They do want you
It's hard finding your first job. The secret is to show them that you're keen and hard working. Don't just send your resume in to them, drop it in personally, ask to see the manager and tell him/ her a bit about yourself.
I know this because people send me their resume's all the time, they usually get file in my 'not urgent' in-box and are left to rot. If someone has the gumption to come in to see me I'm far more likely to give them some serious consideration.
Grogs' tips on job hunting at 16.....
1) Always look presentable. As you won't have a work history to fall back on the whole process is going to hinge on the employers impression of you -
first impressions count.
2) Don't be put off by failure or rejection. It's just a matter of time and all you need is that first break.
3) Be yourself. There is no point going into an interview and trying to be something that you're not - it'll show.
4) Ask if you can work there for free to gain some experience. I did this in my first job over a decade ago at a garden centre. I worked there for nothing for 2 weeks, at the end of it I had a steady part time job.
(This works particuarly well when you've just completed Uni too... it shows you're willing to put in some hard work and you're serious about a career)
5) DON"T BE PUT OFF BY REJECTION!!!!!! It sucks yes, but eventually you'll find a job. I applied for ~200 positions when I came back from overseas, and got 5 interviews out of it, and 1 job (this with a uni degree and 3 years working/ travelling behind me). Think of it as trying to find that stormlash, you don't expect to find it on your first Meph run do you?
