Thanks for the kind words, but oh Butz...how silly you are...let me count the ways! Any of the following would have saved me...

  1. Use Cloak of Shadows
  2. Recast Shadow Master
  3. Use Dragon Flight to get back across to exit
  4. Click on the actual TP after opening it instead of the ground next to it

What did I do instead? Ran in a circle hoping to get everything away from my TP. :(

I'll put the final score up later.

devastated... Yes, I can understand that. But, you have far outdistanced all other scavengers and it is unlikely that anyone will get as far:thumbsup:.

I just checked and found that Niki was your first and only scavenger. If you liked the challenge, why not try another one.:evil:

Sir Scavenger has defeated Baal and had his Cow slaughter to celebrate. Nothing was very difficult. He was using a nice rare Barbed Club that had about 400 max damage. It was tempting to souvenir that item just so that it would not be so difficult to start out the next act. But, I didn't want to waste a chance for better weapons. It is bad enough that the shield was souvenired in Act 1, but at least that has made resistances a bit easier.

The souvenir is another Sigon's item. Sigon's Gage gauntlets dropped and for a minute I thought it was not such a good item, but it gave Sir Scavenger +30% attack speed. That really enhanced his Barbed Club. So, Sir Scavenger is wondering whether another Sigon item will drop. He would go for the plated belt, but the armor or shield would probably be passed up.

Act 1NM will be dedicated to Holy Shield. Another skill that I have very little experience with. Sir Scavenger's shield is going to be an important item as he tries to melee his way through NM. I hope Holy Shield will help.

I am really not used to playing a melee character. There was no big trouble in Act 1NM other than the smith that protects the Horadric Malus. He was very fast and he had Sir Scavenger running for his life with no perceptive red in his bubble and no potions left in his belt. Finally, he got away far enough that he could cast a portal. Whew!

Sir Scavenger did not have a very good weapon in Act 1 NM. He finally found a white Knout and used that for the Monastery and for Andariel. It only gave him about 200 maximum damage. That meant that there were no quick kills. His shield (with Holy Shield on) gives about 60% blocking. That is allowing him to take quite a few swings before his health gets low enough to force a Health potion to be taken.

Interestingly enough, he found three unique bows and used one of them quite a bit against Fire Enchanted bosses. That one was Wizendraw. The other two were dropped by Andariel, Hellcast and Riphook. Riphook is quite a bit better than Wizendraw and it would be tempting to souvenir it. But, Sir Scavenger is really intent on melee. He is hoping that there will be other bows to use occasionally, but he would trade them all for a really fine one handed club, axe or sword.

The actual souvenir decision came down to either the belt that Charsi embued or a magic amulet that would be cubed into a Prismatic amulet. The sharkskin belt looks like this:

Defense: 31; +9 to Life; +30 to Max Stamina; Cold Resist +18%; 56% Extra Gold from Monsters; 17% Faster Hit Recovery

So the final decision is the amulet. +16-20 resist all is going to be nice to have the rest of the way. I hope it is a long way.

Just watch out for FE guys in NM. The FE bug hasn't been fixed in NM, so you can easily be killed from full life by the "right" FE critter. I've lost a melee guy to a FE Radament, another to an FE council member. I think one of the guys I lost was even a BO'ed Barbarian!

I wish I knew what other mods make them insta-kill suicide bombers. I presume it's things like Spectral Hit, Extra-Strong, etc. Anyone?

I haven't played much melee lately, but I try to let my Merc get the final kill on any FE boss in NM, with me running for the hills.

Bill starts his journey

Bill got going along his path. The first Act took about 2 weeks to complete due to real life. But he did get to lvl 16.5 and firestorm is destroying anything in his path. After dropping Andy and getting a ruby for his troubles, Bill went to Act 2, hired a defensive merc, and took care of Atma's whining.
The souvenir was a decent imbue from Charsi, my first one that I can remember. A little MF, a little LR, and a little PR. It was that or keeping an amulet to craft/cube later.

Extra Strong is the one to definitely avoid. And anything that naturally has a ton of hit points: critters like Coldworm, Izzy, Ancients, etc.



 
Sir Scavenger has defeated NM Duriel

Sir Scavenger has defeated Duriel on P7. It required about five trips back to town for potions. One resurrection of Raldin was needed when he got too close to the bug. Sir Scavenger has +18% life per hit, so he was able to jab with his new weapon (Spineripper) for quite a while before gulping a potion, but it would take about +36% to allow him to leave his potions at home.

The souvenir was between a nice Sharkskin belt and the Spineripper. Taking the Spineripper will make starting out a lot easier and there is always room for another good weapon if one is found. I sure am going to miss that Belt though. Hopefully, Sir Scavenger will be able to find one in the Spider Forest.

Sir Scavenger has defeated NM Mephisto

Sir Scavenger has killed Mephisto on P8 (whew!) His method of handling fire enhanced bosses has changed somewhat. Prior method was to use a range weapon. However, he did not find a decent range weapon in Act 3. The new method is to smack the fire enhanced boss until he is close to dead and then back off and let the merc handle the rest. So far, that has worked fine. Of course, before doing this it is always best to kill everything else so the merc doesn't have to be smart enough to pick the right demon to concentrate on:rolleyes:.

There were numerous difficult areas. One was the Flayer Dungeon. It seemed like every flayer in the computer was in that dungeon and they all had their bosses. Between finding ways to kill crowds and finding ways to kill fire enhanced bosses, it was quite a challenge.

The next act will probably be Sir Scavenger's last hurrah. Diablo will probably be too much for him at P7.

The souvenir was between the merc's superior basinet and a ring with +6 to all resistances. Oh, there were other things too that were not considered. The best of the other was an Ancient Armor with four sockets that were filled with jewels that brough max damage up another 31 points. That gave "Spineripper" enough help to bring its max fromabout 900 to about 1200. But, Sir Scavenger thinks he can do better than that by just finding a better weapon and some armor that helps in other areas. Well, we shall see. In the end, the Basinet was kept for the merc. If Sir Scavenger gets to Hell Act 1, he may allow the merc to use the Charsi embue on that, unless there is something better available.

Now for Act 4NM, Sir Scavenger will be able to get some more Resist Lightning, if he lives long enough.

Good work, Wolron. If you have decent resists against Diablo, he shouldn't be too much trouble... just stay right up next to him, where his lightning hose can't hurt you! And bring lots of potions.
 
Sir Scavenger has defeated NM Diablo on P7

Thanks for the advice SB, it worked very well. I had 82 fire resist and 80 lightning resist. I went toe-to-toe and moved around him when he cast the lightning hose. The hose would damage Sir Scavenger if he just sat there, but it did not take much to keep out of the direct path of it. The merc sat back and let Sir Scavenger tank for him, so he did not need any resurrecting. It took about 6 trips back for potions, but that is because I kept a bunch of rejuvenation potions available even though I only used about four of them for the entire battle.

The souvenir was easy. Sir Scavenger started act 4 without a belt again. He did not find anything until he got into the city of the damned. There he picked up a rare light belt (2 tiers:sad2:). It was better than nothing. Then when he got to the first way point, he saved and exited and got the runes and perfect amethyst to upgrade it to a sharkskin belt (4 tiers). Of course, just a couple minutes of play time later, he found this (Grail item for Wolron):

Sir Scavenger Met his deeds screen

Sir Scavenger entered the Crystalline Passage and was greeted by two packs. One was a snow drifter pack that was heavy into stunning. The other was an Infidel pack with a boss who did not appear to be too dangerous. Unfortunately, the merc was killed rather quickly (He really could not afford to get near the opposition, but he was pinned against a wall and ravaged), and then the whole swarm came after Sir Scavenger. He tried to cast a portal because he had no way to get to the exit. Too late. Deeds.

Scavruid used Firestorm to finish of Andariel in about ten seconds. P1 is nice!:thumbsup:

The souvenir was the worst that I have had in any of the seven characters that I have played in this tournament. It was between a worthless amulet, a worthless ring and a rather worthless melee weapon. The worthless ring was chosen and will be transformed at some point into either a Garnet Ring or a Coral Ring. In the meantime, it gives +3% life per hit for a character who is not likely to be using his melee weapon very much.

Scavruid has destroyed Duriel with her firestorm spell. The battle was interesting, but short. When she jumped down into the tomb of Tal Rasha, she immediately cast a portal. She expected to set back, let the merc take his punishment and cast firestorm repeatedly. That was not in the cards. Duriel ignored the merc and attacked Scavruid relentlessly. Of course, Wolron immediately headed for the portal and went back to town. What now? How was Scavruid going to survive this??? Wolron was in a panic mode, but there was nothing to do but go back and keep trying. So, Scavruid repeated her prior actions; down into the tomb she went. The escape portal was cast and Duriel again bore down on poor Scavruid. But, this time she simply turned on Duriel and went after him with the firestorm spell. He only lasted about ten seconds!!! Normal difficulty and P2 are a nice combination (along with a really strong firestorm spell).

Scavruid did develop fissure to level 10, and it was used as a range weapon on occasions where Scavruid could not reach the monsters with firestorm. However, firestorm kept going up in power as the fissure synergy was acquired, so firestorm is still her most potent spell.

The souvenir was another boring selection. It was one of five possibilities: Arctic binding light belt; a real lousy rare heavy belt that Duriel dropped; a ring with +17 fire resist; an amulet with +18 lightning resist; an ethereal superior full helm that could be embued and upgraded later. Well, the ring with fire resistance could be useful until it is upgraded, so that is it.

Scavruid Has Killed Mephisto

Scavruid has begun to like that fissure skill. It takes a little getting used to. There is a delay after casting it and that can get you in trouble. The neat thing is that you can cast it in front of a charging crowd of monsters and watch them die as the rush into the flaming holes.:grin:

Mephisto died rather quickly at P3. No casualties. Well, except the wolves. They were recast regularly along with the ravens. The Eye of Ilitch amulet gave Scavruid an extra skill level in both those, so that helped increase the number in the party.

The souvenir was interesting for a change. There were three very good possibilities: Sigon's Wrap Plated Belt; Eye of Ilitch amulet; Hsarus's Iron Heel chain boots.

The amulet is kind of neat, but it would be better for a melee character (life steal and cold damage), but the added skill level was tempting. Hopefully an amulet with Druid skill points will be found later. The boots have fire resist and 20% faster run/walk. The belt has fire resist, added life and 4 tiers. The Sigon's Wrap wins!
