Re: Zombie invasion Mafia game.

woah woah woah. When did you change the rules TC? I thought role claiming and pondering about possible roles was an integral part of the game. The rule is not to reveal your PM, but you can still role claim. and why can't we use information outside of the thread? I've already posted the link before you posted that, so I don't know what to do about it now.

What are you talking about there? Don't confuse the host. The host is the one confusing the players, not the other way around.

Re: Zombie invasion Mafia game.

Asrrin, read the first post of the sign up thread.

oh oh! I need to apologize and slow down and read better. I thought you told me to read the beginning of this thread, and then I thought you were referring to rule 1, which if read wrongly, could be construed as not talking about roles and out of game topics.

I am an idiot and I'm sorry for making a big fuss. you and I played the same game ;)

Re: Zombie invasion Mafia game.

Hey, it's my fault, ok! I'm a bit rusty at all of this. Like I said, more ready, less talky.

Also, Goryani, why the finger pointing? you seem nervous.

Re: Zombie invasion Mafia game.

Regarding scouts: Feysal voiced some of my thoughts. I worry about the downsides to having a single scout. I'd be doubly worried about the downsides if a scout survivor exists.

Items:
1. There is a 50% chance that 1 town aligned player will receive a free item during each night. Items can be traded by sending a PM requesting that the item be traded to a random town player.

Anyone remember when this appeared? I don't remember it from last night.

Making items to give away in mafia games isn't new. That role is usually called an inventor, but engineer would work as well (scientist is the other role thematically relevant). Did the town get some/all of the benefits of the engineer upon the death of the engineer?

I sent you a PM regarding my role and my choice of action last night, but I think you didn't read it. How do I know your Inbox is full?

Not all roles with night actions will get a reply. Roles with night actions that normally get a reply don't always get a reply - other events or game mechanics can happen. TC doesn't usually send a PM to the effect of: no reply.

I could keep the old updates if that suits you better. I'm a nice host. Ask and you might receive.

I like the style of updates where you add the new day/night status and keep the older ones visible. Editing mafia game posts is too confuzzling without being able to see the before and after versions.

I'm also guessing that the scout, upon targeting a mafia/zombie, gets killed. This would limit the power of the role so it's not able to investigate as well as recruit.

What do you think happened with last night's scouting?

Also, Goryani, why the finger pointing? you seem nervous.

If you think I'm pointing fingers at you, then I think you have a guilty conscience. I'm nervous because I'm surrounded by zombies trying to eat my pie.

That would make the scout a mason recruiter rather than a cop. I don't think that is how it works though. There is a mention in the rules that mafia zombies do not show up as citizens, which implies that you can invite mafia into the town, and the town stats are the only thing that would reveal them.

In the first game I hosted, I included a type of mason recruiter, who targeted scum on night zero and got killed. I thought it was a real shame, I'd have loved to see that role in action.

Re: Zombie invasion Mafia game.

I've added a "Combat report" field in post #3 to show the result of a zombie horde attack after each night.

Ah, it seems I was in error. It was Zhao_Yue that pointed the finger, not you.

What type of pie do you like Asrrin?

So I correct myself. Zhao, why the finger pointing, are you nervous?

Also, another thought occurred to me. The scout may not be able to target a single person, rather they simply may choose to "scout" for the night and have a percentage chance to bring a random person home. This would explain why the scout did not find anyone night one and also why he didn't get killed.

Re: Zombie invasion Mafia game.

The "50% chance someone will receive an item" was there when TC first created the thread

Oooh what a fun theme it is, I've just finished reading the Zombie survival guide and started the World War Z book, talk about timing. I'm ready to fight ze Zombies!

Anyhow, to the above quote, I doubt the scout has a general "go out and search" skill, it'd make bringing in the power roles to the towns use too random. It has to be a targetable ability. And what you said about the doctor being able to protect the scout, I doubt TC would put a doc that can target the same person twice or more in a row to a game with mechanics like this, it'd be overpowered for the town.

Re: Zombie invasion Mafia game.

My first forum mafia post evar! Yay!

Anyway, while Scouts do seem to be extremely important, Soldiers can help increase the effectiveness of Scouts and Scavengers. So, as long as town has at least one of each of those, finding Soldiers would probably be more useful than anything at first, especially since the current soldier in town would probably want to stay and defend the fort at night.

I have a question though since this isn't explicitly mentioned in the rules: I assume town can add more buildings?

Wow, complex setup...color me impressed.

Right, assuming soldiers will work the same way they work in the flash game makes sense.

I guess we'll see about that...in the flash game the engineeres are used to take new areas/buildings after successfully clearing them from zombies.
Then again, as Gory pointed out, town doesn't seem to be in danger of food or space shortage for now.

Of course I'm nervious, a zombie apocalypse and me without my precious boomstick ...

You're bothered by the finger pointing and creating general hubbub? That's nothing, when I start with the pet names and breaking into song with Gorny, then you'll know epic shenanigans are afoot.

I'm sad that you didn't indulge in my silliness questions, you basically failed my acid test. Unfortunately people that don't play ball usually have something to hide. I would reciprocate with the "Are you nervous" bit, but I think it's approaching the "change the undies" level.
