OT: Favourite games of all time? :)

Elite (BBC B Micro) - the first game that really gave me a superb buzz.
Haha, yeah, Elite was fun. I played it a lot on an Atari ST as a kid. I remember cranking Led Zeppelin's 'The Immigrant Song' and blowing away everything in sight. At one time, I was good enough to be naughty right outside the space stations, and be able to blow up all the Viper police ships that came after me. Hehe, good times. :)

Carrier Command, which was on my list, was (at least for the Atari ST) either made or distributed by the same company as Elite (Rainbird, if I remember right). It had a similar look in many respects (the whole simple polygon 3D thing), but featured more micromanagement, in procuring the proper supplies, etc for your carrier, and going after the right islands, and so on. I even managed to blow up the enemy carrier on a few occassions (pretty hard, as it was usually gone before you got there).

Still, DM/CSB has to be about my all-time favorite. I heartily recommend any fan of old games to search for 'Return to Chaos' and/or 'CSBWin', and start playing. When you have a choice of dungeons, play the original DM dungeon first (playing the CSB one means you'll die very fast, as it's intended for players who have played DM). Both engines should handle multiple dungeons though, including a plethora of fan-designed ones. When you come to the writing on the wall that says 'PREPARE TO MEET YOUR DOOM', you'd better get prepared. The worms and rock piles are especially nasty to first-time players.

So many good games and only five of them...

1. FF VII (And please don't look at my nick)
2. Starcraft (THE best RTS eva, followed by)
3. C&C RA (No comments about this - wins hands down)
4. Doom 2 (THE best FPP; this specific ambient and rockets piercing the air around you makes me cry...)
5. The game that we all like/love/play/hate (for devouring our free time ofc)

P.S. How could I forget about my beloved Contra? Unfortunately I used all places...

Catching up on this thread and I noticed Wing Commander! My God! Wing Commander was my first real PC game. And it holds an incredible amount of nostalgia for me. Probably the game that was most ahead of its time (a new catagory maybe? :) )

It had a real story, which was unheard of for the time in space simulators. You had a kill board, you had wing mates, and they all flew with a different style. You really felt you were on the ship, defending yourself day in and day out. intense and fun.

Too bad they BUTCHERED it in movie format.

Sigh.

Wow, some good games mentioned. My faves off top of my head:

1) the King's Quest series from Sierra---I played these so much as a kid and wasted a lot of my parent's money calling the hint lines...what fun. A special shout out also to Space Quest and Leisure Suit Larry's....

2) D2 LOD----of course.

3) Deer Hunter---I'd never kill one in real life but drinking some beer and shooting them on the screen sure is fun

4) Fallout/ Fallout 2----excellent

5) Q-Bert----my fave arcade game as a kid....love that long-nosed freak.

OMG how could I forget!?
Perhaps the l33test game ever! So extremely bloody and so fun to play. To bad about the bug... :azn:

I so love this game, I absoutely had to buy a different Joystick (the one I have is mor for Freespace2-like gaming) - you lknow, the one with two big buttons and a short stick !
I would play it on Amiga (the sound is so funny), but my friend runs a sound system on it...

The bug was sad on Amiga, but I think my Dosbox version is without, gotta check...

Where to begin?

The Diablos: D2 will always have a special place in my heart as the first game I ever bought (before I reformed my pirate ways)

The Half Lifes: HL1 was very eerie in the "what on earth is going on" kinda way. And HL2, due to the nature of it's technical achievement is so... immersing. Gorden doesn't speak, you never see him. HE'S YOU. (Do all MIT theoretical physicists have a proficiency with weapons?)

The Dooms: Doom defined the genre. Doom 2 showed that the levels could be the challenge some times. And doom 3 scared my pants off with the lighting.

System shock 2: Yeah, I was wigged. This game is good, go get it. you won't regret it..... until you never look at monkeys the same way again.

Deus Ex: Some people still insist that this is the best game of all time.

Serious Sams: It's called junk food for the brain. Some days, I just want victims, not enemys.

COD 2: If you haven't played it, get it.

Unreal tournaments: I still don't know why. But I'm drawn to them.

(Honestly, there are more FPS's I could put on the list, but I want to express the fact that I have multiple dimensions)

Civ4: I've loved all the civs, but everyone has a favourite.

Heroes 3: Yes. Just.... yes.

THe Mechwarriors: I can't pick between them. I'm sorry.

Dungeon Keepers: Probably the best God game.

Freedom force: I love games that don't take themselves too seriously.

THPS's: Yeah, I'm a skater punk who can't skate.

Joust: THE OSTRICH IS FLYING!!!! AHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!

ANd the one you probably wouldn't expect:

Rocket Jockey

I'm gonna stick just to PC games here because console...well...let's just say I go back to Intellivision/Atari 2600 alright....

1: D2: LOD. Still playing it and don't see a reason to stop in the forseeable future.

2: The Medal of Honor series-HUGE fam of WWII FPS and this is still my favorite.

3. Doom-Responsible for me being placed in detention several times for loading it onto school computers and playing rather than practicing my typing skills.

4. FF3: LIke I said I'm old school. I did play this primarily on Super NES but that's why God created emulators.

5. Hitman series: So difficult but I just can't quit. Even when I've been spotted for the thousandth time. Detail-oriented, organizationally driven murder...ya kewl:wink2:
