No major problems thus far. Of course, no really useful items either.

Packrat is probably going to imbue a belt to get his souvenir for Act 1. Of course, some great item my be just over the horizon, so he has not committed to that yet. Another possibility is the merc. If I could find a good piece of armor or helm with a few sockets, that would be a harmless way to get by the act 1 souvenir. Of course, it costs a lot of money to resurrect a merc, so giving him a rather useless piece of armor may not be smart. Yes, this is going to be one dilemma after another!

* Note, sorry about name of WP location...mindblank on the name of the dungeon. ;)

So, I upgraded to a Defiance Merc in the desert town, equipped him with a brandistock and myself with a throwing axe courtesy of Fara, as well as a 40% GF light belt, I figured that would pay itself off very quickly, then headed down into the sewers. Managed to slowly but surely hide my shame and in the end slew the Undead Lord in the depths.

Headed out into the desert with no problems at all thus far. Resistances are abysmal, but fortunately there were no lightning bugs so far, but I'm sure they're not far off.

Ended after getting the cube, always a highlight, particularly with a stash overflowing with gems and potions waiting to be transmuted. Only drop so far in Act II was the unique Axe, certainly not a candidate for a permanent souvenir, so the eyes stay open. I've started horking the majority of monsters looking for those most fitting of adornments, but with a measly single point in the skill, pickings are lean.

Packrat - Act 2 with Hsarus' Iron Stay and Wirt's leg

Packrat had to take on Andariel alone. That rogue archer just could not keep out of her way. Since he had no use for her equipment, he simply let her rest in Paradise. That seemed to be the kindest thing since this life was none too kind to her.

Packrat had two items that he considered keeping. One was the Blood Crescent unique scimitar. It had very fast attack speed, +15 to all resistances, 15% life stolen per hit, 33% chance of open wounds, +15 to life, +4 light radius. It was tempting because of the resistances and the life stolen. However, resistances should not be a big problem with a Paladin, and the life stolen only works when you use the weapon (I think); since Packrat will be attacking with Blessed Hammer, I decided to discard the Blood Crescent. The item that I finally kept is the Hsarus’ Iron Stay belt. It will match up well with a Hsarus’ boots if Packrat can find them. They seem to turn up quite often, so it is worth a shot.

ScavengingSkunk has defeated Andariel. Along the way, she found four unique items, including a grailer: pluckeye. Despite the beauty of these items, though, she felt compelled to save…Death’s Sash! Despite her blonde hair, ScavengingSkunk is a goth at heart. And now, she can’t be frozen… ever. It was a tough decision between the sash and either a craftable amulet or pair of gloves, but in the end, the idea of knowing for sure that I have that very important CBF mod won out. I’d love to wait for a Rhyme shield, but who knows if I’ll ever find the necessary Shael rune, in an untwinked, no-repeating-areas tournament? It’s unlikely.

So Death’s Sash it is. I look forward to buying some better gear in Act 2… though I cannot decide whether to stick with my loyal Rogue merc, or move up to an act 2 merc. We’ll see soon enough.

Not much to report, but I realized that I had used an obsolete table.

Nimradel's heedless flight has brought her to the Rogue Camp, wherein she has found an unlooked-for welcome in their dire need. For in Akara's kindly voice she hears neither doubt nor accusation, but the faintest dawning of a hope renewed.

The big bug has been squashed, and for a change I had a bit of a dilemna to decide which souvenir to keep.

It was out of Deathspade (unique Axe) which had served me well, Sander's Taboo gloves which were dropped by the big bug (along with another green and 2 yellows :shocked: ), and a rare spiked shield. I've decided to go with the shield...for better or worse. I'm probably stupid, but then I've never looked into breakpoints very much and have no idea...but passing up on 20% IAS from the end of Act II onwards... :dunce:

A quick update: Both Blood Raven and Coldcrow are dead, and Nimradel has befriended a young Rogue by the name of Shikha. Her ice arrows are proving a deadly complement to Nim's firebolts.

The pressure is on to quickly crank the MF at the beginning of each act, yet true to form I have so far been granted only a single chipped topaz...

SirScrounge heads for the desert

He's moving right along, proud of the prowess that his minions are displaying on the battlefield. Act 1 ended up being a laughing matter entirely, until Andariel. Her poison attack wiped out the skellies about halfway through, but a quick trip back up to L3 in the Catacombs replenished the supply. You could almost sense her disbelief when he returned with fresh troops, and she succombed very meekly. I mean that, I have never seen such a poor drop by an Act boss. Had I not been so incredulous, I might have rememberd to take a snapshot of it to show you all, as everyone needs a good joke by Thursday. He imbued his Prserved Head with Charsi...he shouldn't have bothered. I had 3 items that I was torn between, my Hotspur Boots for the extreme fire resist, a nice 26% GF 14% MF ring, and a Torch of Io wand. Points greed got the better of me, so I kept the wand, though I do miss that ring.

