ARggh... Maggots + Grotesques in River of Flame! 1003506663464 baby monsters to kills one by one. :hang: But I will not give up.

Ok, so I gave up and restarted from city of the damned wp. I forgot I had /players6 on. :banghead: Oh well, only baby spawning Grotesques this time. :wave:

@whommy: Here is a guide that explains poison damage more than you will ever want to know =). Also the excel file in there is a nice off-line program to calculate your poison damage for almost every different item setup.

I had some NDEs in both CotD and RoF because I was lazy and didn't drink potions before I really needed them. Some crazy boss groups. :coffee:

Finally Sven had carved forward all the way to the Hellforge leaving dead monsters in the wake. Sven lifted the hammer and destroyed the Soulstone and THIS drops. Holy crap. :jig:

My first HC character ever and it must be my lucky char!

Lancelot had two NDEs in the durance. The first one was in Durance 2 when I was bored looking for the waypoint (that place is huge). I started running through without killing anything and dimming as much as possible. That resulted in being surrounded by a crowd of Urdar. Lancelot took four rejuves before finally managing to terror them off. Then Meph himself - he was busy with golem and then all of a sudden for no reason he turns and fires some lightening at Lancelot. Yowsers - I had 45 life in the bucket when I had managed to get sufficiently far away to check. Note to self: -15 lightening resist is not enough to run Meph. Oh, the plains of despair were a pain too for similar reasons.

Sorry Jimmah, didn't know where Sven has got to so I couldn't include your latest update in the table.

Did rest of Act5 and killed Baal too while I was at it. My first (and currently only) baal run spawned Death Lords, OKs and Gloams in the Throne, LOL! :whistling:

I had a NDE in Frigid (FE explosion by a "thres socket"-monster) also a NDE in the ancients (cursed) and another NDE in the Throne (FE explosion on a Death Lord). I'm doing about 1-2k damage, but I feel all the points into str/dex to equip the sword is gonna make Hell a VERY hard place. Only about 1,5k hp after BO. I'm afraid I'll deeds any moment in Hell.

@Jimmah: Lol, you seem the fastest progresser atm. This tourney is starting to slow down but it always brings a smile to my face when i read ur updates. I just wanted to tell you that it would be a good idea to rush through hell and at the most be level 77 before you fight baal. Good luck and i hope you dont die.

We've made it to the River of Flame and completed the Hell Forge which yielded a Lem. That puts me in a bit of a quandry as I now have all the runes (except maybe the Ort) for Passion.

When I started the tournament, I had thought as an endgame to have either Passion or Crescent Moon in a Zweihander, but as Lancelot has 55ish strength and 30 dex with 30 stat points outstanding he needs another 100 stats before we will be able to wield one. And those 130 stats could be turned into an extra 260 life. And unlike the enchantresses, I can't stick to a normal quality weapon and rely on enchant for the damage.

It might solve part of my to hit dilemma - Berserk gives +100% off the bat, and then there is HoW and I could hire a blessed aim merc. But I'm at 650 life right now, which would be a bit low for hell. And without a shield, the resists aint gonna be pretty either. Decisions, decisions...

All of this might be academic of course, we don't even know we're going to make it to hell.

With Soulflay, I don't know how much damage Lancelot does; maybe an average of 100, but it takes 7 swings to deliver that with a to hit % of 15. Needless to say, he isn't the quickest killer on the block.

Yes I finally had enough stats @lvl 67 to wear my upgraded SoD. I feel like I'm playing an untwinked Titan. :wave: I also have a Pul, but I doubt I'll ever see the needed Lum for next upgrade.

Hah, thanks. I've had lots of free time and a sprained ankle. :D Also I believe my relatively high damage has helped me along. It was a long time ago I got excited everytime a rare drops. :yes:

Do I either rush hell to get in the lead or I'll play slow and safe just so I can get my first Guardian ever? Hmm, decisions. :scratchchin:


Edit: I should have played sc so I could have become a Patriarch using The Patriarch. :D

Kavarin, jimmah: Great progress!

Things have seemed a bit slower lately. I hope at least the folks who are in NM will keep at it.

I should be in NM again by the end of the day. My progress has been slowed by my deep desrire to keep this character alive, so he's done a lot of re-running. Might hurt me at being too high a level at the end, but I have to live that long for that to be a consideration. I've killed Eldritch on p8 umpteen times, and managed some modest gear upgrades for my effort. Turin's life orb is at a robust 667 (or thereabouts--seems like a lot compared to some of the further-along characters mentioned above), but I've had to dump a lot of points in the last several levels to Dex/Str so I'm ready to upgrade Shadowfang. Don't have a Sol yet, but I'm sure the Countess in NM will (eventually) provide one. The damage from Shadowfang with Sacrifice can kill in 1-2 hits on players 1, but any higher and he's got to do a lot of swinging. The upgrade will more than double the damage, and might be the endgame sword at that point. It will be VERY hard for my sacrificer to throw away Shadowfang's 9% life leech. And what do I socket the thing with? Not sure.

