Bill killed Duriel

Bill took care of Duriel in very short time. Between the merc and the 3 wolves and a high level firestorm, there was no hope for the poor bug. This act was very poor for drops, except a Coral ring with 25 LR. Easy choice. On to the jungles of Kurast.

Scavruid Dooms Diablo

Scavruid killed Diablo with the help of his new Grizzley Bear. The act 4 skill was Dire Wolf, and after filling the OAK SAGE prerequisite, only two points could be put there. However, it was enough to allow the two Izual skill points to be assigned to the Grizzley. Act 5 will be dedicated to the Grizzley, so he will be a real terror for NM. Of course, Scavruid will need all the help he can get. Speaking of help, he changed from an Act 2 merc to a Cold Spell Iron Wolf at the end of Act 3. That was in anticipation of having the Grizzley for physical damage and tanking.

The souvenir choice was annoying. There was a crown and a full helm that may have been OK for the merc. There was a really lousy amulet that could have been saved to make a prismatic amulet. The other item was this pair of Greaves. Not terrible, but hardly end game material. The resist and MF may come in handy.

Wraith Shank rare Greaves: Def=15; +28 Max Stamina; Cold Resist +18%; 23% Better Chance of Getting Magic Items; 10% Faster Hit Recovery

The Act one souvenir (magic ring with 3% life steal per hit) was cubed with a perfect ruby and an exploding potion. It resulted in a garnet ring with +22 FR and +1 Energy

. Well, the good news is that Scavruid can retry that as many times as he wants as long as he can find more perfect rubies. But, before then, he will have to find a perfect topaz to cast his Coral Ring from the ring taken as the Act 2 souvenir.

Scavruid defeats Andariel in NM

HELLO. Is any one out there?? I guess EJB and I are the only active contestants. But, as long as there is one other soul interested in collecting souvenirs, the show will go on.

Scavruid is doing well with his "Not so gentle Bear". Andariel was the first demon that was able to kill the bear rather quickly. But of course, recasting is a lot easier than going back to town for the merc. Scavruid finally gave up on the merc. Fissure and the bear had their way with Andariel after about five minutes of battle.

The Souvenir was strategic. I used another of the low weighted items to save the high weighted items for Hell difficulty. Yes, Wolron is over confident, but why not, the fire Druid is playing fairly easily and can keep out of danger. It may happen! The Sigon Guard tower shield matches the Sigon Wrap plated belt and may even be used if Scavruid ever gets enough resistance in other equipment to put the Ancient's Pledge in the off hand.

Bill has dispatched with Mephisto. I dropped 3 points into Fissure in this act and one in Molten Boulder. No great finds, so the keeper was an amulet with 20% Fire resist to be turned into a prismatic later. My finds have been horrid, with no greens or golds to bother with. Here is hoping for something good sometime soon.

Of course, in the back of Scavruid's mind, he is sure that one day, he too can achieve what the great Niki achieved. He will be the scourge of Hell. The demons will melt before his Fissure and Firestorm spells. The Grizzley will smack sense into all of them, even Baal! Just 9 more acts...

Scavruid has defeated Duriel. The battle was quite long and the merc died once. Of course, the Grizzley was recast about 50 times. Three trips back to Lut Gholein were needed to recoup mana potions. Boring.

Wolron made a mistake, and when it became obvious, Scavruid was really ticked off. For some unknown reason, even though the plan was to put skill points in Molten Boulder, Wolron put the first two points in Oak Sage. Of course he had to continue down that path and that meant putting 6 points in Oak Sage as well as whatever is achieved in NM Act 4. It also limits the skill points that will be placed in Molten Boulder. OK, I admit that it is no big deal because both of those skills have very limited use/synergy.

Souvenir was a 4 socketed dimensional blade. Four nice jewels with resistance were put into it and this is what it looks like now:

Gemmed Dimensional Blade:
One-Hand Damage: 13 to 35; +6 Strength; Fire Resist +20%; Lightning Resist +28%; Cold Resist +21%; Poison Resist +30%; Adds 5-24 fire damage; Adds 1-10 lightning damage

Of course, this will never be used as a melee weapon, but it goes a long way toward maximizing resist in Hell (should he ever get there:undecided

. Scavruid has max resistance now without gloves, helm or armor. Speaking of gloves, one of the items that was considered for souvenir was Sigon's Gage gauntlets. That would have been the 3rd sigons item, but it really did not do much good for Scavruid.

