Ugh! Most of Act 3 was a pain. I think I've hit the wall and won't get much further. The merc sports a Strength War Fork (the Amn + Tir Runeword) now, but that won't cut it either. He needs some good gear and Mephy looks like the one who has to provide it. He goes down reasonable fast, but is quite dangerous. And then there are those dolls....

Well, we'll see how long Eirin survives running him. :smiley:

Well, Inara just died to a nondescript pack of Flesh Spawners on the way to the Chaos Sanctuary :sad2: . I'm not sure what happened, one second I was near full health and the next I was dead.

Earlier the Hellforge had given me a Lum:grin: , and while I was eager to push on to act 5 where Dusk Shrouds start dropping so I could make a nice 'Smoke' armour I also thought it was a bit risky given my low health and still low level Energy shield. With that in mind I did a few Andy runs and found a Viscerataunt, then did a few Meph runs and found Tal's mask from a boss on durance 2. In a few levels my merc could've used that and had end game gear already (Kelpie Snare, Haemosu's and Tals) but alas I lost patience and succumbed. In hindsight I really should've dropped to /players 1 for Act 4 instead of the /players 3 I was on. Good luck to those remaining in the tournament, now I'm going to look through my stashes and see how I can make best use of my Lum :cool: .
 
Unfortunately, while Macho_Lady was battling in the Tombs of Tal Rasha she met her (softcore) death. She had just gambled for a circket with +19-42 Fire Damage and I was bit too overconfident of her killing power. Her red bulb got low and something took her out as the last monster died (Maybe FE or CE monster. )

Good luck to everyone else.. I'll obviously keep following the action and help out with any questions, disputes, rules interpretations.

So, chanty met her death at the hands of Big D and the pink lightning. But, as it was softcore I took her through act 5 and killed baal anyway. (I needed the completion so I could start my Sept off)

The Enchantress build was fun, but now its time for some more conventional characters. Good luck everyone still in.

When I joined the tourney, I was sure I wouldn't get past Chaos Sanctuary, if at all I got that far. I'm now at Harrogath :jig:

Leveled up to 26 in AS, started at /p2, worked my way up to /p8 as I felt more comfortable. Dropped back to /p1 for the rest of the game. Only drop of note was Darkglow (+10 resist all, +5 max resist all), which I'm still wearing. +max resist rocks, difference between 75% resist and 80% is a 20% reduction in actual damage.

I approached Duriel with some trepidation, completely unwarranted. He went down in *seconds* One full pink to keep the merc alive, and a red for myself 'cause my health dipped just a teeny-weeny bit, that's all.

Act 3 was unconditional surrender. One-hit killing virtually everything. The high council took 2-4 hits. Meph went down easily too. As the entrance to Durance 3 was only a room away from the wp on Dur. 2, I thought of running Meph for better equipment. He dropped total junk, so I abandoned that idea.

Early act 4 was easy too. Fire/Light/Cold/Poison resistances were 80/80/76/42 at this point. Even Izzy went down quickly, er, relatively speaking. Abyss knight mages in the River of Flame did a lot of damage, but no other worries there. HF gave me a Ral (good? bad? ugly?) Re-ran RoF until level 30. Found a Grand Charm of Balance, rest was junk.

With my first point into FM, I stepped into CS. What a nightmare... I wasn't worried about IM as I was still using my steel flail, doing mostly fire damage. In any case, I was mostly using a bow in RoF and CS as it allowed me to deal effectively with the mix of ranged and melee enemies. Anyway, the merc got IM'd far too often, causing one death and requiring many trips to Jamella. The seal bosses.. the Infector is the guy I dread the most. Opened the seal, tele'd out of the cul-de-sac and moved in slowly, but the whole lot of them came charging out. Tele'd frequently to get the merc out of danger, but he still fell. 'twas easy to finish off the mob after reviving the merc. De Seis was next, tele'd out once again, this time could lure some of the minions out of the fanaticism range. No problems at all. The Grand Vizier was a walk in the park, switched to melee and thwacked till they fell.

I had this plan to tank D, tele'ing out just as he was about to do firestorm or LBOD. Bad mistake. The merc lasted less than a second. I guess my reaction time was not good enough, for I was usually a little late in tele'ing out and ended up taking a lot of damage. Back to bow. The LBOD still hurt a lot, but I could ignore the firestorm and fire nova altogether (80% resists!). Multiple NDEs later, the quest button popped up.

Atleast it was worth it. D. dropped Magefist (+1 fire skills, 25% mana regen, 20%FCR), venom ward, and a rare ring mail with +def +30% poison resist, +24%FHR +53 life. Can't really complain there.

Only NDEs were with Diablo, but had a tough time with the Infector too. CS in general was slow progress, the rest I just screamed through. I need better weapons, and CBF, but 'most everything else is in place.

Having played far too many melee enchantresses I opted for the ranged route. Used my first imbue on a repeating crossbow I found in the river of flame and later upped it with my amn from the hell forge. Took some rerunning to find the psapphire though.
Nothing really dangerous except the mistake of having too low resistances when facing Diablo.
Right now Im rerunning Baal in a slow pace to get a ranged unique with explosive arrows/bolts and sigons gloves (hoping for skin of the vipermagi or another good armor along the way).

I have had a lot of luck in drops in the past few hours. I am amazed at my weapon, Kuko Shakaku Cedar Bow, this thing is awesome. Correct me if I’m wrong but I’m pretty sure the exploding arrow synergizes with Enchant, because every explosion hurts everything around it. Baal was nice enough to drop me that Kuko Shakaku Cedar Bow, as well as Drawf Start, which makes fire not a problem. I like the ranged route, sense I had this bow I have not had one NDE. I also found a Tarnhelm and Felloak Club (HC grailer) from the Cow King. My merc was really happy when I found the ethereal Unique Pike, which also has added fire damage. Well I’m off to go kill the Countess and complete Act I NM (knock on wood).

O.K., hope this update effort is better than the last, shin-kicking one:rolleyes:
 
There is so much conflicting information about enchant damage mechanics. I did the math to find out exactly what's going on. Questions I wanted an answer to:

* Is FM damage multiplier use twice, once in the enchant damage, and again in the total fire damage?
* What exactly does the merc benefit from?
* Does +FM help when pre-buffing?

My character is Clvl 31, physical points: 13 Warmth, 14 Enchant, 1 FM. Items: +1 fire skills from Magefist used in gameplay, +2 Enchant +3 fire skills (leaf) staff in inventory used only to pre-buff.

The numbers:

1. Basic Weapon damage:8-66, including 1-5 lightning from charm, 1-6 fire from Magefist, leaving 6-51 physical damage from flail. Low minimum damage from weapon and items means that I can ignore it with minimum loss in accuracy. All calculations from this point on are only for minimum damage. I'm assuming max. damage has the same formula.

2. Enchant damage, no prebuff: 182-305. Listed Enchant damage is 127-175.
According to AS, level 15 Enchant has a damage of 46-?? Level 13 Warmth synergy (only physical points count) adds 117% damage to Enchant. 46*2.17 is still not 127, so Enchant indeed appears to get a "hidden" synergy bonus from FM. This bonus is 30% (1 actual physical point) not 37% (+1 from items)

3. Pre-buffing with leaf staff: 383-560 listed damage when leaf is still equipped. Listed Enchant min damage is 234-306. Listed damage for Enchant alone on AS is 74-??. 234 is 74*1.3*2.44, which means that, once again, +fire skills bonus to FM does not count towards enchant damage, and that, interestingly, +3 to Warmth on the staff (courtesy "leaf") does count. 234*1.58 is 370, so +3 fire skills affects the final modifier to *total* fire damage, as expected.

4. Pre-buffing with leaf staff, then switching items: 328-485 listed damage, min damage is 234*1.37 (FM back to 2), so enchant damage once cast stays that way.

5. Merc damage: Without enchant: 67-202, all physical. With level 15 Enchant (no pre-buff), he gets 194-377, that's +127 to min damage, same as in #3 above. The merc therefore gets the same enchant damage as the sorc, but the FM passive skill total fire damage modifier does not apply to him.

6. Bow damage: Same listed damage as melee weapon. However, with a melee weapon, I can kill Enslaved in one hit, but not with a bow, and high end of Enslaved's life is at the low end of listed damage. So it is quite possible that FM synergises with Enchant only with melee weapons.

Conclusions:
* FM is a hidden synergy to Enchant in melee mode. (Melee?) merc gets the bonus as well
* Physical points in Warmth, FM count towards synergy. +skills, +fire skill do not count. +warmth, +FM count as well (verified for +warmth, unverified for +FM)
* Enchant damage is calculated at cast time. Cast weapon can be swapped out after casting.
* FM (including +skills, +fire skill) multiplier applies to all fire damage, including enchant damage. So FM is applied twice: first time with physical points and +FM skills only) at cast time, and then again with phisical, +FM and +skills at the time damage is done.
* Merc gets the Enchant damage, including synergies, but not the passive FM bonus to total fire damage (as that is only a sorc skill)
* Bow damage not verified, but appears to be less than melee damage. Probably same damage on rogue merc.
* Loading up on +fire skills before casting Enchant affects only level of Enchant itself, not its synergies.
* Loading up on +Warmth, +Enchant and +Fire Mastery before casting Enchant is good. The best weapon with which to cast Enchant is a +3 Warmth/Enchant/FM "leaf" staff. Good luck! :smiley:

Finished off Act 3. No major problems still. Most was done at P8. KIlling speed is still quite good (though mainly done by the merc). Mephisto dropped rubbish but will move on and hope I get past Diablo :undecided:
