Also, I think it's time to start pondering who is possibly scum and who is not.

I'm 90% Confident Technomancer is pro-town.
I'm 60% Confident Gorny is pro-town.
I'm 50/50 on Zhao_Yue being scum, for now.

Also, I'm going to list the people who have posted the least.

Considering that the mafia managed to successfully kill someone last night, it is less likely that, of those with the least posts, people who are inactive (zero posts) are scum. Not to say they couldn't be, but chances are if the mafia are active enough to kill someone, they are active enough to post. Plus, those with zero posts will be mod killed eventually.

So, to the people with but a single post. Why so silent? got anything important to add to the conversation?

yesterday was a REALLY long day for me and Mara as well as another all day D&D game and i worked most of today. i'm getting my free time now. just when you think things are kiiiiiinda okay.... you get called an ungrateful ***** for no damn good reason.

playing catch up right now. give me some time.

Re: Zombie invasion Mafia game.

so no one has to read a novel.... might have to write two or three posts total...

As for me, don't worry yet, I'm camped out in an abandoned water tower with enough ammo to last me a few nights. Focus on getting someone more important first.

interesting. :scratchchin:

TC - Was post #3 edited due to game events (Uraj's death) or due to an initial typo? I didn't copy the original post, but it looks like we lost the engineer.

It does seem that Uraj was the engineer..

guys.... WHERE IN THE HELL DID YOU READ THAT? i re-read the story twice and couldn't find anything that hinted at Uraj being the engineer. unless TC edited the post before i got to read it now, i suspect you two (more so Gory) the most right now. all it said was a guy was killed from zombies that had gotten thru a secret passage. nothing more than that.

What type of pie do you like Asrrin?

i like chocolate pudding pie. oooohhhhh, yeah! ;)

I sent you a PM regarding my role and my choice of action last night, but I think you didn't read it. How do I know your Inbox is full?

well, we know Valhauros has some kind of power-role.

Popcorn pie? Nom nom nom nom.

it's not pie, but it'll do. ;)

Re: Zombie invasion Mafia game.

My first forum mafia post evar! Yay!

welcome!!

Anyway, while Scouts do seem to be extremely important, Soldiers can help increase the effectiveness of Scouts and Scavengers.

yeah, i was thinking defense for scouts and town, ya know? like, maybe mini-vigis.

lol. mini-vigis.

I have a question though since this isn't explicitly mentioned in the rules: I assume town can add more buildings?

im guessing so... if only seven can fit in one house.

Wow, complex setup...color me impressed

lol, read that in Archer's voice. DUH!

The game where you run around the block flashing people.

:rolf:

Ha? I don't think you have a bright future in comedy ... you should go back to studying in the library.

i thought it was funny.

Is this based on the rules (which I admit I've skimmed) ....

not gonna lie.... i kinda did to. :embarassed: im sort of on a time crunch this evening.

Any thoughts on why Uraj may have been targeted? There wasn't a role reveal, but in post #3 TC mentions an Engineer in night one but not in day one. Anyone else reading this to say that Uraj was the Engineer?

please, if anyone else can point out where it hints or blatantly says Uraj = Engineer, free honey for everyone.

Either that or he was eating pie and gopt some on his clothes before going out...turning him into a zombie snack.

[OT] DUDE! like, no joke, that happened at our D&D game time before last. got on two of our players and this past round (this past Sunday) they died from it (they left the group so DM killed them in the story). [/OT]

Also just thought I would mention I know my name in this game no worries this time round!

lol! you better!

Write it on a piece of paper and stick it on your screen.

seconded.

