 2 secs so I may be doing firestorm or a weakly synergized volcano between boulders (or use a ranged weapon, if I can find one with these weird rules.) Of course, the drawback with Molten Boulder is low damage! So I hope my Merc gets uber gear!!

Started out and made clvl 6 and cleaned out the Den of Evil before I had an eth item drop. GhostOfAChance now has an eth Handaxe and eth Buckler. Hoohah! And at lvl 6 he has a level 1 Molten Boulder - which at this point of the game is a Weapon of Mass Destruction.
