My plan is to find great max damage charms in all sizes and then fill them up on a titan multizon and see how that goes :). Prefferebly the zon has a might merc with a pride stick aswell :) Though i need to find me a super bow aswell..

So i was thinking abit about the imbue quest. What do you think is a good idea to imbue?

I was thinking claws, harpoons,

IMO, imbuing weapons in 1.07 is a waste: Cruel and Ferocious are magic-only affixes, so the highest +%ED affix would be Merciless (+81-100%ED), and Grandmaster's, Master's, and (I think) King's are also magic only...Lord's (+101-120AR/+66-80%ED) is possible, but even if I'm wrong about King's, the MAXIMUM +%ED you'll get on a rare weapon is 200%. Likewise, the +maxdam suffixes of Evisceration and of Butchery are magic-only, so the highest +maxdam is +20 (of Slaughter).

If only there were some way to imbue circlets, but they are always at least blue (i.e. Unimbueable) and there is no way to craft one either...

Staffmod items might be a decent choice, but not as good as in later patches, claws in particular...from the 1.08 patch.txt file:

Boots are a decent choice, as tri-res boots can spawn and are always nice. Gloves and Belts might also be nice, but crafts are likely to be better. Shields can get decent mods, but remember that the +blocking affixes don't have FBR in 1.07...

I'm thinking that it might be good to use imbues on crafted jewelery that rolled poorly. The much higher resulting ilvl might offset the magic-only affix advantage that crafts have. At one point, I had planned to use imbues on bad roll crafted amulets to try for +2 skills ammys, but rare ammys can't get +2 class skills :(


On a completely different note, I am finally able to say for certain: The ONLY sheilds in 1.07 that can get 4sox are Pally shields :weep::hang::unimpressed:

I have question - is there any place where is list of all areas where racks can spawn? I want to squeeze most of my map as possible :)

I know countess tower, in act 1, over all act 3 cities, inside of those temples and meph durance and obviously halls of ___ in act 5. I found nothing in act 2 and act 4 tho.

EDIT: Found some racks in Mausoleum (act1) but not in Crypt. Perhaps it depends on map seeds as well...

I don't believe there is such a list, though it would be great to compile one, with area lvls and such...

I do know that there are usually racks in the Jail/Catacomb areas of Act1, and there are always racks in the Stony Tomb, and Halls of the Dead in Act2, plus they often occur in the Palace Cellar and the Tombs (both false and true). I have occasionally found them in the City of the Damned and RoF in Act4, but not often...Act5 will often get racks in the cold cave areas, as well

Map seed DEFINITELY affects both whether there are racks and where they are...

A couple of months ago, I had to dual boot my macbook pro, and now am in possession of a winXP SP3 OS on a separate partition. I thought, upon seeing this thread, why not try out 1.07 ?

So I'll state my objectives, having installed the game from the original cd's, and remembering how much of a pain it is to get that CD in the drive, especially as it's a laptop, and I can't always play only at home... Nor do I wish to take the CD everywhere. Oh well. Back to objectives.

In order of importance :
-Valkyrie Wing
-MPK rings
-SoJ's (any kind. Maybe the added resists ones ? At least, regular ones.)
-Ravenclaw (shouldn't be too hard)
-1.07 eth bases
-mass leach crafts
-I usually take a look at ALL charms anyway... :)

And after that, I suppose I'll move forward to 1.09, and do some HF rushing. Or maybe stay in 1.07 to do it ? (When did they add the ancients level minimum ?)

And at some point (after a cow'd 99er perhaps ?) go to 1.10beta for the awesome runewords.

And I suppose that by the time I get my hands on some nice 1.07 gear, diablo 3 will be out, and the heck with it all, I won't have even started time travelling... :P

The nice thing is, I have my 1.13 chars and all on a Mac install, and the 1.07 on the XP side. Now I wonder, I can safely move forward from an XP save to a Mac save ? They don't differ in any way from what I understand, as GoMule works fine on Mac, and ATMA looks ok for 1.07. I suppose I'll be asking the moving forward questions later, once I get my first char anywhere near crafting heights and/or some nice twinking gear. (MPK/Ravenclaw)

Welcome GRD!

Not a Mac user so I can't help with any of that, but I think it is all fine.

Those are some good goals pretty common ones for the most part.

