Zombie invasion Mafia game.

THE RULES

1) You do not talk about your role or any other relevant information concerning the game outside this thread.

2) If you post at night I will kill you, no matter what.

3) If you edit your post I will kill you (This includes editing for spelling mistakes)

4) If your role allows you to communicate with others during the night, feel free to do so via PM, instant messaging or any other form you choose. Only those roles expressly allowed to communicate privately with each other at night are allowed to. If you have any questions, contact me privately.

5) Once you're dead, stay that way. Dead people tell no tales, or in this case, dead people make no posts. Suck up your death and keep watching and rooting for your team. There's always the next round.

6) Every player gets one lynch vote during the day. Votes and unvotes need to be bolded . If your unvote isn't bold, it doesn't count. The votes and unvotes must be as follows:

Anything else won't be tallied towards the lynch. If you try to cheat with ; or whatever else, feel free to, just hope the others won't catch you doing so. Also, names MUST BE CASE SENSITIVE.

7) The required number of votes to seal a lynch for the day is equal to one half the remaining number of people alive (rounded up) plus 1. Once someone reaches this number of votes, they will be lynched no matter what; however, the day will still continue to its scheduled conclusion. Half rounded up equals a lynch, but no lock, so the lynchee has until the days end to persuade the town otherwise.

8) Never post anything in the thread that shouldn't be known to the town. Don't flame in the thread. If you have a problem with anything in the thread, please PM me and I'll do my best to handle it.

9) Any player may claim any role. I.E. Any player may claim to be something that they are not. However,

10) Do not post any information sent to you in a pm. This includes, but is not limited to, numbers of words/letters/punctuation marks. If you want to claim a role, don't copy paste the PM I sent you. If you're a townsfolk aka regular forum member, the only person you should be pm'ing (no private aim or msn conversations between each other) is me. Mafia can pm between themselves (or talk on msn or aim) only during the night.

11) I won't be telling you the starting roles.

12) Day lasts 48 hours and night lasts 24 hours.

13) Do not post at night or edit or I will kill you.

14) You will get mod killed if you are inactive (at least 1 contributive post a day).

16) If you are (temp) banned, you will also be mod killed.

Game mechanics you should know:
Housing:
1. One house can contain 7 citizens. If places in homes are not available, new citizens cannot join the city.
2. Town starts with 1 Police station and 1 house.

Food:
1. Food must be scavenged.
2. Each citizen eats 1 food per day. Town starts with 40 food.
3. If food is scarce, morale drops by 5 each day.

Defense and attack:
1. Town starts at 10 defense.
2. Zombie horde attacks each night. Zombie horde threat will raise by 3 each night. Zombie horde threat starts at 10.
3. Zombie horde attack formula: ((Zombie horde threat) + (random number between 1 and 15)) – ((Assigned citizens defense) + (fort defense) + (random number between 1 and 15))
4. If zombie horde wins, threat raises by 5. If the town wins, threat will lower by 3.

Citizens:
1. Town starts with: 1 soldier, 1 scientist, 1 scout, 1 engineer, 1 scavenger.
2. Other survivors must be brought back into the town with use of a scout.
3. Stranded (not part of the town yet) survivors can post/vote normally. They cannot however use any sorts of abilities they might have until they join the town and become citizens.
4. Scavenger: Adds 1 defense to the city fort if assigned. Will find 1 to 4 (2 to 6 with soldier) food each night.
5. Solider: Adds 5 defense to the city fort if assigned. 25% chance to kill 2 zombies during the night (-2 threat from zombies). May accompany scouts and scavengers enabling them to recruit more citizens/find more food.
6. Scout: Adds 1 defense to city fort if assigned. Can find 1-2 (1-3 with solider) survivors during the night.
7. Scientist: Adds 0.5 defense to city fort if assigned. Researches new technology. 1 scientist = 1 tick = 24 real time hours of game daytime.
8. Engineer: Adds 0.5 defense to city fort if assigned. Builds housing/defenses. 1 engineer = 1 tick = 24 real time hours of game daytime.


Mafia:
1. Mafia zombies do not show up as citizens.
2. Mafia zombies =/= Zombie horde. Mafia zombies are your basic mafia faction, while the zombie horde is a collective NPC that attacks the town each night as stated above.
3. There is a 25% chance that a NK may fail if town morale is above 80.

]Researches and buildings:
1. House: Inhabitable by 7 citizens. Takes 6 ticks to complete.
2. Bar: Raises morale by 20. Takes 6 ticks to complete.
3. Villa: Inhabitable by 15 citizens. Takes 10 ticks to complete.
4. Club: Raises morale by 30. Takes 8 ticks to complete.
5. Police station: Adds 10 to fort defenses. Takes 6 ticks to complete.
6. Mall: Adds 20 to fort defenses. Takes 10 ticks to complete.
7. Research Villa. Takes 10 ticks to research.
8. Research Club. Takes 8 ticks to research.
9. Research Mall. Takes 10 ticks to research.
10. Zombie antidote. Takes 13 ticks to research. Once finished, zombie threat drops to zero and all survivors join the city. Food and housing are no longer a problem. Morale goes up to 100.
11. Buildings and researches are completed at the end of the day.


Morale:
1. Morale raises by 10 if mafia member is lynched.
2. Morale drops by 5 if townie is lynched.
3. Morale raises by 5 if zombie horde attack is won.
4. Morale drops by 5 if zombie horde attack is lost.
5. If morale is lower than 40, there is a 25% chance that a lynch will fail.
7. Town starts with 60 morale.
8. Food shortage causes morale to drop by 5.
9. Morale is capped at 100.

Items:
1. There is a 50% chance that 1 town aligned player will receive a free item during each night. Items can be traded by sending a PM requesting that the item be traded to a random town player.
2. AK-47: Adds 1 defense if wearer is assigned to fort defenses.
3. Trash bag: Adds 1 extra food scavenged if it’s in the possession of a scavenger.
4. Binoculars. Enables the recruitment of one extra survivor if it’s in the possession of a scout.
5. Adamantine hammer. Doubles the productivity of a builder.
6. Chemistry set. Doubles the productivity of a scientist.


Events:
1. Town wins once all anti town have been eliminated and Zombie antidote has finished researching (does not apply if all scientists are dead).
2. If all engineers die, housing is not an
3. If scout citizen dies, the other scout joins the town. If all scouts die before recruiting all survivors, remaining survivors join the city 1 at a time, randomly.
4. If all soldiers die, the zombie horde no longer attacks the town.

3. You are the zombie hustler Andy Cooper. During the night, you may talk to your fellow zombie worshipers and have the ability to trick a person assigned to a defense post to leave his post for that night, lowering the city defenses.

Once you have joined the city, you have the option of investigating one person each night, revealing their alignment. Note that you are categorized as a civilian. Also, keep in mind that the people you target must be citizens of the town or anti town. If they are not, investigation will fail.

19. You are Sue Age, a doctor survivor. Right now, you are lost in a building outside the safety of the town. In order to join the city, you will have to wait for a scout to find you. Once you have joined the city, you can protect a player during the night, saving them from harm. You cannot target the same person twice in a row. Note that you are categorized as a civilian. Also, keep in mind that the people you target must be citizens of the town or anti town. If they are not, protection will fail.

20. You are Anne Arctica, a priestess survivor. Right now, you are lost in a building outside the safety of the town. In order to join the city, you will have to wait for a scout to find you. Once you have joined the city, during even nights (2,4,6 etc) you may target one player and recruit them in your cult with a 75% chance of success. You will be able to communicate to your recruits during all nights. Once you die, the first recruit will take your place. Note that you are categorized as a civilian. Also, keep in mind that the people you target must be citizens of the town or anti town. If they are not, recruiting will fail. You win when there are no other anti town roles alive your cult outnumbers the townies.

21. You are Tommy Hawk, a bus driver survivor. Right now, you are lost in a building outside the safety of the town. In order to join the city, you will have to wait for a scout to find you. Once you have joined the city, during the night you may choose two people and switch them. Note that you are categorized as a civilian. Also, keep in mind that the people you target must be citizens of the town or anti town. If they are not, the switch will fail.

22. You are Bow Man, Right now, you are lost in a building outside the safe town. In order to join the city, you will have to wait for a scout to find you. Once you have joined the city, you have two options during the night. You have the option to pick up a gun and help shoot down the zombies that are attacking the city, adding 1 defense, or you may choose to go outside and search for survivors. It all began in England. Like all good intentions, it started with a small bacteria that would allow the human body to grow teeth once again. We all wanted to get our natural teeth back and be able to eat normally once again without having to worry about anything. But then something happened, something that no one thought it could be possible. The bacteria got mixed up with a virus and mutated into something that no one has seen before. A new virus that would wipe out most of the population of this wonderful blue planet.
It started off slow, with just the people that were receiving the treatment, which was about 5% of the worlds population. After a few weeks of the treatment, the bacteria began mutating and in just a few hours, the subjects would fall asleep and wake up to be mindless zombies. But not the kind of zombies you see every day in horror movies, no, these zombies were special. They only knew 3 words, and those weren't "Brains, brains, brains", in fact they were "I Like Pie". Must be the fact that pie is something that people with bad teeth were not allowed to eat. And once they received the treatment with this bacteria, their urge to eat pie grew bigger and bigger.
The authorities managed to contain this outbreak by putting all the infected into quarantine. But somehow, one of them managed to escape and went on a rampage to infect all the soldiers guarding them. The infected zombie was caught eventually and put back into quarantine, but the soldiers who were infected began transforming into zombies as well. It only took them three months to infect the whole population and brink our planet to the bring of destruction.
After two years, we've found this little town here in the country of IncGamers, a town which we called Forum. We managed to stave out the zombies from a few buildings and built some fences and defenses and we are now sending people out to see if more survivors are out there. Our plan is to rebuild this town, kill all zombies and establish a society where mankind can live on in safety.

