What's natural about a group off ravening, starving barflies grabbing a penguin and throwing him squealing onto a BBQ?

Goddammit, I am seriously hungry now.

I prefer lamb to goat personally.

Goat has the flavour more like mutton but the texture more like lamb. It is not a forgiving meat though.

Do people eat buzzards?

The is an old Australian story about eating a Galah (a bird like a cockatoo). Put the plucked Galah into a pot of boiling water with an onion, some seasoning and a rock. Boil until the rock is tender, throw away the Galah and eat the rock.

I think Buzzards might be something like that!

Galah is not like a cockatoo it is a cockatoo!

Never heard that one before, quite amusing and reminds me of wombat stew.

We were supposedly meant to have decent work on this week. But today, I was stuck in the office. I wonder what happened to the work we supposedly had.
On the plus side, I got through probably 5 chapters of Game of Thrones, and spent most of the time reading. I did do some work, but, the work sucks ***. Game of Thrones on the other hand is really good. I'm just about even with where the current series is - on some storylines, I'm slightly ahead, and on others, I'm slightly behind.

Tomorrow is also supposedly a boring day, so we'll see how that goes. I don't think I'll get as much reading done as today, but hopefully.

My daughters spent a few days in Tassie and have brought me a bottle of mead as a thank you. Time to compare my homemade stuff with the commercial stuff. To top off the day, I've got a job interview on Friday.

Yay. Congrats on the interview and best of luck.

Also, if I knew your address, I'd totally steal your mead. So good, especially warmed on a cool night.

I might be coming up to an interesting decision workwise as well. I am likely to be offered a job that's casual (full time hours at a casual wage,) for three months. And considering how much I don't want to work for this company, I'm tempted to leave full-time for it. I honestly don't see my current job as a long term job anyway, and I do want to find a new company.
After the three months, there may be more casual work or may not be. It may be a good time to look at taking another mini trip, and trying to get some work in QLD - again, just temporary/casual, just to work in a different place.

After stable work, it does feel kinda weird to through that away in the hope of getting a few short-term/casual jobs, as there is no security, but at the same time, I have no real, nor want any, security from my current job, so I'm really not sure what I'll end up deciding.

I'm still hoping I get the council job (interview went well,) which would negate the above decisions, but. We'll see I guess.

What's the casual employment like in the horticulture field?

Most of the environmental contractors are casual. You generally work the same hours as full time, except on wet days, you don't work, and some hot days, you may work part of the day. Obviously, if you get a wet week, you don't get paid for that week, but you still get the casual loading - a bit higher pay compared to full-time.
In most, you start as casual, and if work continues steady or increases, they may put some longer term staff onto full time - it really depends on the company, but most start on casual, with some allowing you to become full time.

But as said, full time with my company doesn't mean much. I wanted to leave ~9 months ago, was preparing to leave 3 months ago, and have no intention of staying on any further. In that sense, there's no point working up annual leave, so why not now if I get a temporary opportunity. I'd just leave this job anyway when something else came up...

Honestly, the idea of leaving full time for a casual/temp does somewhat scare me. But as said, I've been ready to quit for a while now. Just really hope that council job comes through.

I wasn't surprised to get an interview, but I'd be surprised if I got the job. I think the fact that I'm already teaching in the same qualification helped get the interview, but I specialise in maths and chemistry and they want at teacher for food safety auditing subjects and microbiology. I was hoping just to get my name down on their books. Who knows, maybe the chem teacher might have a little accident. :whistling:

Just really hope that council job comes through.

Here's to good luck for all our job hunting ventures. :guiness:

As you may remember I quit my last job without work to go to. I spent ~ 3 months unemployed* and then picked up a casual job with full time hours in February. Now I am about to be made permanent and get a promotion as well. It is kind of funny as I only intended this casual work to be a stop gap, now it looks like I might make a career out of it. I guess all I am saying is nothing ventured nothing gained

* I could offered to do this as my wife earns enough money to support both of us + mortgage. Not everyone can afford to do the same thing though.

Well you are a chem teacher, take a leaf out of Walter Whites book and cook up some Ricin.

Yeah, it's still kind of scary to consider going from safe, full-time work to potentially temporary casual work. Even though I know my job is not /safe/ in that I want to leave it, and have wanted to leave for the past 9 months, so the feeling of being in a secure job is flawed.

I don't want to go to bed now. If I go to bed, that means I wake up sooner and have to go to work... And tomorrow's going to be a crappy day. I believe everyone will be around the office, meaning I can't pretend to work while reading GoT again. :( Did I mention this type of works sucks completely, and I shouldn't even have to do it. Go hire someone with a business degree for it. Or someone who does it for a full-time job... :(

Night bar. I'll let you know how I fair tomorrow.

I've just cracked into the bottle of mead I was given and frankly the stuff I make is better!
