Hey all. Nice progress going on.

It is pretty good to be sitting in 6th place on the table, but I think the next person to update should probably move Salome to the ranks of the resting heroes. I never quite seem to be inspired enough to load her up and grind out the few hours remaining to get her to 96, and I can't see that changing in the near future.

She will get to 99 one day though!

Honestly I don't know what to do with them. I recently found an eth Death Cleaver with nice ED roll. That would probably be the best (definitely most stylish) use of a Zod for me, as I only have one eth Tomby and that got 1 socket.

Obviously could go for an eBotD as well. But thanks to Grief being so OP it would need to go into something like a War Pike I guess. I do have an eth one that I could take to Larzuk, but it's not superior. Not sure yet, also will need to check my stashes for other possible eth weapons.

BTW: You really need to learn how to find rare items with the right characters, come on. Death's Web with Pally and Trapper instead of your Necro? Griffons with Pally instead of your Lightning Sorc? Fathom twice with what ended up as a Lightning Sorc, wasn't it? Seriously?

Kidding aside though, great drops and good to see your characters moving!

Inspired by the impressive loot, everyone!

Only interesting ones I have to report are Trang'Oul's gloves (keeping them; it'd be a nice trophy to finish the set up as a reward for this dude if I ever get him to 99) and Hellforge being kind enough to drop me an "Um" so far.

3 more levels for me. Some nasty lightning scares, so I've been really taking my time with the game lately. Hoping everyone has an awesome week (and loot to go along with it).

Actually, your sequence is exactly right, although Hiatus at least got to use the first Fathom for the last ~1/4 level from 97-98 before respec. And, seriously, another Zod? Amazing!

Great progress everyone, some truly amazing finds!

Nightmare started out well as we quickly found a 4os War Scythe. Four Countess runs later we had the last remaining ingredient (Sol) and made a nice Insight for the merc. With mana issues long gone, and Fissure still rolling at a devastating rate, the rest of Act 1 went smoothly and quickly and we were soon fighting Andariel. The merc died, but the bear kept her busy and she was soon dead.

And just like that, Klaus has his end-game gloves! Sweet!

Act 2 was just a blur of sand and Fissures, Duriel was kept busy by the bear, and fell to an onslaught on Volcanos. Much the same in Act 3, low health enemies who run around all over the screen? Fissure says hello. Meph took a while as he kept moving away from the Volcanos (also, Klaus' Volcanos aren't very strong since I haven't invested in the synergy yet), but before long he fell too, leaving nothing of note.

Act 4. Things caught up with us a little bit here. The fact that Klaus hasn't changed most of his gear since act 1/2 in normal, combined with the increased monster life and firepower meant that fragility went through the roof. Since that's no good for HC, we re-assessed a little bit. Using a 4-soc Broad Sword that dropped in late Act 3, and a little bit of Countess farming to round out our runes again, Klaus got an upgrade.

He also made a Rhyme shield, and with the newly buffed Oak and Grizzly as well as some extra resistances, he was off to the races once again. Izual went down, picked up a Dol from the HF, and cleared our way into Diablo's living room. With the merc snugged up in front of the Lightning Hose, and the Bear distracting him in the meantime, Kalus was free to Volcano Diablo until his eventual demise.

Well would you look at that, another useful drop from an Act Boss! Klaus slapped that Skullder's on and headed off to Harrogath in style.

Fissure is still quite devastating to non-FIs at this stage, so Act 5 was pretty much uneventful. The group plodded their way up the mountain, and handled the Ancients with ease. The WSK was straightforward, Klaus found the stairs down quite quickly and dispatched of the minion waves without issue. As mentioned previously, Kalus is not a quick boss killer at this point, but he safely whittled Baal down with Fissures and Volcanos and earned the title of Conqueror at the ripe young level of 70.

Will do! I haven't switched from p8 since the start (although I see that changing soon, lol...), and up to this point the skeletons' army coupled with Amp. Damage and CE hasn't lost too big of a step in their killing speed, so I've been sacrificing some resists and defense in favor of a little more magic find (33% Tarnhelm, 100% from 3 pieces of Angelic - found 2 rings -, 50% from 3 pieces of Sigon's, 25% from a Rhyme shrunken head).

Fire and Cold I can manage just fine, but Lightning and Poison look at me like I'm lunch. Think I'll reroll a charm or two to see if I get them a little higher before moving on. Or simply let go of the magic find from the Angelic pieces in favor of better armor (I'm set for a Smoke when I find a good base), which is probably what my brain told me to do about three acts ago.

New update. House full of flu, except me

. So I had lots of time to do AT runs. So far I have not found a good base for insight or infinity or fortitude. I have tried socket recipe several times to no avail. On the cool side, I am gaining levels like crazy (just hit 88). Found my first ever Andys Visage today. Other finds of note: Most of Nats set, unique Mancatcher, unique champion sword and several other uniques that were cool to me as I have never found them before.

My plan going forward is to continue grinding AT until I get a decent base for runeword. Then on to Act 3 and some LK runs until I can complete better merc gears. I should round out at 99 doing CS. As this is my first high level sorc of any flavor (blizzard) please chime in if this strategy needs some tweaking. I will try to figure out putting screen shots in for next post. Until then, I am catching up to you ffs.......

PS: Not sure why table shows ** instead of Eighty Eight. I am currently lvl 88 Doh.

Check the route to 99 guide for the best leveling route. Basically AT and LK first. Then CS dual seal runs from lvl 93 or so on. P1 seals / p7 diablo from 98 to 99.

Eighty eight in numbers gets censored, but it shouldn't to be honest.