Last night something odd happened. The horde outside our fences just stood there watching the bright lights coming from our perimeter. They haven’t done this so far, but who knows what kind of thinking they are capable of. They do like Pie afterall, and anyone who chooses pie over brains must be capable of some sorts of thinking.
Once the sun came up, a young private came to my quarters to reveal yet another unprecedented case. The body of a man was found dead near the entrance of our only house. It seems that some zombies broke into our perimeter through some hidden passageway which we are yet to find, and killed this poor soul. We really need to prevent this from happening again. With just a few of us left, each soul is important if we want to survive.
There was also some good news, one of our scavengers went our last night, alone, and managed to find 1 food. It’s not enough for us to survive on, but it’s better than nothing.

Alright, let's get this party started!

Right away, I see a HUGE potential problem that needs to be addressed right away. There are some of us who are stranded outside of the town. And each of us has an important ability that is of use to the town. The MOST vital person right now is the scout, to get more people into the town. If he/she dies then the rest of us are nothing more than normal townies, unable to do anything other than lynch. so no. 1 goal is to get another scout into the town as quickly as possible.

Problem is, if another scout outs himself to get scouted during the night, Mafia/Zombies are going to be all over him like butter on toast. So we need a protector role to help out with getting the town up and running. Where to go from there, I don't know. this is all muddled by the fact that our vital role people aren't going to out themselves to get attacked during the night, so this becomes VERY hard.

As for me, don't worry yet, I'm camped out in an abandoned water tower with enough ammo to last me a few nights. Focus on getting someone more important first.

What on Earth have we gotten ourselves into?

TC - Was post #3 edited due to game events (Uraj's death) or due to an initial typo? I didn't copy the original post, but it looks like we lost the engineer.

We're down to 4 citizens, which means the scout wasn't successful. Implications of which I am uncertain, but targeting a mafia zombie, who don't appear as citizens, cannot be discounted. Then again, TC likes his 25%, 50%, 75% probabilities, so scouting may have simply failed.

If I'm reading things correctly, the zombie horde (not the mafia) can affect lynches. I don't see anything to indicate the horde can kill or has other affects.

The town has ~10 days of food before food stocks empty. Low food level of morale decline isn't specified, but I don't think it will happen for a while. Even though the scavenger found only 1 food, they should average more per night, so food isn't yet an issue.

Dunno what to make of the housing. A home can hold 7 yet the town census shows 4/10. Housing for 10 is almost half the players. It will take 6 nights of successful scoutings plus mafia not targeting any citizen in town to reach 10/10. The scout and their "cult" should outnumber the mafia at that point. Therefore, it looks to me as if housing isn't an issue.

Researches and events sound fun. Will they affect number crunching we already know about (food, morale, defense, threat, housing) or will it be something completely different, like sharks with laser beams attached to their foreheads?

Not until after you ask Asrrin if he is advocating a doctor claim today so a backup scout can also claim and be scouted tonight.

I'd love to lynch gorny as soon as possible for dragging me into this mess, but I guess I'd better not. For now I'll listen and learn I guess ...

PS: Think night could be a bit longer and daytime a bit shorter, but what do I know ...

Interesting setup we have here. I'm pretty sure we can use the wealth of information we're receiving to break the game for town, under the right circumstances. As the scout manages to invite more people into the town, the recruits should form a strong voting block. The town stats list the number of citizens, so we have a form of mod confirmation about the recruits not being zombies.

I pretty much agree that scouts are the most vital power roles in this game. If we lose the only one we have, we're in big trouble. But, inviting a doctor followed by a scout is not that simple. The doctor cannot protect anyone until actually becoming part of town, so if a doctor were to claim now, that would be suicide. The mafia would be certain to kill him.

I'm also seeing a potential problem with the scout recruitments. If you look at what the role does, it is like a cop with guaranteed sanity upon successful recruitment, with mod-confirmed results. As far as investigative power roles go, I don't think I've seen stronger. And that makes me suspect there must be some anomalies that would make the results less certain. Maybe an anti-town role that could be invited as a citizen, or a town role that could not be invited at all. I could imagine this setup having some sort of lone wolf type town role. It is also possible that the scout has some percentage of succeeding like Goryani suggested, meaning a failed recruitment would not conclusively point to mafia.

It does seem that Uraj was the engineer. The rules post still says the town starts with one, and I remember the town stats post saying so too before TC updated it. I think we have to make a habit of keeping track of the changes there, so I'm quoting that post as it is now for future reference.

Oh, on the topic of days being a bit longer at the start, I'm all for that. 72 hours for the first couple day phases could do the game a lot of good.

Role claims right now (unless something generic like survivor) are pure silliness. It just gives the mafia more info on who's who and gives them a hit list.

I'm also guessing that the scout, upon targeting a mafia/zombie, gets killed. This would limit the power of the role so it's not able to investigate as well as recruit. there may be a protector type role that can help out the scout, as these stats and game mechanics look an awful lot like a flash game about zombies I've played before. Let me find the link and you all can take a look and see for yourselves.

I guess the best bet right now, considering the lack engineer and doctor inside the safe zone, is for the scout to lie low and target people least likely to be mafia. Once we have a few more people inside the town we'll be in a stronger position.

Just remember though, we all still have the power of the lynch, so even if the scout is killed, the Town still can easily win.
