Duriel takes the Dirt Nap!

Yes, 'tis true. SirScrounge the Summoner skipped jauntily through Act2 on /p8, and the skellies simply tore through everything in their path. Duriel took a bit of time, my merc weapon was a 3 socket scythe that I stuffed some chippies into. (Yikes!) I was down to 3 skellies and thinking about a trip to town to make some new ones when Duriel graciously threw in the towel. My drops all along had been profoundly poor, and I was fretting over choosing the Berserker's Headgear for my merc or a pair of blue 15% MF boots for myself. Duriel then dropped a decent roll on Hawkmail, though, and I decided that the Cannot Be Frozen for myself would be valulable in the days ahead. Leaving all else behind, he's off for a date in Kurast with Mephisto.

Blaen has now killed little D. As usual nothing dropped just a bunch of rares none useful. I didn't find anything good this act nothing that I would wish to keep. Therefore I am going to go with a 2 socketed mask for my merc.

The Ancients, Baal's Minions then Baal himself came and went under the hammer and anvil that are Seeker and Waheed.

Unlike Act V, there were riches aplenty this time, and it really became another difficult decision. It was between the Duskdeep I was wearing and a nice pair of rare gloves, until all of a sudden, something in the Cow Kingdom dropped a gold ammy...The Eye of Etlich made an already tough decision something all the nastier, +1 skills, 6%LL and cold damage...what's not to like?

In the end though, it came down to the following: Can I replace the attributes of the ammy elsewhere and what are the chances of me finding a nicer set of gloves given minimal gambling cash. The helm, although excellent, was the first eliminated as i hold out hope for a nice Barb helm, even IK's one would do fine.

I went for the gloves. I can get leech from the weapon, have cold damage from a charm, and should find an ok +Barb Skills ammy eventually. Let me present them:

The killing was going really slow towards the end, but I persisted on players 8. My merc was doing the bulk of it, so when we get to the stage where he's overmatched (which will be soon), I could be in trouble. What I was thinking when I went for thrown weapons in a low money tourney I'll never know! I wish I hadn't put those 12 points in Thrown Mastery early on, as I feel committed now.

Packrat has killed Duriel and moved on to Act 3NM.

The souvenir for Act 2NM is the Iron Pelt unique Trellised Armor. Two unique shields were also found ("The Ward" gothic shield and "Lance Guard" Barbed shield). However, I am waiting for a really good Paladin Shield with 3 or 4 sockets.

SirScrounge sighed heavily and embarked through the jungles of Kurast. Honestly, is there anyplace more frustrating? Flayers and Shamans and Gloams, Oh My! 1/2 hour spent clearing through the Great Marsh, only to come to a dead end! Silly me, I should have realized that the Flayer Jungle was right off the Spider Forest, that the Great Marsh was just a side jaunt. Ugh! So, after putting on his Adidas, he ran the length and breadth of the jungle to get going again. Found the miscellaneous body parts and called it a night at the Lower Kurast WP.

The interesting thing this round was the drops. Found a 2 os eth poleaxe for the merc, a fine rare armor for him as well. Scrounge found a nice 2 os helm and a kickin' demon head. Is any of it end game? Probably not. but very useful right now. If only that poleaxe had 3 sockets...

Packrat has packed it in!

Packrat was in the 2nd level of the durance of hate. Stygian dolls were being a real pain. He had learned how to kill them carefully to avoid being destroyed when they died. However, while he was finishing off a couple thrashers, Stygian dolls snuck up on him and were killed by his whirling hammers. Their unexpected deaths were too much for packrat and he will long be remembered for his courage.

If he had finished the NM Act 3, his souvenir would have been a Protector Shield with 89 Cold Resistance and 78 for all other resists (with the help of two socketed perfect diamonds). That shield solved his resistance problems completely, but it did not solve his doll problems.

