"Rare Pleasure" Tournament

Unfortunatly I have a very little time lately for D2, 5 times per week I go to play volleyball matches/trainings and tournays on sunday, so I will probably not have the time to try to make a guardian until end of month.

Sarah is in 4th Act NM, has the River of Flame Wp and doesn't want to face Diablo yet, because her resistances are low. She gambled 2 millions for jewelry, but nothing good gambled. :(
 
Ursula is now a Conqueror (my first)!

After her first miserable attempts to face the Ancients at level 60, she backed off and ran the Glacial Trail at /p8 until level 65. Then it was back to the summit, to see what she could see. Touching the altar their abilities were Amp Damage, Fire Enchanted, and – we don’t need to know the third! TP! After a visit to town, the Ancients spawned with one Physical Immune and one Lightning Enchanted. She fought gamely for a few minutes (unlike Waheed, who rolled over almost immediately), then decided maybe two more levels wouldn’t hurt.

At level 67, the first try at the altar gave us Spectral Hit, Extra Strong (on Madawc), and Stone Skin. Cream puffs! After about five to ten minutes and half a dozen full rejuv potions they stood back on their stands and saluted Ursula, now at level 68. Most of the potions went to Waheed, since I needed him as a distraction while I took out the first of the three.

In the interest of time she cleared the WSK at /p3, with no difficulty at all. Someone dropped this Glaive, which seemed useful for the lightning damage and PMH so I put it on switch:

In the Throne Room all of Baal’s minions were pushovers, thanks to level 12 shockwave. Lister was cursed with Amp Damage, and still went down in a hurry. The only slow point was actually Achmel The Cursed. Ursula’s poison resistance is only ~10, so his breath really stank. Plus Unravelers don’t move much, which meant we had to approach the throne and receive a Decrepify curse to meet him and his pals. Every time she backed off to shake off the curse & poison he healed up again. But wait! We’ve got a glaive for just such an occasion! After a trip to town for a belt full of antidote potions Achmel got one poke with the glaive and he was soon back in the dirt.

Baal was an anticlimax, requiring only a few trips to town to get rid of his clone and/or resurrect Waheed. As usual, nothing interesting dropped. By this time a thunderstorm was dropping lightning close to my house, so I saved & exited. I’m not losing this character to a lousy blackout! I’ll get the cows next time, even though real life also limits my D2 time to about three sessions a week.

Good luck vs D Mordalles. I have always found him the hardest boss of the game.

rarnonn killed diablo in a 1 on 1 fight. lucklily bone prison kept diablo intack, so i just had to beware of his lightning and fire. he dropped a unique war dart, the 1st one for my grail.

on to act 5, where rarnonn completed all the quests and killed baal the allowed two times. he found green heavy bracers somwhere along the line, which went to my stash.

rarnonn also killed the cow king, where it was just a corpse explotion frenzy.

rarnonn is now in act 1, hell, at lev 62 with fire, cold and lightning resists all in the red.

score: 131 (N:96; NM:96; Hell:1; lev 62)

still no rare amulet.

Wow! You'd think something would have dropped by now. Is it worth using your Hell craft on a caster amulet, or do you have other plans?

For the most part, act 4 didn´t pose much danger for Freddie, but a lot of work was needed to get through it.

The dangerous part were the Burning Souls. I needed to be ready for those lightning streams every time one of my units moved into new territory. Got hit by several streams a couple of times. One time, I was down to less than 1/3 life. Flinging Dim Vision in their direction was a good idea.

Hellforge gave me a Pul rune. That means I have the means to upgrade a rare armor piece to elite. I think I´ll go gamble some cool rare Godly armor for the merc, hopefully with +12 STR (or +2 and a socket) so Durga can equip the imbued weapon:

It has the exact same average damage as Durga´s crafted spear. Even with +30% IAS, it also has the same swinging speed for him. The bonus vs. undead and the lightning resist gives it a slight edge, but not so much that I´ll use the socketing reward to make Durga able to use it. Maybe. We´ll see.


