Re: The Questions Thread

I found a low quality 0os Monarch.
A recipe found at arreat summit:

1 El Rune + 1 Chipped Gem + Low Quality Armor = Normal Quality Armor of same type

So, I could make a standard quality Monarch out of it. But the corresponding low->standard recipe for weapons said it sets the ilvl to 1. Does it do the same for armor? Because then it would be a useless Monarch that couldn't carry 4 sockets, right?

Well, it'd be useless for Spirit -- an ilvl 1 shield would have up to 3 sockets, I believe.

Re: The Questions Thread

A Monarch cubed from a low quality or broken version can only get 3 sockets. I speak from heartbreaking experience on this one.

Re: The Questions Thread

Noobiecakes: a bearsin can get a 2fpa attack apparently, also iirc, smite is a 2 frame attack with holy shield activated. Zealots aim for 4fpa iirc

Naab has already corrected the smite = 6FPA cap.
Assassins in Bear form can only get 3FPA. The 2FPA in the original guide was incorrect because of an error on the Dragoon's website IIRC. TitanSeal posted the correct breakpoints on another site (Named after the drainage area of the largest river on the planet, if you get my drift).

Breakpoints are (on weapon only):
WIAS - WSM => FPA
051 => 5
070 => 4
126 => 3
172 => 2 (i.e. not possible)

Re: The Questions Thread

So, from the fastest attack we have:

2 frame attack - dual wielding WWind?
3 frame attack - assasin in bear form
3 and a bit - dragon talon(only usable against un-knockbackable:P monsters due to lots of knockbacking kicks against a single target, right? I never played a kicker)
a bit less then 4 - jab(only obtainable with the help of fanaticism)
4 - bear's attack
4 and a bit - zeal/fury/fend
5 - dragon claw/frenzy/double swing
6 - smite

Whirlwind has the fastest speed of 4 frames, but if you dual wield each weapon strikes once per 4 frames giving something like a 2 frames attack.

Is the list correct?

Re: The Questions Thread

WWS gives ability to fire slvl 20 magic arrows but are the arrows still magic arrows if I use Strafe?

Re: The Questions Thread

@Flayed One: Correct. Dragon Talon is single target only, but I have never really had a problem with the Knockback.

@Bassen: No they are not, only with Normal attack.

Re: The Questions Thread

Er...I feel pretty noobish for asking this, but:

Does a mercenary's aura work the same as a paladins? i.e, does the Holy Freeze aura add cold damage to the mercenary's attacks? I assumed so, but you never know.

Not sure if this was answered as there are so many posts to go through...

Anyway the answer is YES. You can look at his damage with and without the aura, and you'll see a difference.

Re: The Questions Thread

Okay, I need some suggestions:

Vampire Gaze
Grim Helm
Defense: 378
Durability: 21 of 21
Required Strength: 48
Required Level: 41
Item Version: 1.10+ Expansion
Item Level: 85
Fingerprint: 0x8f63da3d
+100% Enhanced Defense
Magic Damage Reduced by 14
Damage Reduced by 20%
Adds 6-22 cold damage over 4 seconds
8% Life stolen per hit
8% Mana stolen per hit
15% Slower Stamina Drain
Ethereal (Cannot be Repaired), Socketed (1: 0 used)

I want to make that helm even better for any Merc. What would you socket it with? Ias jewel with nice 2nd mod, all res jewel, Ed jewel, Sol or what? I'm looking for the most efficient way to pimp that helm

Also, would you upgrade it? For extra defense, it never hurts right?

I would probably put a PRuby. You can almost never go wrong with that. almost 40 extra life sounds like a good investements if you don't know what else to put.

Re: The Questions Thread

I'd choose pruby/ed jewel or ias/sumthing jewel, wouldnt bother with resist jewels since resists get maxed after a while anyway. And a pruby isnt a big loss if you decide you want something else alter, either.

Iirc you might actually end up with lower defense if you upgrade it, since when you find a unique it rolls with highest possible defense for the base item, but if you upgrade it the base defense will randomly roll, and sometimes the lowest def roll possible for an elite is lower than highest exceptional base item of the same type, and wouldn't it feel like a punch in the groin to upgrade an item for quite the runes, just to get a worse one, with lower def and higher req's.
^this last bunch of text is just that I recall, I cannot really promise you 100%

Re: The Questions Thread

It reduce fire/cold/lightning/magic damages by the set number. IIRC, it applies before resist.

Unless you play energy shield sorc, just forget it. You will never get enough to make difference. ES sorc however, loves it since ES apply first, which already reduced 95% damages.

Ok, this has to be settled! Is MDR applied before or after resists. The guy that posted before you said its after.

On a side note, I have about 40% fire resist in Hell, but about 20 MDR with a zon, and I can stay in inferno from act 3 guys as long as I want. My other chars with higher resist, but no MDR (in Normal) get really burnt!

What's the deal?

What's the advantage of a Monarch vs a Pavise. And by this I mean the 4 os versions. I see that the pavise has about 2% higher block rate, but the monarch has about double the defense (or 70 extra defense), but higher str req.

Aside from defense, why people prefer monarch's?

And since I'm at it... How do I get a 4 os pavise or even tower shield? Playing the games it seems they are as rare (if not rarer) than unique items. I mean I get much more unique items drops than 4 os (or even 3 os) Tower Shield/Pavise.

Re: The Questions Thread

So Monarch is the "lowest requirements" shield that can get 4 sockets?
That's quite some strength required.

And how about finding that 3 os TShield/Pavise?

Edit2: If I find a Tshield/pavise and I go to larzuk to add sockets or I use the cube recipie: Tal + Amn +PRuby +Normal Shield
Will I get the maximum number of sockets?

Edit: I just checked the link. Sorceress Orbs can have 3 sockets??? I mean the little ones, that only take 2 spaces in ineventory? I'd like to see how they display in the inventory. Maybe a picture or something? Still kinda hard to believe.

Last Edit: NVM, I found the answers to my questions. And for those that might have had the same questions here they are:
To find OS items, go do Cow level with as little MF as possible
Those little orbs cannot have 3 sockets due to inventory space
Larzuk Quest and Cube recipie will add a random number of sockets on normal items, so cow level is better.

Re: The Questions Thread

Any item has two numbers for maximum sockets. The one listed at the AS is dependent on the specific item (i.e., long sword, broad sword, etc.). The other is based on item type (i.e., sword, mace, orb, etc.) and ilvl. A particular item at a particular ilvl will be capped at the lowest of these two numbers.

Larzuk adds the maximum number of sockets to an item, constrained by the above. The socketing recipe adds a random number of sockets.

No, Larzuk will give you the maximum number of sockets allowed for that item at that ilvl.

And for the cube, I'll quote someone smarter and more eloquent than me

No it is not. It's uniform to have 1 to 6 sockets but anything over the maximum is capped to the max. So:

Code:
Max Number of sockets (chance)
1 1 (1/1)
2 1 (1/6), 2 (5/6)
3 1 (1/6), 2 (1/6), 3 (2/3)
4 1 (1/6), 2 (1/6), 3 (1/6), 4 (1/2)
5 1 (1/6), 2 (1/6), 3 (1/6), 4 (1/6), 5 (1/3)
6 1 (1/6), 2 (1/6), 3 (1/6), 4 (1/6), 5 (1/6), 6 (1/6)
Topi

EDIT: bah, pwned while using the search function

Re: The Questions Thread

So you guys say that if i find a pavise/Tshield in Hell and I get sockets from Larzuk, I will get the maximum number of sockets for that item, because the mlvls in hell are high enough.

But then the following webpage (http://www.purediablo.com/wiki/Sockets) states:

"The number of sockets from the socket quest is not affected by the difficulty level, only by the qlvl of the item, which is based on the mlvl of the monster that drops it... On top of this, the number of sockets is semi-random. Testing in single player (where the same item can be used multiple times, by exiting the game without saving) has yielded varying numbers of sockets, using the exact same item and quest reward. The number you get seems to be +/- 1 from what you'd expect the max to be for that item. "

How can this be exaplained?