° Soldiers provide additional defense, helping lowering Zombie threat or helping scouts or scavengers by protecting them in their quest.
° Scouts have a chance to bring an additional member to the house or finding items to increase survival.
° Scavengers find food, items or weapons for the citizens.
° Scientists research, perhaps increasing food management, morale or defense.
° Engineers produces weapons, defenses, extra housing or repairs vehicles (who may help with scouting or scavenging).

seems like i was right about soldiers. i HIGHLY doubt, in a game this big and where we have zombie-NPCs AND mafia members attacking us that there is ONE scout. TC is mean, but pretty sure he's not THAT damn mean.... then again....

seems like Scientists and Engineers are like BFFs - scientists do the research and give it to the engineer to put together. im not making a lover connection here, but just making an observation right now. Scientists seem like they might be able to make more food too. maybe clone it? Engineers seem like builders and... what is this? repair vehicles? oooh, do we get awesome rides like this? :D

Re: Zombie invasion Mafia game.

What flash game?

Also, what's with everyone and pie? Pudding and flan are better.

i don't think i've ever had flan. pie, ducks, role-claiming the cop on Day Two, cake, rugs, Indeed, exploding Ivans, Hey Zhao, hey Feysal, and (who can forget) Noodle vs. Bad Ash are running jokes here. just in case you see anymore of those. ;)

okay, tie to bathe and go sleep. working again all day tomorrow, so i'll be here sometime after 9 PM CST (whatever that is in -6 GMT).

later. :girly:

but first.... *sigh* according to the Armor section, rule 7 of the Handbook, gotta do it.

I got it from the game rules you said you skimmed over.

Night 1:
Citizens: 5 (1 Solider, 1 Scout, 1 Scavenger, 1 Engineer, 1 Scientist, 0 Civilians)

Day 1:
Citizens: 4 (1 Solider, 1 Scout, 1 Scavenger, 1 Scientist, 0 Civilians)

At the time, Post #3 didn't include the Night 1 infoz so I compared Post #1 with Post #3.

it's not pie, but it'll do. ;)

Asrrin posted pics of one of my TV crushes. You're posting pics worthy of dethroning another TV crush: Giada. If this game keeps going I'm going to have to ...

eat pie.

Re: Zombie invasion Mafia game.

Point is, I think the mafia lucked out with Uraj.

Howcome? I don't really see losing an engineer who can repair stuff as a big loss as opposed to someone else, say a doctor. Of course it could've been a vanilla townie, or in the best case scenario another anti-town faction member (if there is such a thing) but I'm completely fine with losing an engineer over a cop or a doc.

I reckon I'm just going to focus on the mafia aspect of the game and not worry about food, moral and whatever else might been mentioned in one of the statistics posts.

I wholeheartedly agree on this. If we play the game well as a regular mafia game, ie. flush out the mafia and people use their individual skills succesfully, morale, housing nor anything else will become a problem. Focus on the game, "forget" the fancy stuff for now.

My opinion on the whole "item" thing is that the engineer isnt necessarily involved in that. Mainly because I think that TC would remove it from page 1 if it was no longer a possibility as he has stated previously he would

I don't get the rambling about this topic. I think it's fairly clear that the items are a gift from TC to the town should we get lucky with the % chance, and no players have anything to do with it. If it were a player ability I doubt it'd read in the opening posts.

My bad. Interesting how the speculation about engineers, scientists, and items have played out since my inability to remember what I read.

Yes indeed, the town is trampling in place with the discussion. I'm suspicious of anyone who analyzed it further and beyond.

Also, I'm going to list the people who have posted the least.

At the time I was online the last time, there was nothing to comment on. Simple as that.

Vote: Gorny

The reason? Spam + distraction in the form of useless analysation(sp?) of the engineer <-> items thing. Laarz was another candidate, but I landed on Gorny for he's a bigger distraction if he's anti-town.

Re: Zombie invasion Mafia game.

Some subjects haven't been talked about as much as I would like. Ever hoping to glean insight from others, I've not pressed. It's late enough in the day I think it's time to bring up the subjects myself, as it concerns town night actions.

N.B.: I still haven't looked at the game link. If what I say makes absolutely no sense, tell me and take away my pie.