I also have some more pgems to do some crafting, but I'm going to wait until I'm a little higher level. Also still have the imbue from normal that I'm not sure what to do with. Might take a chance later on a merc weapon if I can find something white and elite to imbue, but that's a ways down the road.

@ Sixstringer: I would consider socketing it with a Amn. That would give you more life steal. It's important not to forget that there are pretty hefty leach penalties in NM, cut by 50%, and in hell, which cuts it by 66%. So in hell your 9% life leech will only be 3%, when compared to the 8% your giving up with each hit.

Lately I haven't had much time for D2 due to exams (two four hour exams in two days, good times). With those out of the way, however, Bul-Kathos the mighty barbarian finally saw some action today.

I progressed nicely through Act 3 today, finding a couple of interesting items (e.g. two Rogue's Bow, though not in the same game). Did a couple of LK runs with nothing to show for it and found no other replacements. Managed to hork a Dol rune, which is my highest so far with this particular character. Hoorah.

Eventually, Mephisto bit the dust. As you can see, his drop was quite the tease, for obvious reasons:

The more I think about it, the more I agree. Amn with this character is almost certainly a better choice than Shael, as lvl 20 fanat without Shael gives 13.5 fpa, and with a Shael is 11.5. Since there's not much likelihood of getting many +skills, Turin's attacks won't get much faster than that, Shaeled or not.

Currently, he has 12% LL, with 3% from some blood gloves. I can equip another 2% right now with a pair of blood boots I made, but they're not great otherwise, so right now they're stashed. I can count on a little bit more from blood gear that gets crafted, but having 16% on the weapon will do a lot of good.

The only other option might be some godly gem--resists, enhanced damage, or something, but that would take a bit of luck.

Finished Act 3.No NDEs that I can recall, I've been backing away immediately if I think there's too much monsters around and I can't take them down from behind the merc. Meph was easy with the same tactic that I used against Duriel: whirl whirl whirl and a million trips to town. Oh, and he dropped nothing, what a surprise.

A couple of finds worth mentioning: Telling of Beads (Thanks, can I NOW get the first rare one? :whistling: ), Blackbog's Sharp (eth) and Sigon's gauntlets.

Still no SoD though. I wish the thing would just drop, the tension is killing me. :)

I definitely would not be upset by that. Not having a SOD means your extremely flexible to your weapon choice. You can switch to and from utility swords (amp, poison, ect) to your main big hitting sword. Plus the longer you wait the better chance you have of your SOD being something great.

EDIT: Theirs a very high chance of getting a shadowfang at nightmare meph.

@bladejj: That's true I guess...not that I have much swords to choose from with the drops I've been having. It's just a "Lets get this over with"-feeling with the SoD.

@dlav: I think I would go insane doing that, whacking Meph the first time took ages, plus I didn't bother getting the Durance WP. I don't think I'll be doing much rerunning in this tourney anyway. "Forward, said the granny stuck in snow" as they say around here. (I just had to say that, even if one shouldn't translate these)

Re-entering the tournament with another paladin. He's hopefully going to be my first 2H Fanazealot. Why Fana and Zeal over skills like Vengeance or even sacrifice? I did toy around with sacrifice but i admit that being the newb I am it didnt feel safe, i was frequently on low life and its a hassle to click on every single mob. Same applies to vengeance, untwinked and clicking on every mob? Nahhhh, dont have that kind of patience atm.


So, Kull, my fanazealot, has already reached clev20 (dispatched Andariel a few minutes ago without a hickup) and is shapping up nicely. Gear consists mainly of highdef plategear from vendors and a 3socket Claymore (going to go runehunting to socket it). No amulet and only 1 rare ring found. Andariel did drop an average nagelring,

I finally installed ATMA and the runewordmods, so no more vanilla play. Tried out the runewordmods on my Frostzealer and it rocks. Old news to you all but hey, its new to me :)

Heh . . . I did the same thing during this tournament; I had never used ATMA before. Now Turin has something like 300+ items in his stash. On a sidenote, the usefulness of ATMA means I've pretty much kissed bnet goodbye for good now, having discovered the coolness of the SPF four years after I started playing DII. I still haven't installed the runeword mod, but I guess I will sooner or later.

@Kimppi: I think you have tied Raver and his deceased character Natasha as the player to go the longest distance without an SoD. He hit the Pand. Fort at level 59 without a SoD. Your next WP without a drop and you'll pass him for progress without achieving Destiny.

Incidentally, your long SoD-less run got me thinking that there's no rule that says you have to have an SoD to win the tournament. Too late for that now, but there probably should have been. I already have an idea for a follow up tournament brewing (after this one dies down, of course) so I'll be sure to make that a stipultation.