Deathfinder moves on to Act 2 Normal

Deathfinder has defeated Andariel. Of course, there were no good items dropped. He found the Knell Striker early in Act 1 and found two Infernal Cranium's on the same drop. The infernal Cranium was tempting because of the possibility of also finding the belt and wand later, but in the end, the +25% crushing blow on the Knell Striker looked more useful in the long term. When his minions are having trouble killing something, that (in the offhand) should let him help out a little. In addition, the unique item can be upgraded to get more damage. The set items cannot be upgraded.

DeathFinder Moves on to Act 3

DeathFinder has maxed out Skeleton Mastery and will begin to develop skeletons in greater numbers (only 4 so far). The clay golem is used occasionally, but no skill points have been invested beyond the intial one. Two skeletal mages are also being used.

DeathFinder defeated Duriel. It was not easy though. Three times he had to go back and develop another set of minions.

The decision on the Act 2 souvenir was between the Biggins Bonnet and the Nokozan relic amulet. Since Deathfinder wants an amulet with +2 summoning, the bonnet was selected to be used by the mercenary. The merc will probably remain an Act 1 rogue merc for the time being, but I may get and Act2 NM merc if I live so long.

Being rarely able to play, I have not posted in a while, but over that time have been gradually working my way through act II. I wonder at the speed of Wolron, whose 2nd character is now ahead of my first!
Yesterday, finally getting some uninterrupted time, I took Nimradel through the Canyon of the Maji and all the Tombs of Tal Rasha. When angered or scared she forgets about Mana conservation and can unleash massive damage. Duriel at /players 8 took perhaps 20 seconds, 10 of those because Nim was trying to static him from his rear (level 1 static does not seem to reach him from there).

MF peaking as she reached the end of the act, this final session yielded by far the best haul of Nimmie's short career, both in numbers and quality. Among her finds were Cathan's Seal, Hsarus's Iron Stay, The Diggler, Razortine, and from Duriel, Death's Hand. Of these, Pratham wielded Razortine, with it's powerful slowing, to good effect, while Nim found a use for Hsarus's Belt (and belatedly, Death's Hand). A Ral rune also dropped, but unfortunately the act expired before Nim could locate a 2-socketed staff for Leaf.

Leafless, the decision on a souvenir swiflty came down to a choice between the two set items, Hsarus's Iron Stay belt (20% cold resist, +20 life) and Death's Hand gloves (+50% poison resist, poison length reduced by 75%). Not a tough call, and she went with the gloves.

DeathFinder arrives in Lower Kurast

DeathFinder has not found his yet. Starting Act3 with just the Knell Striker was a bit terrifying, so DF bought a +80% plate mail at the docks. He also gambled for some gloves, a belt and a pair of boots. Nothing special, but it felt better starting out with some clothes on. After the Gidbin was found, he hired a new merc named "Scorch". Quite an interesting name for a cold spell caster! Scorch enjoyed the first good find in Act 3, the "StormGuild" unique large shield. That may end up being the Act 3 Souvenir if nothing better turns up. A rare splint male was then discovered on the body of a dead shaman. Scorch is very pleased to wear that along with the biggins bonnet picked up in Act2.

Well, now to tame the wretched beasts in Kurast. Hopefully they will carry something truly "Unique".

DeathFinder has killed Mephisto. And now I remember why I hate to play necromancers. All the skeletons were dead and Mr. M was only down to about half health. AFter that it was just me and my act 3 cold merc. It took a while and I had to go back to town twice to grab more full rejuv potions out of my stash. Well, now I have a lot more room in my stash!

The Act 3 souvenir was between three different shields. The Stormguild unique large shield won out over the Steel guild unique kite shield and a nice bone shield.

Deathfinder has thrown away all items except for his potions, his charms, his scroll tomes and these three beautiful souvenirs. :shocked:

RIP DeathFinder! Your stamina is astounding, dear Wolron!