1. What did the soldier do last night?

I'm guessing the soldier's primary ability is to defend against the horde attack by providing "assigned citizens defense" of the combat formula. However, the rules stated there would be no zombie horde attack the first night, making the primary ability unneeded. Others have talked about the soldier having other abilities as well: assisting the scout or assisting the scavenger. The scavenger came back with only 1 food, so it doesn't look like the soldier assisted the scavenger. The scout didn't find any citizen or one of the other professions so it doesn't look like the soldier helped the scout.

While I'm curious as to what action the soldier took last night, I'm more interested in...

2. What action should the solder perform tonight?

At least one other person pointed out the snowball effect of a successful zombie horde attack. The rules state the zombie horde gain 3 threat per day, plus another 5 if they win the horde attack. In total, the zombie horde can increase 8 threat per day. Comparatively, I don't know how the town can increase defense other than throwing more defenders in the way. Two unsuccessful defends against the horde attack has the effect of negating a perfect 15 random roll each and every night thereafter. If we lose early, we will keep losing. Therefore, early defense is critical to keeping zombie threat in check. In my opinion, the soldier is forced to defend the home front tonight.

Which leads me to my next question...

3. Should others in town help the soldier?

Unfortunately, the town is somewhat limited in how many players they can keep back as defenders. For starters, only 4 are in town right now. Not sure if the scout can stay and defend but that seems like a loosing scenario. It should be better to scout for additional soldiers to help defend than for the scout to assist with the defense themselves. Same with the scientist: I'm guessing research will become important before the game is over, especially since it sounds like there are multiple things to be researched.

It appears only the scavenger is viable for defense help tonight. The town is good on food. Even with recruitment every night and no further scavenging, the town has enough food to feed each citizen through the end of day 5 (37 at the end of D1, 32 at end of 2, 26, 19, 11, 2...). The numbers are telling me the scavenger should help defend tonight.

Of course, all this talk about threat and defending assumes morale is worth keeping high.

4. Should the town ignore morale?

Absolutely not. Lynches are about the only source of consistent information for the town. Losing out on 25% of those information chances is a gamechanger. Plus there is that little requirement that the town loses unless it kills the mafia. That requirement is almost exclusively met through lynches. Low morale effectively increases the number of mafia by 25%. Huge.

Can't agree with your reasoning.
1) To be fair my second post was hardly substantive.
2) I habitually do one huge post over several little ones because I think it's more tidy and I can review all of the posts since I last posted
3) There isn't an awful lot to say at this stage. For me anyway.

I'd be less impressed losing an engineer if he repairs things. Like our defences?

Are you happy to have a town with lower defences, Ankeli?

I'm missing something I want to comment on. So will find it and post in a mo.

Re: Zombie invasion Mafia game.

Can't find the bit I wanted to quote. Something about the number of roles. I'll keep looking but what I wanted to say was the number of roles are as of this moment and if we have people outside maybe the number of roles will increase. Not sure I'm explaining that well. However, I just think that getting those people outside into the town is important because while they will be eating food at least they can help defend and/or fulfil their roles.

1. What did the soldier do last night?
Don't really care myself because if they say they might as well stick an "eat me" sign on themselves. But the analysis was good.
2. What action should the solder perform tonight?

... The rules state the zombie horde gain 3 threat per day, plus another 5 if they win the horde attack. In total, the zombie horde can increase 8 threat per day. ... Got to disagree with this. I understand the snow ball effect but unless we get people in town we're going to be playing the numbers forever. If we get more people in then doesn't that improve our chances of future success? (This maybe part of the rules I skimmed so feel free to correct. :D)

3. Should others in town help the soldier?

It appears only the scavenger is viable for defense help tonight. [The others doing what they should do; scout etc]
Got to agree; get the scout scouting, scientist researching.