Chaos Sanctuary was very very messy to get through. I think Durga died about 20 times, mostly to IM but also to being mobbed while Amped or Decrepified, being shot at while LRed, etc. Yikes, how he used my gold!

Lord De Seis´ minions are Extra Strong, helped by Fanaticism. That makes me able to deal with them without the merc. Iron Maiden + golem is enough to kill them, then CE did its work. The boss himself got pushed into a corner and killed by my mages. Serves him right...

I tried the 'slow as dirt' tactics against Diablo. Durga actually survived quite a while. Until D threw a Firestorm. Then it was down to old faithful IM + golem. :thumbsup: This doesn´t take as long as you might think, because of the large bonus damage act bosses has against minions. I had a cold mage surviving almost the whole fight, making it easier to react to Diablo´s moves. Also, the golem lasted longer than in NM, because in Hell, the Lightning Inferno doesn´t hit something that stands next to Diablo.

Diablo tried to jail Freddie twice. His first attempt failed because Freddie was on the move. Second try was succesful. Remembering crazy_bear´s advice, I cast a TP. It appeared outside the prison! I had to use another Teleport charge to get out (7 left now).

Since you have made no plans to gamble an amulet later, why haven´t you gambled one during NM? Or have all the gambling money been going to item slots with higher priority?

Ursula finished off the cow king with no problems, other than tedium. (The cow level has never been a favorite of mine.) Actually the king was lightning enchanted, so mostly she let Waheed carve him up with his 12% life leech polearm while she took care of all the minions before coming back to assist.

Now she's moving through Act 1 Hell, albeit slowly. The Den of Evil was cake, so the next stop is Blood Raven. (Running her down with a bear is a slow process, and it was too late to try yesterday.)

I have to mention a Griffon Headress that dropped yesterday. It had +1 to druid skills, +3 maul, +3 shockwave, and +3 heart of wolverine. Practically perfect for this build. But it was blue, not gold! :( I stared at it for a long time, then sighed and gave it to Charsi. You know she won't give back anything nearly as good when it comes time for the imbue quest. I'll probably be bitter about that for quite a while...

Oddly enough, this was my experience too, but when I clicked on the portal I was still able to pass through it. It seems it won't always work though. Good thing for those teleport charges!

CrossCheck has started actII, defeating radament and collecting all the outdoor WP before moving into the maggot lair or halls of the dead. She did clear the stony tomb without difficulty, but the superunique on lvl 2 (the name escapes me right now) was strong enough to kill the valk once! That surprised me. However, I am getting used to the merc going 'poof' with the stronger packs now.
I did try the viper temple, but got pushed back to the door by serpents. CrossCheck didn't get hit, but the valk couldn't hold her place, and there was no room to manoever. I didn't want to risk it, so she headed up the stairs and she will wait for another day to try again.

@Mordalles You should gamble an amulet. There aren't that many more affixes that you can get compared to what you might get now. Crosscheck has also had trouble finding rare amulets (found 1, from NM Andy), but she hasn't been successful gambling either...

I am sure he is. Not once have I seen the golem get pushed back by snakes, Prowling Dead or Gorebellies. Makes it easier for a necromancer to create stable fightning situations against these foes than it is for other classes.

:lol: TPs are weird. Even when they're obviously out of reach, occasionally you can still use them. It's like the game decided you deserved a break. Same thing for stairs. If you find yourself mobbed, hopeless, and separated from the stairwell by a row of monsters--- clicky the stairs. You just might pass through the monsters, though you never actually took a single step.

Assuming you gamble a suitable +Str armor, how about using the Pul in your merc weapon, for +75% demon damage? (assuming Freddie can go without an added socket in his own gear). Will an elite armor really make a big difference for Durga?

rarnonn cleared act 1, and killed andy. he then went on to act 2 where he killed radement, and cleared the desert area. he now has to go into the palace.

the maggot lair was especially difficult. but he made it through.

eh, im not saying i dont need an amulet. i gambled a few times in nm for an aumlet, but after being unsuccessful, i just decided ill play till one turns up.
i havent crafted anything yet, nor gambled for anything else.
i never gamble when i play, i just never get anything good.
 
Well, after several weeks with no D2, I finally got a chance to play. It took a while to get the hang of it again and get used to the hotkeys. It also took me a minute to remember I needed to summon minions before jumping into battle. :) I don't expect to get anywhere close to catching up before the end of the tourney, but with any luck I can get Jonathan out of normal. He has finished clearing the desert, and will start up on the Palace next. His score only went up by one, so I am going to hold off updating him in the table. :)

Victor and Razan set off into the Figid Highlands. Eldritch dropped a rare ghost spear with 40% IAS, but the other stats were garbage. Burning Archers were scattered everywhere but didn't threaten me often, since they move so little. I rescued the barbs and got ready for Abaddon. Very tough monster roll:
Blood Lords (physical immune), Stygian Dolls, and Horror Archers.

Fortunately I had a long clear path to start with. I was able to pick apart a pack of Blood Lords with a bullet-proof boss. This guy gave me fits. Unbreakable PI. He took forever to kill, longer than any Act Boss. I used my staff and cold bow with Lower Resist. Thank god Razan has 5-438 lightning damage on his polearm, or I'd have gone crazy! I had to CE his corpse, just for the heck of it!
Later, I took a p5 doll death burst, but it only took of about 1/3 my life.

The next bit of fun was the second lava area, Pit of Acheron. The monsters weren't so bad; mostly mages and unravellers. I had an NDE when I failed to notice those blackish spiked balls'o'death from a boss pack of unravellers. I went down to about a quarter life when I ran away. After healing, I greedily rushed into the fray to hit an EXP shrine. This put me in a tense position for a couple minutes, but it turned out all right. Maybe better than all right, when I noticed the boss unraveller's awesome drop. :surprise: First time I've ever seen this. Required level 87 ?! I wonder just how rare this weapon is? Rarer than Windforce?
Some of my characters end up with useless items I just can't bear to part with. This might be Victor's.

The Frozen River was gut-wrenching. Snow Beasts, Sirens, and Gloams Gloams Gloams. With evil urns packed full of... Gloams, that like to spawn right on me! Those crazy sirens made things extremely difficult with their fly-by behavior. Many times I took lightning bursts to less than half life. Once I was hit from three directions with such massive bursts, I seriously accepted I was dead. I retreated with near-zero visible life, so stunned that I wasted a second before hitting a rejuv. Absolute luck.

After tossing Anya's garbage gift to the ground with disgust (yep, I didn't even sell it back to her), I set about clearing the Halls of Anguish. Incredible monster roll, with leapers, temple guardians, and uncountable dense masses of melee flayers. It was a glorious CE rout! p5 drops provided elite items every 30 seconds. No major S/U finds, but I made at least a million gold. Most exciting drop was a rare thresher (until I saw its terrible stats) and a cruel rare lance with poison damage.

Halls of Pain was another CE-fest of blow dart flayers and blood maggots, but there were fewer bosses. Baby maggots are useless for drops, so I got robbed there. At least no danger for Victor.
Halls of Vaught opened into a stairtrap of PI Hell Temptresses and Cold Archers. No bosses, just normal monsters. I used a couple teleports to create a good angle against them, and it was all downhill after that. Nihlathak tagged me with a CE, using a corpse I was sure I'd just used myself. His cheap shot took of a good 2/3 life, so I was less bold against him after that.

My next session had me back in the Glacial Trail caves, with Moon Lords and a double dose of wimpy bone warriors. The evil urns were extra-evil, once spawning a boss pack of Moon Lords around Victor. I already had my TP set up, but was able to teleport instead. The Drifter Cavern gave me a safe entrance, and monsters that went down pretty easily. I got my favorite shrine there, a Monster Shrine, which spawned a wimpy goat boss.

After clearing the Frozen Tundra and hitting the waypoint, I finished with the Infernal Pit. Dammit, there were Oblivion Knights there which caused a dozen merc deaths. What a pain in the ass, it took a lot longer than I was hoping to clear out, as they cast their curses across the moats. But what can you do? All's well that ends well.

That was Creeping Feature. He's always Extra Strong + Cold Enchanted. Big-time merc killer. Plus he's got a mummy standard-issue poison attack. Poison is the valk's weakness, it disrupts her insane life regen for the duration of the poisoning.

I've been there. It sucks. :lol: I remember having to hold my valk in place (works great in doorways) by standing directly behind her. Or you can try casting your valk against a side wall so she gets boxed in. She'll probably get stun-locked, but you can pick off the snakes yourself. Good luck with your next entrance, that's always the worst part.

Some of my characters end up with useless items I just can't bear to part with. This might be Victor's.

The Frozen River was gut-wrenching. Snow Beasts, Sirens, and Gloams Gloams Gloams. With evil urns packed full of... Gloams, that like to spawn right on me! Those crazy sirens made things extremely difficult with their fly-by behavior. Many times I took lightning bursts to less than half life. Once I was hit from three directions with such massive bursts, I seriously accepted I was dead. I retreated with near-zero visible life, so stunned that I wasted a second before hitting a rejuv. Absolute luck.

Wow, that's some progress! Nice find too. I know what you mean about items that you can't bear to part with. I don't twink, but I have a large ATMA stash of items that I have because I just think they are cool.

Please remember that you must update the table with your progress upon the completion of Normal and Nightmare difficulties, and upon completion of each act in Hell difficulty, as per the tournament rules.

Sarah is in the Arreat plateu or what is the name of the Thresh' location.
She has obtained a PUL from Hellforge and found a FAL in Chaos sanctuary.
I made a several runs before going to face Diablo (I wanted to improve my resists), but I got bored soon and decided to try to kill him without any good find. The battle with the Conviction Venom Lord Seal boss was heart breaking, fortunatly I do a town portal before activating his seal allways. Then I run from the River of Flame WP and attack his pack from the other side. Diablo himself was easy, he concentrate his attacks on my Valk and was killed in 15 seconds (on P1). He dropped crap.
I updated my score, Insane Wayne's and Cattleya's scorte too. Insane Wayne is the leader now? Congrats!

wow, some good progress insane wayne! and nice description. and congrats on the good find.

well, rarnonn had an interesting day. his journey continued in the palace and into the arcane sanctuary. one thing about bone prison, is that it lures mosnters from far away. haha. this happened once in there, and lots of those flying ghost came from everywhere.

what happens when about 20 ghosts are on the same spot, fighting my fire golem? ill tell you what.

my bone spirit just wanders around in a loop, without actaully attacking a single ghost. haha. so, i have to cast my fire golem a bit towards me, so that the ghosts move, with the hope that one ghost moves earlier than the rest, isolating him, and then targeting him. then, when he dies, corspe explotion does the rest.

in the canyon of magi, bone prison again lured almost half of the map, and i had to cast uncountable number of bone prisons to keep them away from me. so, when everything was imprisoned, i went to the side of the map, and took them out from one side. hehe. lets just say there was a lot of exploding bodies on one spot. :lol:

the mummies in the tomb of tal rasha was magic immune, so i had to imprison them, and run past them, luckily i found duriels chamber very quickly.

in to act 3, and rarnonn made his way to lower kurast. lucklily he found no gloams in the great masrh when he went looking for the waypoint there.

score now: 169.

fire and cold resists are still both around -31 to -35, but lighting is now positive at 12%. :D

Sarah is conqueror now. After killing Ancients and Baal without problems, she killed a Cow King too. 1 NDE when facing the Extra strong Cow boss.
Imbued Ceremonial javelin (+2 java, but other stats crappy), crafted Safety amulet - my amulet was the worst of my equipment, crafted was with Cold resistance and MF - I equipped it.
Gambled slots - boots, merc body armor (gambled by misclick)

This looks like you have misunderstood a rule. Gambling an item doesn´t stop you from gambling more items of that type. The only restriction we have is that once we equip a gambled item in a slot, we may not equip another gambled item in that slot. So if you happen to gamble something you don´t want, just sell it.