I think if anything, soj's in 107 will be a LOT harder to find, given the terrible monster drops. Getting one by the cube would be just awesome! I have never actually seen anybody post one, they would be really rare. If my math is right I think like 1/31,000 for a cubing of high enough level.

I would definitely take them at least to 1.10(betas, maybe?)... thats when most of the magic-only affixes became available on rares at a higher alvl. Unless you are wanting to do them for the staffmods, then 1.08+ will be fine, apparently.

No problems taking DOS save files to MacOS and vice versa. I've done it with many different setups and never had a problem.

I don't think a Mara's is possible from the ilvl requirement- my recollection is that Atma's Scarab is the highest one that can pop out of the prismatic cube recipe.

Indeed, that Saracen's is wonderful. The Amp goes off often enough with a zealot or fast hitter to be pretty dependable. One slight problem is that the Iron Maiden sound is exactly the noise that most strikes fear in the hearts of fast heavy hitters, so it really takes some getting used to! Most of my (non-current tourney) play is 1.12, so there Iron Maiden is a genuine ongoing concern...

Two 1.12 characters who have loved that amulet: Siarnaq and Anthe

You are right, no mara's since Qlevel is higher than 66, so it's not possible.

I used a saracen's back in patch 1.12, that sound is just sickening, It took a lot of getting used to, even in acts 1-3 it still scares you!

I can definitely see myself using that saracen's though, very nice!

Even without the prismatic resists, the 1.07 Saracen's is much nicer than the 1.12 version, since the 1.07 version has the CtC Amp. Being better in 1.07 than 1.12 is unlike some of the 1.07 versions of jewelry- Mara's isn't as nice, Raven Frost isn't, Dwarf Star isn't, etc. Much of my 1.07 efforts were for eventual 1.12 play, so I'm constantly comparing things from that vantage point.

I have a circlet rack that I've been running for a few days. Today I found a circlet that had 30frw and 3 shadow disciplines with a rlvl of 29 in game. When I put it in atma and took it back out the rlvl now is 45. Is this normal? Clearly the 29 is bugged because 3 to tree should be rlvl 45. (No, it wasn't just atma bugged display, I clearly remember being able to put the circlet on in game (or so it said, I didn't actually try) and I'm not clvl 45 yet).

If I get another bugged circlet like this and don't put it in atma but forward it, will it stay bugged? Will it be an item allowed to be used on the forum with bugged rlvl?

I will also be bringing this to the attention of Thyiad to ask her.

does anyone know where is the earliest place to run if i'm specifically looking for +dmg charms? i.e. at which point do the highest affixes for dmg charms become available. my next question is where is the best place I can run for the charms? i.e. which area will give a good return on charms?

I'm happy with my start. Today, I went from the Inner Cloister up to Radament. And during that simple voyage, Faleen got one level, a 10th point in static field, and two notable finds. Otherwise, Andariel dropped all blue and gems, I suppose that's normal ? (no special drop... :( )

Finally, I just love the sound that gems make when they hit the ground. So much nicer than 1.13 ! I dunno, I like them.

So my journey is fun, level 15 static sorceress in luth golein, just purged the sewers. One free skill point, cuz' can't put more than "level" points in any given skill at any time. pity. She's mostly whaking away with a Scepter (6-11) socketed with two topazes (2-16 lightning) and mostly misses stuff. Trusty rogue to do the damage ! (12-44 I think)

G.R.D. (enjoying the slow pace... kinda. XP is HARD to get by.)

@Jimsfriend: that is unusual, but I have also seen this happen...if it makes you feel better, even if you had left it on the character, the rlvl would have been corrected the next time you started a game after S&E.

@Kaerion: Nightmare LK charms can get almost all +damage affixes...all are available on Grand Charms found there; all but the highest +min/+max damage prefixes(Bloody and Serrated) on Large Charms; for Small charms Bloody, Serrated, and the highest +maxdam suffix (of Maiming) will be unavailable there...but the highest ilvl required is 72 for Bloody SCs, so all are available in Hell Countess's tower...many people go ahead and push on to Hell LK, though, as charms are probably most common/easiest to get there.

@GRD: glad to hear you're making progress and enjoying it. I also really like the gem sounds in 1.07...it makes it easier to notice gem drops when farming them with a HF pally. A socketed bow with emeralds for poison damage can work wonders on the rogue, especially if you're staticing mobs down as well...