Got to agree with that. Don't get bogged down but the games I have played we've stood around with our thumbs strategically placed rather than lynch. If TC is trying to discourage that behaviour then I'm all for it. (Until I run out of food, anyway. :D)

Re: Zombie invasion Mafia game.

OT: Sick atm, so I haven't posted much because of it, I will do most of my posting when I get home from the Doc's.

Back at the game:

3 pages already? reading all this might take a while.

I didn't pose the question to those with two or more posts, but I simply included those with two posts in the list because there were only a few. However my reasoning is sound, as it did exactly what I wanted it to do. It led to more people posting, which is always good for the town.

Re: Zombie invasion Mafia game.

No I know, Asrrin but I felt it fair to point out that my two posts were hardly in depth examinations of the facts. :) Because there aren't any. :D

Re: Zombie invasion Mafia game.

Yeahh, I'm definately going to ignore all posts about those stats and everything because we've now wasted about 36 hours not finding anything relevant. The confusion only helps the mafia.

Good to see more names in the discussion. It's always nice to be able to establish some players as townies on D1.

How is the current discussion going to establish anyone as townies? Anyone can get they're guess about the setup. And you trying to insinuate that people discussing, as you are, are townies isn't working for either.

Vote: Goryani

The rules don't clarify this aspect of the game.

Some have speculated the soldier can help those who leave the safety of the fenced in area: aka, the scout and scavenger. In my first question, I outlined that I can't tell if the solder helped either the scout or the scavenger. I don't think the soldier was very good at helping, if helping was the decision made. If so, it makes sense the soldier wouldn't be very good if attempting to help again tonight. If the soldier has little to no effect while helping the scout, then perhaps the soldier should do something they are better at. Obviously, the soldier would be in a better position to ascertain which choice is most correct because only they know what choice was made night 1.

Can't find the bit I wanted to quote. Something about the number of roles. I'll keep looking but what I wanted to say was the number of roles are as of this moment and if we have people outside maybe the number of roles will increase. Not sure I'm explaining that well.

Was it one of these?

With 5 citizens at the start of the game I reckon we've got about at least two more of every profession out there stuck in the wilderness, or some more than others.

By that rationale, someone with no knowledge of our 5 professions is a good candidate for mafia. Yes?

Re: Zombie invasion Mafia game.

By that rationale, someone with no knowledge of our 5 professions is a good candidate for mafia. Yes?

Erm, no. I only knew a little about another role but now I know enough about every role because it's been thrown around here every so often. if anything you've ruined that opportunity.

You mean the stuff which TC put together because (I presume) it alters the game mechanics? Wouldn't that play to the advantage of the mafia and not the town? I think it would.

Bottom line was that if everyone performs as expected, and we lynch at a decent ratio (say, 1/3 lynches is mafia) we won't run into any problems. I don't see why the game mechanics that albeit fun and interesting would play any major part in our success. The random factor (when the cop is found, when the doc is found) is going to be more of an issue for us.

Anyone making a mountain out of a molehill that we'd automatically climb without issues is my suspect, and you've joined Gorny and Laarz on the list.

Re: Zombie invasion Mafia game.

@ Goryani - thank you it COULD have been one of those. Pretty sure the bit I read said there was only one of each profession. Normally my memory is better than this. :( Thanks for looking.

I have to say Sathoris and Ankheli aren't my favourite people because I am suspicious about anyone saying ignore some of the game mechanics. That seems counter-intuitive to a win. (For the town.)

I am suspicious of the two votes that have been made already.

I don't really want to vote right now, I'd rather wait until we've have more votes and secure a lynch. However, I'd be worried if either of the two I've mentioned start a landslide of votes.

I can't decide about Goryani.

So let's throw another name out there:

Vote: Ankheli

Re: Zombie invasion Mafia game.

Just to clarify, I was typing my post as you posted Ankheli. Feel free to lynch me, it'll be less reading for me to do and you improve your chances of the town losing. Then we'll be absolutely certain where you stand, won't we. :)