I think after I had finished Normal, I actually realized the fool's errand of trying to get a Hunter to 99. Also, I was starting to die a lot. Way too much. It made me frustrated, and I was starting to get reckless. So I respecced into a Mauler. I was happy with it for a while, but I was starting to get frustrated again. I couldn't figure out what my gear was missing, and I didn't have the patience to do NM LK runs. So, in my infinite wisdom, I respecced again, into a Windy. I did have some random gear I had kept in case I went that route, but I was worse off than my Mauler had been.

So Cypher is done. I put him in The Fallen, because I'm permanently retiring him. I tend to delete characters of mine in any game a I play a little too readily. Also, I forgot D2 is not about rash decisions, lol.

Things I've learned:
- Patience! Patience is super important to an untwinked 99er.
- Planning! Planning my character would have helped me realize that a Hunter may not have been the best choice for this challenege. At least not before I've reacquainted myself with the game.
- General play tips. As in, holding onto my rings and ammies to reroll them. Actually knowing what some of the good runewords cost. Remembering what ilvl certain affixes and prefixes can show up at.

Anyhow, I'll join again at some point, after I put more thought into what I'd be doing. I was definitely trying to do a build that would stand out if I pulled it off, but chose to ignore how difficult it would be.

Not all that much time available to play lately with business and birthday stuff colliding but I finally quit procrastinating and set my sights on rolling a good Thresher rack in LK. It only took about 3 hours of rolling to produce but I did some chests mixed in as well since the map rolled 2 campfires.

Some pretty great luck here with the first drop producing 4 sockets especially considering I had already rolled some 10 eth Threshers and 5 eth Giant Threshers with no winners. Even more so with the great Insight roll on first attempt. I only had 3 sets of runes left for Insight. Will roll Infinity in this one at 98.

Also did a little bit of XP grinding to reach 50%.

Item Finds:

LK was actually very nice while looking for the Thresher. First Lightning GC and third Cold GC. SoE popped while hitting an armor rack that was dropping Serpentskin Armors. Later a SotV dropped in CS but unfortunately another <25 resists roll.. I had 2 sets of HotO runes so I decided to burn one on a regular 4 socket base for corpse recovery and save the other for if I find an eth 4 socket Flail. Eschuta's was eth +3 with mediocre FD/LD.

I'd like to also add my side project--Lebron the untwinked HC 99er attempt.
I've just finished up NM. Did Den of Evil to test the waters and decided it's best to stay in NM for a bit.

It only took about 3 hours of rolling to produce but I did some chests mixed in as well since the map rolled 2 campfires.

Some pretty great luck here with the first drop producing 4 sockets especially considering I had already rolled some 10 eth Threshers and 5 eth Giant Threshers with no winners. Even more so with the great Insight roll on first attempt. I only had 3 sets of runes left for Insight. Will roll Infinity in this one at 98.

Also did a little bit of XP grinding to reach 50%.

Item Finds:

LK was actually very nice while looking for the Thresher. First Lightning GC and third Cold GC. SoE popped while hitting an armor rack that was dropping Serpentskin Armors. Later a SotV dropped in CS but unfortunately another <25 resists roll.. I had 2 sets of HotO runes so I decided to burn one on a regular 4 socket base for corpse recovery and save the other for if I find an eth 4 socket Flail. Eschuta's was eth +3 with mediocre FD/LD.

I'd like to also add my side project--Lebron the untwinked HC 99er attempt.
I've just finished up NM. Did Den of Evil to test the waters and decided it's best to stay in NM for a bit.

Nice going @Yng, 3 hrs is pretty good to get a Thresher rack I think. Don't know if I was just unlucky but it took me 5 hrs to get a CV rack which I then ran for my Sorc's first Infinity base. And I really wanted to shoot myself while looking for one, those were easily the dullest 5 hours I've ever had.

Nice to see another entry with HC barb, too. What happened to Kyrie btw? Oh and being a basketball fan as well, I should name my next character after my compatriot Dirk.

@ffs I love Dirk, he was completely unique in his prime. Kyrie is sitting at 90 3/4 and I think that’s where he’ll stay. A Gomule mishap cost me his CtA as well as some other things. I considered starting back up at LK and farming for a Fissure setup but I think I’ll just retire him. If the Barb doesn’t work out I think I’ll try Hdin or CS/LF.

E: in regards to Thresher racks, just try to roll a map with a wep rack close to WP. Approach it from a few different angles. If you can get even 2/10 Thresher spawns it’s worth it if it’s close to WP. I had ~10 second runs where I start in act 4, take one step and hit WP, go to LK, make one teleport to right hit rack then hit WP from same spot and leave game in Act 4.

Haha yeah back in 2011 Dirk cost me many hours of sleep, and countless heart attacks.

Oh well. Regarding racking yeah that's exactly what I did but just didn't find one, even killed off my Merc to avoid drop randomization due to NPCs. Maybe I was just unlucky, no idea how long it takes to find a specific item rack on average. Have to ask the 1.07 crowd I guess they do it all the time.

Racks in 1.07/1.08 are way more stable than they are in future versions, but hunting for a map is still pretty terrible. It's made slightly better by the fact that you don't have to test each path/hydra combination more than a couple of times to figure out if it's worth running, though.

Up to 70, going through NM Act V (I *think* the correct table follows below, but feel free to edit my post if not). This act always gives me a better leveling feeling.

And here's where I start being thankful for dumping points in Dexterity: 60-something% chance to block really helps when the Frigid Highlands decide to drop legions after legions of Slingers your way.

Magic finding hasn't really paid dividends after Diablo (and there was nothing special from his loot to begin with); on the luck side, I found a few extra mid-level runes that made me consider an Oath for the HoW charges. Need to start thinking about Olena's gear improvement as well - I get that the best choice would probably be an Act2 merc, but I really like the concept of having her stick with me all the way through the game since I'm playing HC.