Scrounge ran around with as much GF as he could muster, so he went to Lut Gholein with a decent amount of liquidity. He quickly bid adieu to the trusty rogue and signed up an Act 2 Defensive merc. A trip to the gambling hall netted a decent scythe for the merc and a passable rare belt for himself. The sewers spawned very favorably (no Undead Archers - Yay!), and they were cleared very easily, with Radamant getting a real learning in the managment of a Skeleton army. The rest of our equipment was filled out from monster drops...a passable pair of chain boots, a 3 os mail and 2 os skull cap for Scrounge and a nice eth ring mail and Berserkers Headgear for the merc. The duo raced through and got the cube, and finally rested before beginning the assualt on the Far Oasis. Whew! He's now taking a look at his stash of gems and Jewels, trying to see what would be best to socket into his gear. It'll probably end up being Topazezez (Whatever). Stats:

Waypoints: 13 x 1 = 13
Quests: 7 x 2 = 14
Level: 23 = -23
Total = 5 (Hooray, positive numbers!)

On to the update...

ScavengingSkunk has defeated Duriel. The big bug fell easily to Charged Strike. His drops were complete crap, as one would imagine… what use what an overgrown slug have with things of beauty?

SS then had a quandary. She’d need to lighten her load before moving on to Kurast. But what to keep as a souvenir of her victory? She had two sets of Gorefoot boots, which were useful for their mana leech and FRW. She had a Razortine trident, which she’d planned to use on Duriel (25% slow), but didn’t need. She had a decent pair of rare gloves, for a low-level character: 17% cold resistance and 70% more gold from monsters (a big bonus in this tournament). And finally, she had her precious shield, crafted in ancient times from the bones of various fell beasts:

Chance to Block: 65%

Well, the squid nknocked out my lengthy update, so looks like I'll start over.

SirScrounge the Summoner laughed in the face of danger in all of Act 1 at p8. Andariel was no real worry, her poison finally knocked out the skellies when her life had ebbed by 2/3. A quick trip back up to L3 of the Catacombs to relaod, and I swear you could see her sigh in weariment as the attack re-newed. She succombed with not even a whimper. Really, I have never seen such a poor boss drop. Had I not been so astonished I would have snapped a picture of it to post for you all. He then imbued his necro head, and got...nothing! Really shouldn't have bothered.

3 items were casuing consternation...what to keep? Hotspur Boots for the powerful fire resistance boost, Torch Of Iro for the plus skills and mana regen, or the +26% GF +14% MF ring? I wanted the ring, but the hunger for points won out. Keeping the torch, SirScrounge dropped everything else and took the caravan East.

He quickly bid adieu to his trusty fire rogue and enlisted the aid of Haziz, a desert mercenary with a special knack for defense. He and the skellies blasted through the sewers and annhilated Radamant, then headed out into the desert. Found the cube in the Dry Hills, and proceeded into the Far Oasis. Next up: The Maggot Lair. Not the best place for skellies, will probably just unsummon everything and hide behind the merc.

ScavengingSkunk has defeated Duriel. The big bug fell easily to Charged Strike. His drops were complete crap, as one would imagine… what use what an overgrown slug have with things of beauty?

SS then had a quandary. She’d need to lighten her load before moving on to Kurast. But what to keep as a souvenir of her victory? She had two sets of Gorefoot boots, which were useful for their mana leech and FRW. She had a Razortine trident, which she’d planned to use on Duriel (25% slow), but didn’t need. She had a decent pair of rare gloves, for a low-level character: 17% cold resistance and 70% more gold from monsters (a big bonus in this tournament). And finally, she had her precious shield, crafted in ancient times from the bones of various fell beasts:

ScavengingSkunk has defeated Mephisto… in fact, she used his mangy corpse to mop up some of the cobwebs around the Durance, which really isn’t such a bad place… a few potted plants, a little more light, and it’d make a nice pad. But unfortunately, we couldn’t stay. We couldn’t even retain any of the nice loot he dropped… including a pair of Chance Guards, which under other circumstances would be one of the best possible items in this tournament. No, we wouldn’t keep those, because a couple of WPs earlier, we crafted these beauties, which will be our Act 3 souvenir:

By the way, did I mention I’m using an Iron Wolf? Scorch, the act 3 cold merc, is a terrific addition to the party. I already have a tank (my valk), so now I have some nice firepower backing me up. Working very well so far, and if it isn’t working well in act 2 NM, I can always switch to a Holy Freeze merc there.

I've now journeyed to the City of the Damned WP, and defeated Izzy. I'm having noticeable gold problems now... the kind of equipment you can purchase in Act 4 is much more expensive than what you can purchase in earlier acts (all plate mails and fancy hats, grumble). Plus I tried to gamble some good boots... no luck at all, and wasted about $70K. So my gold stash has dwindled from well over $200K to about $14K, and I'm having to purchase potions about as quickly as I find gold. I had over 200% gold find in act 3, but only about 60% now, and I'm feeling the pinch. Sigh. Next time, I just won't buy any gear for the act 3 merc... since he's a ranged attacker, I should've made him wait until I found items he could equip.

OK, I have tried to find the last state of everyone's character. I have probably missed someone. If you are that someone, then update here. If you need the rules for the tournament, go back to the original thread to get them (Tournament of the Scavenger).

As for the question about unsocketing a souvenir, you cannot. You also cannot reroll an item. The only way you can change a souvenir is to add sockets, use sockets that are empty, upgrade with the cube recipe. If I have missed some other valid improvement, let me know. The key is you cannot back up and try again by unsocketing or rerolling.

Please use as short an update as possible. One theory says that when a page fills up we are vulnerable to whatever is happening that corrupts the thread. I suggest just a couple lines and then a quick score calc prior to the table. If have shortened the table by doing away with the separate RIP table. If you die, just provide a final entry in correct score order and add RIP after your score.
