The SandMan, TinMan, and the DeadMan made their way to Baal's throne and slayed the demon.
The battle itself took over 10minutes and the TinMan had to call in his friend FireMan as a replacement to save on cash for potions.

After talking to the arch angel, the adventures found out they're work was nowhere near completion.
Time to venture into the Nightmare realm.

Just in case you didn't clicky, I failed to concentrate on Orange Juice during the skirmish with Bloodwitch the Wild: Amped, surrounded by skellies/zombies being resurrected rather quickly by 4 or 5 Unravellers in the cube room, and a couple of Bloodwitch's friends. Yep. I am teh suxxorz!

I'm a bit confused here: Imbue rare weapon to be able to give it to merc? Are we not suppose to give rare weapons on merc? :scratchchin:

Rares are allowed, both on you and your merc. Blues, sets, uniques and runewords (except for your sword) aren't, from what I understand.

Anyway, I decided to enter this tournament with a softcore barbarian. Once he dies, I'll continue playing him but with different gear, so for now he's chasing (and being chased by) those incredibly annoying kids in Act 3. The goal is to turn him into a 2h-wielding Frenzy barbarian and currently I'm level 22 so no Frenzy just yet.

I haven't played any non-twinked characters in a while so playing one that not only isn't twinked but also is not allowed to wear certain items is challenging. Ironically, I've found some very useful items that I'm not allowed to equip, but I guess I'll mule them over to other characters once he dies.

So far I've been near death a handful of times, the closest when Leap Attacking the Summoner (in Arc Sant) only to realize his platform was full of mobs, my mana orb empty and my belt practically void of health potions. With my last mana pot I managed to leap away and pop a quick TP and restock.

Lancelot has vanquished Nightmare Andy and found his sword of destiny - Soulflay (yay!). With < 20% chance to hit, as of late Act 1 he is not really pulling his weight in the merry band of three (Merc, Iggy and him). No NDEs in Act 1. It was a little tough to make it through to the Dry Hills with four unique bands of slingers but thanks to 3200 HP of Iron Golem tank we're still surviving.

On reaching Dark Forest I actually started a new character due to the lack of viable methods to boost chance to hit. Level 20 Druid, Karadin is at the beginning of Act 2. Trading Iggy+Curses for the bear+heart of the wolverine seems like a good deal. For the moment though, I'm back with my necro and slogging through. The current plan is to max dim vision and the next exceptional white pole I see is getting imbued.

After farming LK for a while and cubing up the finds, But-Kathos (my level 23 Frenzy barbarian) headed for Travincal. Sadly, I realized his level was a bit too low, missing both BO and Frenzy, two very important skills that would both be available at level 24. I decided to stop by one of those two temples surrounding the Kurast Causeway, knowing they usually hold one or two bosses which are a great source of XP.

However, I hadn't expected this. My Sword of Destiny.

Considering my level it's quite an upgrade, especially in the leech department (my previous sword was socketed with a flawless skull). Luckily I got a good roll and the fact that the damage is purely physical results in much greater leeching. The resistance bonus is a nice touch, though to be completely honest I would've prefered a slightly faster sword, despite its +10% IAS.

Anyway, onwards to Mephisto!

Well... Since I have nothing better to do, I decided that third time's the charm and continued my lvl 9 Enchant Sorc, Sassy_Lass. Sword and hair a-blazin', she just turned 18 and it's wild party night out here in Lut Gholein! I hear there's a widow in town that needs comforting. :whistling: :jig: :wink: Enchant dmg is a staggering 15-19 thanks to foolish Warmth spending (better save the points for Fm I suppose, but I want to be able to actually kill something by myself). Right now my merc is still a better killer than me, and that is with a plain Voulge! I went with a Blessed aim merc and my cth is now decent enough (went from ~65% to ~78%).

Looking at my stat points I have realized something: I must settle for a normal quality weapon if I am to survive at all in Nm and Hell; I need every possible point and then some for mana and life. Yes, I plan to use Es... 75% absorb is still plenty. I plan to have a life/mana ratio of 1:2, just to be on the safe side with regards to manaburn. Blood mana's the charm though... But it would be too inefficient to go life > mana with the untwinked setup.

Since sorcs hit very slowly with twohanded swords, I'm planning to make Passion in a Flamberge (base speed -10; fastest normal quality sword). Pity that it gets 5 sockets from Larzuk. Maybe there's an area somewhere that drops 'max-4sox' swords of this kind? Anyway, I won't die to IM this way, and my Enchant dmg is >2000 in the end if I've calculated correctly. Even if not, it will suffice plenty well if Cyrax made it with 300 dmg (ouch). Hoping for a high ar roll on the Passion though...

And the NDEs? Well, let's just say there's been more of those than safe situations. I can't be ***ed to clear every room in every catacomb; this baby lives dangerously! Now that we have Teleport, let's, well, teleport everywhere and see where that gets us. Should be interesting... :coffee: :scratchchin: :jig:

Since my last update i didnt play. I decided to just update the table. I always get motivated to play and when i turn on my old piece of crap and hear the engine rumble im even more excitat.(spelled the so wrong ;) ) Anyway...... As soon as i start playing and go into that wretched desert i am bored as hell and autamticly save and exit and turn off my computer which is only used for that one game plus cossacks. I might never update again or i might get jittery and go full force into guardian. All i can say is, It was fun while it lasted.

Just walked through River and beat the tar out of Diablo. Played Chaos Sanctuary on /pl1 as I was using a weak Berserk and almost none of the corpses could be used for Grim Wards. Nothing good dropped.

It seems like Soulflay is a popular SoD this tournament. I'm still waiting to see if anyone gets stuck with an Awl. :strong:

Well, after testing several builds (Am I the only DII player who HATES Zeal? I just can't take it's randomness in groups) I'm back with another Sacrifice paladin, Turin. The last one was too much fun and I can't stay away. He's killed Andy (several times, actually), and as such now has rare equipment for himself and his merc in every slot but one ring.

I really hope he lives long enough to get a SoD--any SoD!

Well, I´ve maxed both Enchant and FM and my merc (with a +97% damage Poleaxe) is still a better killer than me! He doesn´t get the "double benefit" of the Fire Mastery (just regular Enchant damage), but he hits much faster than I do...

But here, I think in the opposite direction. My Life will be as big as I can get it. I plan to get a low-level ES just to make some use of my mana pool during fights, other than just teleporting around.

Yes, if it´s ilvl 26-40, it will have 4 sockets max.

Also, through the entire Nightmare difficulty, nothing can drop with more than 4 sockets (even if a plain one will have 5 sockets max once you get to around Outer Cloister), and I think you have 25% chance of 4 sockets once a Flamberge "decides" to drop with sockets. If you clear out most areas, I think you have a much higher chance to find one than not finding one. ;)

I am so with you buddy! I don´t get what the fuss is all about either. Zeal is far too "unprecise" for my liking.

I agree about Zeal. I only use it as a backup skill for Charge and for crowd control.

I managed to get killed with amazon I started. In catacombs level 2 from bosspack of zombies... ouch.
I started a Druid, so that game would be even more harder :badteeth:

It gets life bonus from Summon Dire Wolf and AR bonus (not needed, in my experience) from Summon Spirit Wolf.





Yesterday, I did something I have not done before: play the entire Act V in one day. Everything (including Ancients and Baal) was done on /p8.

A good thing about Act V is that you have quick access to all the merc types. Marion changed mercs several times. Prayer merc was best in general and was used the most, but a Rogue is much better against the packs with Lashers (because it´s much easier to lure the Slayers to you (so they don´t mutate) if the merc doesn´t run to the packs. Also, a Rogue is far more effective than a melee merc in imp-infested areas. On WSK level 2, I had help from a Cold Iron Wolf to slay the suicide bombers. Missed only one.

More crafting has been done. Managed to score 16% MF on some Blood boots, and I´ve crafted three Caster amulets. The third was the best, with 14% Resist All and the wacky 'ctc Hydra when struck' suffix. It has rlvl 49, so I have only been able to wear it just recently. I´ve also crafted a Blood helm for the merc. 3% life steal and 8% Deadly Strike. A Mesh Belt (that I plan to buy from Charsi) will follow as soon as I have another perfect ruby. If my affix calculations are correct, I have just reached the level where 'of the Colossus' is possible to get. Potentially up to 80 life on a belt, plus OW and chance of good resists. Yummy! Hey, one can dream...

A Jewel of Prosperity dropped, and I put it into Shadowfang right away. This is a temporary sword, and I may as well try to get some help finding more rares before I switch to a Runeword sword. So my MF is now up to +61%:
Gloves: 23
Boots: 16
Ring: 13
Jewel in sword: 9

Remaining potential MF slots: charms, amulet, a second ring and a circlet (or two).


I have not seen my resists in NM, but I think that with my new amulet and some stashed charms (I gradually took off charms in the act, when they were not needed anymore) I should be around the max.

Took on Baal at exactly 500 life. As soon as I was in Baal´s melee range, he ignored the merc (even when the merc was closer to him). Marion had to retreat a couple of times. When Baal hit with several 'Poke-me-in-the-Eye' attacks in succession, the greater healers could not keep up with the life loss. I chugged a couple of rejuves in the fight, too.

I like to think my fiery sword whacks did some good damage, but to be honest, the major benefit about Marion´s tanking in this fight was probably that the merc was left alone to poke Baal with his stick.

I think I´ll keep the Prayer merc for the next act. But the Freeze Mage sure is tempting, with all those Fallen coming up. And most of the threat in the act usually comes from archers, and those are best handled with a rogue merc, at her maximum range. Decisions, decisions...

Edit: Not perfect here, but looked good in the editor. Maybe there's a difference on how TextEdit (converted to plain text) and Notepad handles the format.

Hey everyone- sorry i sorta forgot i was in this tourney just been busy and all, but i started playing the zon again and she died : / so now im gonna reenter for a last time! :D
This time im going to enter a barbarian and just to give it a good challenge ill only use the combat mastery tree, His name shall be... Vengeance

Normal Cows. IIRC any sword that drops there will get 4 sockets* from Lazaruk, or at least that's how I always get my first 4os Crystal Sword.

*Excluding, of course, any swords with a max of 2 or 3 sockets.

Edit - This looks kinda fun - it has been a while since I played untwinked, I think I'm going to make this the first single player tourny I enter into.

I'm going to enter as a Paladin - name: "Bob". I plan to use Holy Freeze at times, is that still OK I didn't read through the whole thread but it seems it is allowed?