SirScrounge finally got off his lazy derriere and resumed his questing. After finding all of the body parts, he and his army made quick work of The Causeway and Travincal. The Compelling Orb was smashed to smithereens, opening the way to Mephisto. Things had been going smoothly, so on into the Durance. Again, not much trouble. An interesting thing happened, I'd never seen this before. My merc got seperated from the rst of us in a central room, and as we explored he never teleported to catch up. I watched his health, and nothing was going on, so I just figured we'd circle around in a bit. Skellies were taking care of everything anyway. When we finally got back to the merc, the room he was in was full of dead monsters! He had tanked everything solo, and somehow the game carried that aspect on without Scrounge's ever having been in the room. I didn't know that was possible, I thought monsters generated as you entered an area. Anyway, down to level 3. Cleared the left side, then dashed out to confront Mephisto. By the time he was down to half strength, I was down to my merc and two mages. Merc was at full health, though, and I had not yet used any purples, so Scrounge just decided to see what the merc could do. Kep[t Decrep and Gumby on Meph, fed the merc a purple every now and then, and voila! One deceased Prme Evil. My reward? Not a darn thing. Junk rares. I certainly had nothing worth keeping for end game (though I did think seriously about the merc's 2 os eth poleaxe) the only interesting thing I found in Act 3 was a Manald Heal ring...useless, pretty much, for a Summoner. In the end, I sacrificed the merc's weapon and kept my boots...10% FHR, 19% MF, 26% Fire resist, 10% Poison resist, 10% chance to cast L3 charged bolt on striking. Slim pickings, indeed.

Tramp freezes Andariel and moves on.

Tramp has defeated Andariel. It was not easy though. She lost her merc a couple times and had to return to town for merc and mana potions. Nonetheless, victory was had and Tramp has hopped a freight to Lut Gholein.

The souvenir selection was very difficult. When Andariel died, she dropped a unique long staff and Tramp thought that would be her souvenir. However, on close inspection she discovered it was "Serpent Lord". That item has +100% mana stolen per hit, +50 poison resist, +10 to mana, +11 poison damage over 3 seeconds, -50% target defense, 150% damage to undead, -1 light radius, +31% enhanced damage (2-10). Since there were no +skills on "Serpent Lord", it was not an obvious winner.

The other possible choices were:
My embued "Loath Lock" rare belt: +1STR, +5%LR, +20%CR, 10% Faster HR
Russet Ring: +17 FR
Triumphant Ring of the Apprentice: +10% Faster Cast Rate, +1 to mana each kill
2 Socketed Short staff to use later to RUNEWORD a "Leaf" staff. That staff had +2 to inferno, +2 to ice blast, +1 charged bolt, and 150% damage to UD

I had purchased the 2 socketed staff because I thought that it might be a good way to go for a souvenir.

I quickly eliminated the two rings from consideration. Then I decided to eliminate one of the staves. "Serpent Lord" would be good as an off-hand weapon because it would allow me to regain mana and also do a little damage at the same time. The future "leaf" staff could have a little better spell skills on it, but It would give me +8 inferno, +6 warmth, +2 to iceblast which will help "blizzard" later, +6 fire bolt and a big + to defense based on character level. I choose the "Serpent Lord" staff because it would someday become the offhand weapon. THat gives me a chance to find a really good "cold spell" staff later on.

Finally, I had to decide to go with the belt or the staff. The belt is lousy, but the staff seems to be too poor to commit to at this point in the game.

Well, I chose the staff for the obvious reason. It really is a nice souvenir of the Andariel battle and it will look real nice hanging on my virtual wall when this tournament is over!

Well I started off going and once I got to Outer Cloustier I started to wonder if I was going to actually have to imbue some merc armor. Well, my brain didn't let me down. Andariel dropped Leadcrack or some lame light xbow unique and a couple junk rares. Shopped some mail and got a horrible imbue! Go me! My merc is going to be happy :jig:
