Wolfbarbs-The ultimate guide (Revised verson)

I'm just planning ahead on my Wolfbarb and playing him out in Single Player with an editor. He's using gear pretty close to yours, with some minor changes. I haven't tested a Griswold's wep yet, but I'm expecting some low damage output compared to the eBoTD Zerker I was testing with (even the zerker only did 1100-2700, IIRC).

You've said Mastery charms are a good route to take if you can't get your hands on 3/20/20's (which I can't; way too expensive, and they're not even allowed in CH). Will they sufficiently boost my damage with a maxed weapon mastery enough to kill well? I mean...the damage just seems pretty bleak. O_o I'm sure I'm not the first person who's said that, either. ;) And then I could only guess to fill the rest of my inventory with 20 life sc's.

My numbers were something like this, with the eBoTD and Angelicx2ring/amulet setup:

AR: 12k
Defense: 11k
Damage: 1100-2700
Life: 3.1k

That's without any warcry weapons, without any charms period, and no annihilus. Are those good numbers, wolfbarb standards? 12k AR seems sheepishly low for a wolf, let alone a barbarian with maxed mastery. *shrug* I guess I should finish it entirely before I begin to question. ^^

OK, here's an update: I tested the barb again in SP, but now with all the fixings that I'd be able to attain on battle.net for real: 10 mastery gc's, anni, and all the gear (mind you, most of the gear I created on SP is the worst possible of each item, i.e. lowest defense on an SS, so I can see how the worst of the build fares). Anyways...using Gris's weapon, here are the totals with 2x Echoing Weapons on switch for a level 86 Barb:

Life: 3657
Attack Rating (Feral Rage): 16511
Defense: 27788
Damage (Feral Rage): 773-774
Strength: 206
Dexterity (75% Block): 195
Vitality: 309

Although some of the gear could be (and most likely will be) better mods, like higher strength bonuses which means I save more points for vitality, it won't make a huge huge impact. Nonetheless, it really does seem without any kind of maximum damage enhancement that the damage is painfully small with the Griswold's weapon, though the Feral Rage is incredibly fast, and I run like the WIND! My defense is absolutely huge, much more than I expected, and will most likely be more about 30k with higher quality gear.

It just seems that with the Griswold weapon in mind, the build relies too much on some kind of 3/20/20 sc, or an equivalent damage enchantment.

I have 90% of the gear, just started into nightmare, how do I lvl? just sit in baal games and gain exp?

MrPipes: Well, it seems you have run into a few problems, and yes going the Mastery route might prove alot less damage as compared to max/ar/life charms. However the only true way to gain more damage is by sacrificing speed and obtaining a different weapon. Though seeing you have maxed Mace Mastery the only suitable weapon that fits this is a Shael'd Stormlash which hits 7 frames and has far better damage than caddy using Mastery charms. (Your preferance.) As for your other stats, your AR is dependant on the Wolf shift, so by having a higher shift will give you better results. Your defense is good, but you life is a little low a few Vita charms should help a bit there. This is all I have to say for now, good luck with you Wolfbarb.

Ebyworx: Thats pretty much the case, unfortunatly due to such demanding level requirements it's how you gotta level.

Im sure Hal or someone else has already mentioned this but some of the +skills on hoto don't stack because of the oskill restrictions. Maybe it would be best to try something else for prebuff? Maybe I just wasn't paying attention.

The + skill on HoTO will stack, it's a +all skill. x2 HoTO's would be the best prebuffing weapons but there are many others, like Arioc's Needle, or Mang's Song, even the Death Web's wands work.

Zero, I love your guide even more.

I got to lvl86, I can prebuff with valor now and my OW is much more deadly.

I have 7K life (my goal  ), 19K AR, 22K Def, and 1.1K max dmg. My charms are mostly lifers, no 32020. If I had 32020s I would kick much more *** than I already do.

I just killed two eth botd zerker, exile, eth 1337 unique armor paladins tonight. A conc barb stood no chance and a melee sorc was a joke.

I LOVE THIS BARB. My barb costs 1/8 that most godly pvp melee chars do and I'm making them resort to smiting and overall bad manners :wink2:

Hats of to yah bud!

guide

nice man thats a cool guide there im thinking of making one. once i get the equipment though. i got most of it though so thats cool. i just need a wolfhowl =/. but damn my diablo aint working though, i hope it works soon though i sent a email to bnet to see if they can do anything

nice kbob

hey thats one kickass barb but wat wep? cause 1.1k sounds low =/ but your life and everything else is very nice i plan on using bstar. and that avatar is so awesome =)

I'm still don't completely understand how OW works in pvp. Does the total percentage actually reflect how often it goes off?

Open Wounds is based on your character level, it does an amount of damage over 10 seconds. The more % chance you have the more often it will trigger. The way you can tell how much damage its doing is by multiplying you character level by 25 and thats its damage.

Actually, I'm using an SP editor to make all this up, so I can easily change stuff. ;) I'll definetly try it out with the eBoTD Zerker, although in reality I love swinging so fast. From your guide, you mentioned ebotd in a War Spike; I'm assuming for better speed?

Yeah, hopefully once I actually do create my Wolfbarb I'll attain better than absolute-bottom-of-the-barrel stat gear which'll boost my numbers!

Can't wait to keep going on him. Even though I haven't gotten far, I love the idea of having a good one soon. Great guide! ;)

I had a wolfbarb up to lvl 85 using gris caddy and was tearing up pk rooms. got a beast zerker axe so I am rebuilding, but at lvl 82 he is tight. now I only need lvl 85 so I can get UbEr life and wc's.

best weapon for pvm wolfbarb

i want to use my wolf howl, but i play singleplayer pvm. what are some of the best weapons for a pvm wolfbarb. Or is is a waste to make a pvm wolfbarb?

I tried to read this whole thread, but for some reason i cannot access most of the pages. i apologize if this has been asked and answered earlier.

btw, i do have many of the elite unique weapons, but i am very rune-poor.
thanks

gris weapon, lightsabre, azerwath(sp?), bstar, and aldurs are all good choices. what weapons were you thinking of using?

i have been leaning towards mace-class. i have a bstar and stonecrusher. i also have several windhammers. i also have a lightsabre, several hellslayers, and lots of ethereal edges. dozens of IK mauls. bloodmoon x 5, honehew x 3, reapers toll, demons arch, djinn slayer, frostwind, hellracks, reavers runemaster, viperfork.......

i just dont know if pvm means i should use a different setup than pvp. it seems to me that fighting packs of monsters in hell is quite different than wailing on on particular, twinked, sentient foe (duel) -- with which i have zero experience.

What do you think of this item set up? I read through the whole thread, and traded for the following:

3/5/5/6 Wolfhowl (what do I put in it?)
Angelic Amy/Rings Combo
+2 Arkaine's Valour (what do I put in it?)
SS (socket with ?)
4 Shael Griz Caddy with Mang Song (+5 all) on switch (it's 1 skill away from 2 hotos and significantly cheaper)
15% dr/37 vit verdungo
9ll/15 str dracs
Gores

18/11/10 anni. And I only have a Barb Mastery with 32 life GC so far, this is on ladder, so 3/20/20s aren't plentiful - but I'll be magic finding to trade for more b mastery gcs.

What do I put in the three open sockets and is there anything I'm lacking in besides charms?

edit: I also have duress, defense is similar, hit recovery with a shael is higher than duress, res isn't worth notice b/c ud switch armr most likely to fight a caster, and then it comes down to whether the +ed, +cold, and +open wounds is worth sacrificing over 120 life and +2 skills.

Oh, and I have a lot of vita small charms, but no fine charms, so my dmg will be pretty low, but that's expected - I plan to do only melee duels and beat them with 50% pdr, good defense, and sick life.
