OT: Days of our Lives aka the Beacon's Billboard

I know what you mean Corax. Join me when I travel back to the wonderful world of Diablo 1. I'm just waiting for my Hellfire copy, then I'm back battling the dark narrow corridors of Diablo. Damn I'm looking forward to it :)

Hey all, hope you had a great weekend. Mine was chill, but over all it went by waaaay to fast. Am back at work now, but wensday is my last work day before a 20 day vacation. Am currently finishing up any work I have which isnt really much :xrollseye so basically I am doing nothing! So nice to relax for a change. Software deadlines have been met already and are waiting approval.

@grogs - NICE amulet grogs. How many re-rolls it take to do that?

20 day vacation!!!! Nice, I have exactly 0 days off over Christmas, Public Holidays withstanding..... Unfortunately it's our busiest time of year and I'm again having staffing issues......

63. 63 rals, pef. amythests, jewels, and around 3.465 million in gold for the amulets (I've set up a nice little college fund for Anya's kids). was worth it though :uhhuh:

@Rizzo - Glad to hear your trip went well..... And a very nice find

@all - Have a good day!

hey guys.

awesome drop rizzo

@grogs:
if it makes you feel better i get no time off during the xmas holidays, unemployment knows no end  ill get there eventually.

went for a drive around the place and we got a new weedeater, had lunch with mum at this place that has REAAAAAALLY nice sandwiches...mmm mm good. :xirish:

going for a ride this arvo ~18kms worth, which is a fair distance hauling your karate stuff(including sai's) when you havent done any exercise in ages.

I think that I have the slowest printer in the world!!!! It has taken 20 mins so far to print a 20 page document....

Now that is just STUPID!

Just had the funniest work experience. I've had a quote to do for a guy and it's been sitting on my desk for the last 4 weeks, he rings me up at 1pm today and tells me he needs it by 2pm.

that would've been fine if I'd even measured the job but I hadn't even seen the building :surprise: Here's my solution:

1) Ran out of the building, jumped in my car and speed to the job site (breaking countless road rules in the process).

2) Got to the site Parked and looked at the front elevation of the building, thought about other jobs I've priced that've been similar (settled on one that was close enough).

3) did 1 in reverse

4) dug out the old quote (for a different site), changed the name in the proposal, added 20% and some access, and Bobs your uncle, new quote.

The moral of the story is, don't leave things to the last minute!!!!!! I'll be very surprised if we win the job, then again, if we do I'll be extremely worried!

:xsnow:

Hellooo my brethren!
Look ye all upon this foul drow we have bound before you...

(memories of BG2 float in my head)

You dare attack me here? Do you even know whom you face? You will suffer! You will all suffer!

(Irenicus was so cool. What a voice talent!)

Hi all! :howdy:
Just in at work. The run to work was great. I can feel I'm getting in better shape. I'm able to run longer and faster now... Running to work and home everyday is really great! Try it, if you can. :)
Next week is Christmas day, and I'm still short of presents. I need to buy at least 5 more and have no idea when I'm gonna do it. Time is running out... when is it not doing that? :xgrin:

Have a nice day all!

Grogs: sorry you have no christmas holiday. That's sad. I have some days off where I can see my beautiful girlfriend and hang out with my family, and I appreciate that.

really? irenicus annoyed me after awhile. and his stupid vampire tramp, bodhi IIRC.

but then again Minsc & Boo > All. Nothing beats a talking minature giant space hamster and his crazy ranger accomplice. total pwnage.

anyway, rode to the next town over(18kms, thats fair enough for me) to go to karate, and i literally hammered the crap out of myself. The normal people who i generally have to tone down to train with( all of them adult men, not even old) i didnt, i made them rise to my level and then sensei set me to train with dave, whos spent 4-5 years training at the shaolin temple, so we smashed into each other, well dave smashed into me and i did my best. it was a hell of alot of fun and my back held up surprisingly well :xeek: so im confident

Agreed Minsc and Boo are very fun. Haha have you ever tryed clicking on Boo in Minsc's inventory? Such a funny cute little squeek :xsmile3:
I think the Irenicus and Bodhi gang were great. Very well written and excellent voice performance. I really hated them the first time I played through the game. I remember sitting in the chair and literally cursing them for stealing my soul. I guess I'm good at imagining things hehe.
A character I really hated in the story, both BG1 and 2 is Jaheira. Urgh! I can't stand her ugly voice, and I thought it cool that you could provoke her when her husband died by saying "Looks like the fool finally got himself killed" hehe. Sorry if I'm being too mean here :D

i cant stand Jaheira either. Khalid on the other hand was a champion, " i..i..i dont think we should do thh... that" hahaha gg khalid. " uh i appear to be badly hurt"
i wish jaheira got killed instead, seeing as i normally played a fighter/druid and occasionally a few other. then i got hooked on monks. they pwn at max lvl in the xpansion. cept for the damn dragons
:xeek:

The dragons are cool. The only thing weird is when you kill em using a club or something. Imagine hitting rock hard scales with a puny little wooden club on a 50 foot high dragon... yeah...
I like fighters, they are my usual favourite. I've tryed many different things actually. Like theives too... backstabbing really hurts! :xeek: Druids are very powerful too. They have awesome elemental attacks. Sorcerers are always nice.

So what's your fav Corax? Bg1 or 2? I liked bg1 alot because of the landscapes. Really cool that you could just go exploring and dig up the clues to some quests yourself. In bg2 you tripped over quests all the time, and wasn't encouraged to do some detective work yourself. However the overall story of no 2 was better imo.... Funny isn't it, that the evil guys always have the coolest voices?

my fav is BG1. although my neighbour borrowed them to burn them and scratched the crud out of them so they dont work anymore :xx: stupid neighbours
bg1 is better than no.2 because as you said you have to search out sidequests and the story is a riddle wrapped in an enigma until near the end where it all pans out, whereas in bg2 the storyline is pretty obvious straight from the start

I really enjoyed playing BG2. It was the first game I really played where there were side quests that you didn't have to do. I still remember picking up armors with high defense values because I figured that's how armor works in all games right? :xmad:

I get off the 16th :) In 2 days. Whoho.

Corax: Yea, I will be around alot more after thursday. Gotta go now. Cya.

I enjoyed BG2 more I think, largely cos I found it a lot more stable than BG1. I thought that the Paladin variant who could cast Dispel Magic (can't remember the name - doh!) was about the best, particularly with the holy avenger. For my game he did pretty much all the fighting on his own while all the others loitered in another room! I did feel that BG2 dragged on a bit though by the time I did ToB as well. Enjoyed it but it never really grabbed me like Fallout 1 & 2 did.

i think that was the inquisitor. either that or the cavalier. the other kit was the undead hunter, my fav paly. gg lvl drain immunity

edit: 2k posts. im a coming ash

Im definately all for the BG series although I think BG2 won IMHO because it also had a totally badass expansion. The battles in expansion really made it seem like the big confrontations were EPIC in proportion. Getting rushed by 50 shadows, battling 6 fire giants, etc.

The best/usual chars that I played were always dual classed. They end up being the most powerful by far. Kensai/Mage, Kensai/Thief (Assasination skill makes all hits a backstab, coupled with haste, dual weapon weilding) totally own, same with the Assasin/Fighter (flurry attack with x7 backstab damage), and Berserker/Cleric. Best stand alone class: Sorcerer. My level 31 sorc ownt the world and he could easily solo.

Who pissed me off the most....that damn IMOEN! "It hurts so much...the pain....it it feels like he made my bone into a dagger!" What kind of a line is that!?! She drives me nuts with her whining about being empty and what not all the time, even haunts me in the dreams. I hated the dream sequences.

As far as dispell magic I think thats the cavalier kit. Inquisitor casts true sight daily IIRC.

Speaking of, me and my wife are going to play through BG2 and expansion on my break off. :xgrin:

@Rizzo - glad you had fun in copenhagen. GG on the Vex, I think thats the rarest item for meph to drop IIRC.

@grogs - yup, saved all my PTO....thus the uber 1337 vacation! Gonna relax and take it as easy as possible. Time to get into Cristmas mode!

@kaysaar - hope you did well on your exams! Have a safe trip back home and enjoy your time with your lady.

@corax - since youve got all this free time what games you gonna start up? What other games are you into?

@teh crew - Ill be on the forums now and again. Hope your doing well. Cant wait to get off of work today to begin my vacation....I seriously needed one. :xrollseye

Inquisitor - that was definitely it. I only used one premade char rather than making a whole party - I would have liked to play it again with a designed party of pretty much all dual chars but by the time I finally waded my way through it I was just happy to be finished.

I must say the epic scope was probably quite good on retrospect and there was the odd difficult fight in it (getting the holy avenger at low level comes to mind - damn dragon was a pain in the ***).

Ronin, Meataxe, Corax: I don't know why I favour Baldurs Gate 1. I guess I feel that the sequel was a bit overpowered. Every encounter yielded a powerful mage, more powerful than any mages you met in the first chapter. The expansion to BG2; the Trone of Bhaal, was very exciting and yes the battles were indeed epic. However I felt that they too were way overpowered compared to the first game. I realize of course, that our hero has gained several levels, but I don't understand why everyone else around you also are high level characters. Every NPC in BG2: ToB was at least level 20. In BG1, even inside the city of Baldurs Gate, one of the largest cities in all of Fearun, not one was higher than level 7... perhaps with the exception of Elminster of course :)
More equalization from the first chapter to the second would've made the progress more understandable/believable in my opinion. But no doubt the games are excellent. I love them, and I can always go back to them. I've never tried the Fallout series though. Don't care much for futuristic games I suppose. I like warriors and swords better :p

About the battles in the first Baldurs Gate game, I remember them fondly. They were pretty much always the same. You encountered a pack of goblins, xwartz or perhaps some bandits. What I liked about it was that the higher your level was, the more powerful you felt. At level 2 the bandits were a pain! But when you returned later, you stumbled across a pack of 10 bandits who fell easily to your capable sword. That kind of progress is great I think, and exactly what BG2 lacked. Everytime your character got stronger, you had to fight more difficult foes. Of course you found stronger and stronger foes in BG1 too, but you could always ran into some poor unlucky fools and slay them. The same kind of fools who you were nearly dying to earlier on.
What I'm talking about is that I don't think your main hero felt as powerful as in the first game. He couldn't kill the simple enemies as easily, because they too rose in levels. In ToB it was even worse...

Damn I feel like playing the series again. I've only ever completed BG1 one time, completely through the game. The final battle was really tough!

The best thing about BG1 was in my mind the dreams. No doubt! How cool! And I still don't understand why they ruined them in the sequel.

Enough rambling. Off to bed! Sleep tight everyone.

Rizzo logging off...