Bill finally took down Diablo. It took a whole lot of trips back to town, and even more mana potions than I could believe, but he went down. Going into the Chaos Sanc. I was very worried about my fire and Lightning resists, and then the D2 gods smiled down on my lowly druid. A Felloak dropped and made my resists a nice shade of gold. I didn't do anything close to full clears, I just wanted to get to 30 by Diablo so only one level this act. My one earned point went to Oak Sage this act, and though against normal monsters it disappears, With Diablo, she seemed to stick around a little longer, about 30 seconds. My Izual points went to Grizzly, which tanked Diablo okay for one point, and to Volcano, which with also only one point took out Diablo. On to Baal.

Scavruid has killed Mephisto in NM on P8

Scavruid has killed Mephisto on P8. He is still able to win most battles, but he did have to park a set of four champion Heirophants. They simply healed each other quicker than the merc, the bear, and Scavruid could injure them. It was tempting to try to meet that challenge, but it would have taken a long time (hours?)

The souvenir choice was between several good items for the merc (but I want to wait and use them in Hell

); a Sigon's Shelter Gothic Plate Armor; and an Iratha's Coil Crown. The crown is chosen because of the +30 resist in Fire and Lightning. This is the second Sigon's item that Scavruid has refused to add to his Sigons belt and shield. Oh well.

Now on to NM Act 4 and an opportunity to add to Oak Sage (wow:undecided

. The Izual skill points will either be spent on the Grizzley or Fissure. Probably Fissure.

Scavruid has killed Diablo in NM on P7

Well, Scavruid defeated Diablo. It did take a while though (about 45 minutes). The technique was: Cast the grizzley next to Diablo (he lasted longer if he started in close); move Scavruid reasonably close so that his firestorm spell would reach Diablo; cast firestorm until the grizzley died and then quickly recast the grizzley. Of course, it did not always go that smoothly. Sometimes the grizzley died very quickly and then Scavruid might have to exit the area quickly before regrouping and moving in again for another attack. Oh, I did not mention the mercenary... But, he really does not need to be mentioned based on the short time that he actually faced Diablo.:grin:

Why firestorm? Well, fissure is actually not as good when attacking a single monster. Firestorm is better for crowds. After struggling through Act 4 NM on P7, it will be nice to begin going to lower P levels. Of course, P6 is not much better; and then comes HELL

The Izual points went to the Grizzley. It did help his damage and that was important for Diablo.

Souvenir is an Amulet of Luck with +29 Magic Find. That will be helpful (I hope) until Hell when it will become a prismatic amulet to get the resistances needed in Hell. Actually, depending upon what is found in Hell in the way of gloves or armor, the prismatic amulet may not be needed. If not, the MF will be good for the duration.

Act 5NM will provide more Volcano points. That should help fissure, and fissure needs a lot of help. Volcano was used a few times against fire immunes because it has some physical damage. It was not much use, but if it has another eight points that will improve it some.

Wolron has had four previous scavenger apprentices reach NM Act 5, and none of them reached Hell. I sure hope that changes with the fifth try!

Scavruid is now ready to go down into Nilathak's realm. He has freed Anya and will dutifully seek out the culprit who froze her in that ice block.

A couple interesting things happened to underscore the irony of this game.

First, while going through the Frozen River, Scavruid found a grand charm just as Wolron was called to eat lunch. Mrs. Wolron is a hard woman who would not likely put up with Wolron being late (though she seems to put up with Wolron spending on the average of 8 hours a day playing Diablo:thumbsup

, so he quickly glanced at the charm and then hit ESC to pause while he consumed his cheese sandwich. As he was walking to the kitchen, it hit him that the charm had been a +skills charm:shocked:, not only that, but the words "Druid Only" in parentheses were there too. Wolron has never found a + skills charm that he could actually use in a game. Oh, barbarian charms for a sorceress, or amazon charms for a paladin are nothing new, but a + skills charm that he could use is unheard of. All through lunch, Wolron beemed with the knowledge that Scavruid would be so much better off with that charm. Then doubt began to snuggle up in the back of Wolron's mind. What sort of charm was it??? It was not for Elemental skills, Wolron would have remembered that. Certainly it was for Summoning skills. Yes, Summoning skills for sure. The Grizzley would be so much more powerful, and the Oak Sage spirit would live so much longer. But, that doubt was no longer snuggling, it was parading back and forth in Wolron's mind. Could the charm have been for Shape Shifting, surely not; Scavruid does not shape shift, not even one point in that skill tree.

The cheese sandwich was woofed down and Wolron headed back to the den. He carefully, though his hands were shaking, clicked on "return to the game". He hit "i" on the keyboard. He clicked on his new charm. He began to

. Yes, a "Shape Shifting" + skills charm.

Well, at least Wolron learned something that might be useful. Before tucking that charm away in his ATMA charm file, he looked at it closely. The charm had an Item level of 61. So, those perfect gems that are beginning to mount up in Scavruid's ATMA file can be spent trying to get a really useful grand charm with + skills. All wolron has to do is find a grand charm with that Item level or higher and give it a try. Any predictions on what kind of luck I have with that???

The other interesting occurance was that he returned from freeing Anya and went to see what sort of grand prize she would have for him. He knew it would be a head gear of some sort, and since he had already souvenired Iratha's Coil Crown, he imagined it would be a really good one. Here is what he got:

You can do that??? geeezz i can hardly play more than 30 minutes of this game without some sort of rest as my mind goes crazy. Sometimes i even lose interest which could very likely lead to a possible deeds as i am not concentrating or simply dont care lol.

I wish i have the kind of time you have to play games. I can barely get 30 minutes of diablo a week the way i am going. Dam school is owning me.

Bill is in NM

Bill has fired his way through Act 5 with no problems. I had around 5 hours to play yesterday, and I still didn't get through on a full clear. This fire druid is safe, but extremely slow. I dedicated all points to volcano this act, so that skill is very established. I was able to find a 3os breastplate right outside of town, so for the first time I had decent MF throughout a whole act. This paid off in more normal sets and Uniques I could ever hope for. Even Pindle helped out the effort with dropping a Gnasher. Of course, Nothing of any use dropped, so the Souvenir is his Ancients Pledge large shield. The Cows yielded lots of gems, but nothing of intrest.
Baal took a long time, but between the grizzly, merc, and volcano he went down in time.

Don't wish your life away! At your age (I assume) your mind cannot take anything as bland as game playing for extended periods. The real world still holds major challenges and your imagination is filled with dreams of the unknown future that beckons you to pursue them. At my age, the challenges and dreams are centered around Diablo and grand children. But, that is what I worked for all those years as I met those challenges and pursued those dreams.

Finally, Wolron is in Hell

Well it took a long time, but Baal has died to Scavruid's persistent firestorm attack and the Grizzley's incessant pawing. This was not easy. It was not unlike my only attempt at Hell Baal (on P1 of course). The evil weeds were deadly and Baal was extremely strong. The only thing that made it possible was that the clones of Baal would go away if Scavruid ran off to a corner or returned to Harrogath for potions. But, that is over.

Feeling a combination of hubris and relief, Scavruid decided to go after the cows. Well, the red portal opened in the corner of the Cow King's corral. You know the spot, there are two dead rogues hanging on posts. Well, Scavuid had not cast his bear yet because he knows that the bear is a bit too eager at times like this. Unbelievably, no cows came after Scavruid. So, what should he do. Well, he decided to exit to the east, and sure enough, there was a stone wall just outside the corral a few feet. That was expected. Then Scavruid headed south hoping to scare up a small group of cows. Small was not to be found. There were probably about twelve of them. Grizzley was cast, fissure was cast repeatedly and one cow fell to the ground. The cows seemed intent on eating bear meat and Scavruid meat. Scavruid headed south... more cows, so Scavruid ran around those and... more cows. This happened several times until most of the screen was full of beef. Scavruid cast a portal and took his team back to the rogue camp. Well, with all that beef lured away from the red portal, why not try again. So, back to the red portal and the corral of the Cow King. This time Scavruid headed east and then north. Same result. Another portal was cast and the team again returned to the Rogue Camp. At this point, Wolron read his own rules and noted with relief that the Cow Level was optional.

So, the souvenir is a four socketed Ancient Armor. That will be useful, and it leaves the four mercenary items for Hell difficulty (along with gloves if a good set is found)
